Thank you. I’ve recently lost all (or almost all) of my seedlings to the storm that came through and was feeling discouraged to even go through the process of starting everything again. Other you tubers have said, nope it’s too late now to start seeds, which made me feel even more discouraged. Thank you so much for being so sweet & positive - the boost I needed😊. Excited to get out there & start again (Did I say Thank you enough)

Oh gosh! That’s awful I’m sorry to hear that. You definitely have time, I just planted these seeds 5 days ago at this point. I plan to plant more through the month of October. Best of luck with your fall garden!

Short , Intermediate and Long Day Onions
Yes onion seeds are the same, use quickly or ew seeds each year
Onions you can grow in trays or bucket with holes then transplant when bigger, not with carrots🇦🇺

That’s what I’ll do next season. Much easier to plant precisely that way. Thanks for the suggestion!

Good information. However, your onions will not start bulbing until late Feb. or early March, due to the day length. They will just grow tops the first few months. The bigger the tops, the bigger the bulb will probably be. Carrots are kind of the same way, usually will not produce until early spring. However, the carrots will be sweeter since they grow mostly in the cooler weather. You can use seed tap for things like carrots and lettuce. Hoss tools carries some.

Love your videos and great content. Yes, you can have perfect spacing with your carrots by using pelleted carrot seeds. Several seed companies sell pelleted carrot seeds, including Johnny's Seeds. Keep up the invaluable work you to do. Thanks.

There was a Florida market gardener, Jim Kovaleski, and he had a homemade system using pegboard for spacing carrots. I have bought the pegboard but haven't used it yet. This weekend!

Have you had luck with the shallots? I bought a ton of onion and shallot seeds before I knew about the long/short day varieties and most were long day and I’m zone 8. From what I googled, shallots are long day and I was too discouraged to try them. If you have some tips to getting them to grow please share!!!

So I’m planting a bunch of shallots now, I do realize they are long day. But I’m just giving it a shot anyways to see what happens, although I know short day is what I should grow. I’ll post updates on how it goes!

I have got a few beds in my veggie garden with perfect rows of onion. If you want to check it out, its on my channel. "September Garden Tour" The only thing I did was sprinkling them in the garden, waited about 6 weeks and used that seedlings to plant in the beds. Happy Gardening!!

How many onions seeds do you plant per area

    • @Homesteading.with.Shelby

I planted about 1 every 3 inches or so. I’ll thin out later. It says about an 18 inch separation by 3 inch…. I don’t really know what that means visually because I haven’t grown many onions. I’ll look into it and show the thinning in a later video
