Garden VLOG | It’s NO mow March - Tending to my tomatoes, harvesting & cauliflower preservation
So amazing garden
I’m going to try onions AGAIN next season. I just haven’t had success, I’m starting to see I’ll have to start mine in January in order to have success. Your onions look great!
Hello Good morning thanks for excellent sharing You are doing very well You are doing very well keep it up
Thank you
Excellente vidéo À bientôt
Idk what you mean by that second part.
I noticed you removed the half and half to this recipe. What was the reason behind that? Do you just prefer it with all water instead like how the recipe is written now? I followed your original recipe with the half and half. It’s in the fridge fermenting overnight and I’ll bake it in the morning and let you know how it turns out!
I see the full recipe in the description still, I think you have to expand it to see the full recipe. I hope it turns out well for you! RECIPE: *DOUGH* 100g Starter 400g Bread Flour 100g AP Flour 100g Half and Half 200g Water 4 Tbsp melted butter (or avocado oil) 20g Sugar 1 Tbsp Cinnamon 10g Salt *FILLING* 1/2 C Brown Sugar 1/2 C Raisins Cinnamon to dust
@ yes I see the full recipe but one has half and half and one omits the have and half I was just wondering which recipe you personally had better luck with. As well as the flour ratios of AP to Bread flour are a little different. No problem of course! I’m just new to baking bread and wondering which recipe you currently follow. 😊
Your pretty
Thank you!
@Homesteading.with.Shelby do you have Facebook?
Good stuff 😊
Thank you!
I recommend checking out Dixondale farms for onions, I bet our (as in 1015 is a local onions) 1015 onions would be great there.😊
Are those short day? I’ll check it out. Thank you!
@Homesteading.with.Shelby yes they are short day onions and they are pretty sweet too.
Onions is something I have trouble with from seed. They germinate great, but I lose em somehow at transplant time
Interesting, I don’t have much experience. Hopefully some of mine hang on. I hope some of yours push through!
So goog!!
Thank you!
What fruit is that one tree out there, with the green fruits?
Papayas! 🙂
@@Homesteading.with.Shelby That's what I thought! So cool I was right!
@ChristinaMoore79 super easy to grow and delicious!
Looking good, zone 7a here and it may be end times for my peppers, going to harvest today, let the freeze nip them tonight and then overwinter them.
I hope they survive overwintering! It’s a great treat to have mature pepper plants ready to go in the spring. Good luck!
I noticed in one of your shots that there was a sprinkler? in the garden close to the tomatoes. You should never over head water tomatoes. It causes too many diseases. I use soaker hoses. Anyway, good luck. I live close to Yellowstone Park so we are in two different worlds. We do have an occasional grizzly come thru. I enjoy your content.
I can’t imagine living amongst grizzlies 😳 that’s wild lol. But we live amongst alligators and thing that’s normal lol 😅. I don’t see a lot of disease issues in the cooler less humid months on my tomatoes. I do plan on changing irrigation to soaker hoses at some point before the Spring garden. Thanks for watching!
@@benjohnson9011 I think that it's more about the mud splashing up onto the tomato that causes issues
That makes sense. I typically mulch heavily around them which might be why it’s not much of an issue.
Love your videos and great content. Yes, you can have perfect spacing with your carrots by using pelleted carrot seeds. Several seed companies sell pelleted carrot seeds, including Johnny's Seeds. Keep up the invaluable work you to do. Thanks.
Thanks for the tip and for watching!
Honey, That tree was on its way out anyway.. it did you a favor by falling down for you so you wouldn't have to pay to cut it down. Be thankful for your minimal loss. Some have lost lives!!!
Very thankful! I’m well aware some people have lost everything, including their lives. It’s awful! Thanks for watching
Wow that's a lot of tomatoes.
It was kind of crazy lol 😆
❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
We process between 5-7 bushels (250-350 lbs) at a time, we use a food grade bucket to transfer the cooked tomatoes and one to catch the sauce so it frees up the pots to get the next batch going. We only use the buckets for canning so they're always available
Thanks for the great tip! I’ll definitely look into to buying some for my next canning event. Great idea! And thanks for watching!
Great job!!!!
Thanks so much!
What an amazing tomato harvest! What variety of paste tomatoes did u grow? Congrats 🎉
Hi! I grew San Marzano, which typically perform very good for me. The Korean Long, which was just OK and I believe the Martinas Roma. I’d highly recommend the San Marzanos!! Thanks for watching!
That was a lot of tomatoes. But so worth it.
Indeed, it was a lot of work, but so happy to now be able to just enjoy the tomatoes!
@Homesteading.with.Shelby homemade is always best and you know what went into it. I don't have the stuff to can but I do freeze.
That’s just as good of a preservation method! Gotta do what you can to preserve the harvest. Thanks for watching!
@@Homesteading.with.Shelby your more than welcome.
THat's alot of tomatoes!!! I thaw mine the night before, that way the water comes out of the tomatoes. I run the tomatoes thru same mill as you. and the pulp is thick. I put it straight in my big electric roaster and cook till desired consistently. Then the canning process. I have a measure debubbler that I can get exactly a half inch from top. I still have one whole freezer full of tomatoes, so that is a job for later this week. It is fun and rewarding :) Isn't it? And you can say, I grew and made this :)
Sounds like you’ve got your work cut out for you, just like me. It’s hard work but SO rewarding! Thanks for watching!
The intro is cute. "Oh, hi" as if we all were just hanging out in your freezer until you came to rescue us.
Haha I was like, is this too cheesy?! lol
Your headspace is way off. You should measure until you get more experienced in eyeballing it. You have about 1.5 inches instead of .5, the headspace for different products is used to evacuate the air from the jars. your sauce is probably fine but in the future you might want to get the measuring tool
That’s probably true 😟 thank you for the tip!!!
@@Homesteading.with.Shelby it helps if you use the rim as your guide. The top ring is about 1/4 inch, the second ring is about 1/2 inch and the bottom ring is about an inch.
Great video, very informative and fun watching you take us through the steps.
Thanks for watching!
Very cool, that’s going to make alot of sauce!
Thank you!!
🌿🙂👍 great info video...
Thank you!
Your garden is absolutely stunning! 😍🙌💚
Thanks so much!!
Hello Good morning thanks for very nice sharing You are doing very well keep it up

@Homesteading.with.Shelby to be honest miss it's true i don't sometimes i watch homestead channel but i don't subscribe only you it's because some homestead channel is old lady or milf the owner i mean but you different of course, well let's continue keep calm stay safe and healthy and always be cool 😎👍✌
Looking fantastic 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching!
Visist our garden my friend😊 I like videos😊😊❤
Thanks for watching!
@Homesteading.with.Shelby ok my friend
Back in the spring, I had commented on your San Marzano tomatoes and the fact that I had no luck with them. You asked me what kind of paste tomatoes I was growing to which I said Super Sauce. You said let you know how the did, so here goes. They were very meaty, and the ones I got were absolutely perfect. However, each plant only produced 2 or 3 tomatoes. Not prolific at all. But I'll probably still plant more next spring because the few I got were so good, plus I have lots of space.
I’ll add those to my list for Spring as I’m curious how they might perform in my garden, also interested to see how they taste. Thanks for the update!!
Edit* looks like I already added those to my list from your last recommendation. I’ll update the notes!
@@Homesteading.with.Shelby I'm in North Alabama so as you well know, climate makes a difference. Maybe they'll perform better for you. They're HUGE for a paste. Big as a beefsteak. Just didn't make many per plant
They sound great. I’m interested to see how they turn out in the garden!
The Prego belly is cute❤. Beautiful garden. Love this video. I just found you. A garden is the best place on earth. I go in mine and just think wow I grew this from a itty bitty seed. Lol.
I agree, the garden is one of the calmest places to enjoy your time! Thanks for watching! Happy gardening 💚
You have a really big garden, I love harvesting vegetables and fruits from the garden, it helps me relieve stress and balance. Thanks for sharing these interesting photos.
Thanks for watching!
❤ love your video! Just to add the only pumpkin I have been able to grow here in Florida is Seminole give that a try.
I really need to grow those. I hear they are resistant to squash vine borers? I’ll give those a shot next time!
The Seminole pumpkins are fantastic . I got around 70 beautiful pumpkins from four plants . They’re still growing here on the last day of October. These things are great to eat and so much you can do with them . I started allowing my banana peppers to turn red and they are so sweet .
I’m growing Seminole pumpkins in central TX for the first time and they are performing far better than any other variety I planted with no SVB damage 😮
Love Love Love your garden... Im also in 9B. Im so glad to find your amazing channel. I have a small backyard with some sun shade issues but trying to just work with what I have. Thanks for these videos!
Aw thanks so much!! Best of luck navigating that. Shade can be hard to navigate but not impossible to grow many things still in!
Amazing garden!! Congratulations from Kentucky 👏🏻🦋🤗 My goodness look at your papaya plants!! Wow 😮😮😮
My papayas bring me so much joy. Thanks for watching!!
I have so many serranos I don't know what to do with them . I wan to dehydrate them and make powder but do not have a dehydrator
That’s a great idea! If you don’t have a dehydrator, you could use your oven set to the lowest temp instead. I’m not sure how long it would take. I’d probably check more frequently. But I’ve dried things in the oven many times!
“I frickin did it!” Good job, girl!! That’s my style lol
Thank you!! It’s always a great feeling overcoming self doubt!
It's a bad storm in 2024 that swept across state Florida
Agreed!!
Very happy you guys are ok. Sorry about your tree that's sad. At Shands Hospital in Gainesville (Fl) a giant oak had to come down and they made two beautiful benches and put them in the rear entrance near where the tree stood. I know it cost probably major bucks but it was so cool. At least we know our houses can stand a Cat 2 hurricane. Thank God you are all safe.❤🙏
Thanks so much for the well wishes! That would be amazing to make a piece of furniture out of it! Thanks for watching!
Glad that you are OK 👍
Thanks so muchn
Glad you are all okay no major damage besides the oak tree. Will make good firewood now😢
It certainly will! Thanks for the well wishes!
That oak was dying of old age anyway. It was potentially dangerous on a calm day. Put the word out, and there might be a woodworker that might buy it from you and remove it themselves.
You’re probably right. Thinking of it that way, makes the loss a little less sad. It’s better the tree fell during the storm vs, someone standing under it unknowingly! Thanks for watching!
I was also in trhe direct path of hurricane MilTon not hurricane miltOn. Sorry you sustained damage, we had a 40' pine break off about 15' from the top, lost a few oak limbs but no oak trees. It is very sad to see a big oak like that blown down but, every day there are hundreds trees of every species destroyed for development. Being a fifth generation Florida Cracker it breaks my heart that we are losing old Florida. Have some comfort in the fact that mother nature took it out rather that a developer, although global warming has a lot to do with the intensity of the hurricanes lately Find solace in the fact the you have the ability to replant.. Sorry for your loss.
Im glad you folks are safe. My sister and brother live Tampa and they're safe as well. Praise the lord
Thanks for the well wishes. So glad to hear your sister and brother are ok after the storm!
I'm thanking God you and your family are going good. You could turn that tree into a picnic table or benches to sit on and enjoy. I saw a video on Milton. Where we lived in st. Petersburg, the house is gone. The neighbors house had bad damage.
Thanks so much for the well wishes and suggestion. The damage over there is really awful.😞
Your survived 😊 the papaya tree will come back with avengance 😜
We propped both papaya trees back up and so far, they’re looking un phased! Thank goodness!
