Even though the new Standard 4MT Tanks by CW came as a surprise Kris really did well on them. Hopefully the same goes for the new 14XX’s and Small Prairies that have now been comissioned for him to do
Gotta say it's a fresh update over the old one we've had for a good few years now
Yes its a welcome upgrade as the DT version was really out of date
A magnificent locomotive, it's a pity that it can't be bought from Russia🙁
Russia ?
@@thesouthernlad30541 Yes🤙
Im living for all of wayside's DLC❤
so am i :)
So the little chamber on the running board is a resonating chamber to somewhat quieten the sound from the vacuum brake's ejector, as they can get very loud. It's fictional, so I nicked it off of a Dutch tram loco! The vacuum "flap" is also inspired by the design the Rotterdamse Tramweg Maatschappij used, a design much simpler than your traditional vacuum valve which I imagine would work well on a preservation mod. The flap essentially just opens the system to the atmosphere which overpowers the ejector and applies the brakes, when you let go of it again the flap gets sucked back onto the "pillar" and closes the circuit again, releasing the brakes. There is also a lamp iron on the back, if you have the cab back enabled, that is. The pump is also not a crosshead pump, it's an eccentric pump so it's got its own eccentric rod driving it rather than the crosshead, functionally the same though.
Ah an interesting bit of info :)
The only thing I'm not a fan of, is the choices for the green. The GWR one is just all the same shade and the BR one is as well, but is a weird shade as well. BMG/PLD has got the shades right (like on the Castle), different shades for GWR, post-war GWR for the first BR shade and then a more rich green for BR's own shade
This is just Train Sim in a nutshell, can't wait to see the B class review though
@@SteamLance yeah I know, I was hinting at me always derailing 😆
The one thing I notice on any GWR models (3D or real) is the whistle placement is always the Collett-style, with the high tone on the left side and the low tone on the right. When the 1361's were built it was the other way around, so the driver had access to the high tone first. This changed for some reason when Collett obviously introduced the whistle chain that could be operated from both sides, and a few older designs were swapped to this
Easily one of Kris’ best models
yeah i do agree but id say the SR paddle boxes and LBSCR Baltic's are one of the best.
Good to see you back and I'll be seeing Beachy Head myself next month when I go to Bluebell for the first time. As for sounds for the H2's hopefully sometime after she's out running they'll change the H2 sounds to Beachy Head's sounds
ah cool, might see you there! yeah the sounds are different to the real thing
Its like with the Patriots considering The Unknown Warrior is still being built they've likely used sounds off either a Jubilee or Royal Scot and Whistle sounds off a 3F or 4F
@@hywelroberts1653 Most likely, which is fair enough as there isn't any patriots in pres.
Loved the Intro XD
good XD
Glad to see you back 👍
im glad to be back :)
Do some more vids of this pulling wagons and ither rolling stock!
Hello, this is a bit of a longshot, 1st off though love the content! and I've subbed to you :) So I've installed quite a lot of stuff from wayside works, to the usual Rail works folder, each locomotive/rolling stock is showing up in Trainsim classic, but when I go to place them on the rails nothing happens, I've got each loco ticked as well so I'm not sure why non are working, is there something I'm missing ?
Hi, thanks for your comment :) did you already have a WW folder in the TS Assets folder if not make one in said folder and drag n drop all WW stuff into it I.E WW to WW folder and the same for anything in it the WW folder, drag them to the respective folder in the Assets folder if that doesnt work a belive Yarb the creator of WW has made a video on his channel called itsyarb.
@@thesouthernlad30541 cheers for the reply, So i made a WW folder in assets folder within the Rail Works folder (original was called the full name rather than "WW" i made a seperate folder called WW and dragged everything into it, unfortunately that didn't work :( but thanks for trying to help anyway, i shall check out Yarb now thanks for mentioning that! keep up the good content !
Hmm you wouldn't by chance have a link to the channel? i typed in Yarb and It'sYarb and both led to nothing :)
So i found the channel, and the vid on how to install and it still didn't work, I even deleted all the old installs for a fresh install and nothing :( I've mentioned it also on his "tutorial vid" so hopefully something crops up
@@bornkiller313 hiya sorry for the late reply ive just got back from Swanage diesel gala :) im sorry it couldn't, unfortunately i dont have any other ideas on how to help :(
I love that the car horn at the beginning censored you
tbh i didnt even swear XD
The exhaust definitely sounds like its from the Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet 'Blanche'
Just after WW1 the internal combustion engine became widly and cheaply available for the general public and industry. Several railroads around the globe experimented with petrol powered trains, Goods vans railway carriages and even some shunter locomotives got petrol engines. The worldwide financial crisis made lightweight economical trains a necessary need and buslike lightweight trains were developed The widly and cheaply available Ford model TT/ AA ( truck/lorry version of the T and A ) drivetrain and chassis is the base of alot of these often build in house rail busses. The petrol period of the railways is often forgotten by the public, because ist a very shorty span from the end of WW1 till the early 30's when the Diesel period started. But it marks an important period that led to the modern lightweight DMU/EMU's today.
It's not a Ford, it's a Shefflex, different manufacturer! The Selsey Tramway actually had quite an extensive fleet of locomotives, one of which (Ringing Rock) is represented in my Manning Wardle K Class pack. The other button in the cab is actually a decompression handle, which stops the motor.
A cavalcade of beautiful steam trams, all huddled together like a big fam. Painted in different coats of livery, belonging to different other railway companies in England. They are all just super astounding. Hmmm, I once dreamed of owning me a cool steam tram, but I wanted it to be used for private railroading services. It was painted in the sort of colors a Capricorn like me wanted to: a special Hershey's chocolate brown all over, trimmed with a lining of light shade of caramel around the cab windows and frame edges, the sideplates was color in commemorative navy blue, and lastly the cowcatchers on each end were a sheer, glossy metallic silver. I basically wanted my tram to look like how Toby looked in the _Railway Series,_ but my tram would fictionally be his exact twin brother, only built 3 months younger than Toby. And the name my tram engine I always wanted to dub it for was "Sireacio (pronounced 'SUR-REE-SEE-OH')" plastered on two nameplates to place on both sides of it.
Nicely done, TSL. This is a truly superb bit of kit for us dockyard and shunting enthusiasts. As you've suggested, I have built a tiny dockyard route specifically for WW's industrial locos. Be sure to get all the Elias D stock while you're at it. The AB16" is equally terrific. Many thanks.
The AB 16 is on my list of upcoming addons to review and I have already been playing with 😁
There's some nice footage of Seaham harbour out there, showing why the loco needed to be kept in service until the 1970s!
nice, i didnt realized it was real until i actually did some research XD
Can you educate us on installing wayside works products, please?
i can yeah at some point
Glad you love it! It's not actually got the same engine as the Finch, it's completely new based on the actual George Chaplin VB designs. Loved your reaction to the water pump as well, although you did prime it immediately lol. The chaldrons you pulled come with Seaham 18, btw, not this. The low down cab view is so you can actually get to the firebox door, as you can't see it from the regular views.
Ah i thought they came with No.18 XD, yeah i didnt relies how effective the pump was XD but thanks again for another fantastic loco for TS :)
In terms of VW standards, the model is okay, there are lots of features missing that itehr VW locos have that this one doesn’t, example: opening roof hatches and moving reverser. Otherwise from those It’s a solid model. Not their best work (their best work is the WD 2-8-0 and 2-10-0s) but decent
I completely agree 😁
I love this little goober engine :)
It's fantastic isn't it 😁
First things first, thank you once again for reviewing one of my locos, it's always good fun to see one of your vids show up on my feed. Straight out the gate: I forgot to include the manual in the first version. Redownload it for the manual. It explains (among other things) how the RGB shader works and how to do the other variations. Next thing: Noelle is pronounced No-elle, not Noel! xD And after this one I'll get out of your hair: the current Cockatiel, lore-wise, is basically overwriting the old one. The old one was a generally kinda poo design with not much thought put in, whereas I've now got a more established visual style for Birchwood's locomotives. I love your point about having a laugh while devving, because that's one of the things I value most in doing this, to have fun! Some people, not naming names, take this hobby way too seriously and really ought to take it down a couple pegs.
Sorry Yarb XD but thank you again for teaching how to speak XD i go into full dyslexic mode sometimes XD and i thought it was the case with this version being an "upgrade" but both locos at still really good and yes i do agree some people do take all this stuff to seriously im just glad theres devs like yourself thats doing the serious stuff and the wacky stuff too, keep it up its brilliant :)
This is an excellent loco. You need the manual to explain the scripting features. Nice review!
thank you :) and i will have a look into it.
I don't think the colour is incorrect at 8:25 as I believe there was a lot of variation in br blue, I may well be wrong though :) Excellent video as always
thank you and yeah there could be :)
Great review and drive, really enjoyed this one. Also, the new intro is fantastic, well done. Cheers and keep up the great work - Alex.
Thank you Alex :) ive got lots more coming out over the next few weeks!
@@thesouthernlad30541 Excellent, looking forward to those. Might we see the new 43XX’s featured perhaps?
@@greatwesternproductions2857 You may ;) im currently sorting out the back-clog of WW stuff i have im edit then ill be looking into the 43XX
👏 'promosm'
Caledonia Works’ models are very uh, mixed imo They charge 19 pounds which is about 25 US dollars for me plus tax for about 4-6 liveries of a locomotive. The exterior of their locos are an A for sure, not Bossman Games level, but they looks great, although some detail are quite fake-ish looking The cab is a B- for me. It looks fine, but the lack of interactivity compared to other 3rd party model makers like VW and BMG is quite embarrassing, like you can’t even move the water gauges or drain them. The cab lamp I hate so much because it cuts my fps by 15-30 and the fact sometimes windows can’t open is just not acceptable in this time and age. The physics is a C of their overall catalog. Their models pre-2022 or so don’t even have a simulated steam chest. The water injectors are way to simple for my liking. The overall driving of the locos is much better and the tractive effort and speed are quite good. The sound is a B, the locos with SSS sound are decent but not by any means their best work. Models without their sounds aren’t bad, but not impressive. Sometimes they even reuse sounds like whistles from other models. Effects like steam and cocks are just ok so they get a B. Some models looks better than others but some are just disappointing. The lbscr e4 doesn’t even have steam coming from the C.Cs. when they are turned on. Sometimes the exhaust will absolutely yeet the used steam into the air. Overall, they’re B tier compared to VW and BMG and even older models from Just Trains. I still buy from them, but they aren’t the best by any means
Yeah i get what you mean, they can be hit n miss and i do agree with your points 100% and have noticed the same !
Is that in Blackpool?
No I don't know where the route is set, there wasn't much in terms of background
Very nice loco, nice review. Are you able to find out which route this is? i quite like how quaint it is. thank you.
Hi and thanks, I believe its called tramway from UKTS not much of a background to it, it's also unfinished in some places
@@thesouthernlad30541 Thank you. Looks like UK trainsim no longer exists though :(
@@rjc0234 yeah unfortunately i just checked (3/12/23) and UKTS is no longer with us :(
It's adorable
I know right!
its always really nice to see some high quality freeware content for Railworks
I know right !
Yeah Mawddwy is difficult. 'Maw' is like "Mao", the 'dd' part is basically like a 'th' sound and the 'y' in "wy" sounds similar to how the 'i' is pronounced in "win". Welsh is hard, even for me who's learnt it in school and grown up in Wales
See I was never taught Welsh 😆😅 I'd like to learn it tho
@@thesouthernlad30541 You find out that there are a lot of words that either didn't get translated, or just had an extra letter added. Like "Lift" is just "Lifft" 😂
@@SteamLance 🤣
These are terrific locos. The included coaching stock, too. I'm using Menai in free-lanced preservation scenarios is it has vac braking, which I think is required for any kind of passenger work. The weathered black is especially well done, as much as any VW, CW, DT or other "major" builders. I hope we'll get to see some of the other locos posted on the Discord server, as they also seem extremely well done. Many thanks.
They are fantastic addons and unfortunately most of the ones we see on Discord are I think a "between" mates sort of deal or payware
Thanks as always for reviewing! Couple points to clear some things up: - Menai is pronounced "Men-aye", Aldwyth is pronounced "Alld-with", and Mawddwy is pronounced "Maoo-thee" - Dexterity's livery is not based on any particular livery, I just wanted to challenge myself to make something as lined out as possible. - The 2-4-0 condition was something that has been recorded to happen on several light railways (not just on Wardles). In order to cope with bad trackwork and provide a more stable ride, the front siderod was taken off to minimize mechanical jumping around the front of the loco, where it's particularly light. - The injector works on steam as usual, but the crosshead pump only starts to work over about 8-11mph, as only then enough vacuum is created to suck the water into the system. (I think the steam valve not being draggable is an oversight? But it would be a lot of tedious work to go back and fix it now...)
Hi yeah, it's brilliant a much better upgrade from your last version of the K, ah I wondered why there was some rods missing, thanks for telling me 😁 all in all another fantastic loco for anyone's collection 😁 I do enjoy both reviewing and driving your hard work, as always can't wait to see what else your going to make 😁
Hiya, where did you get the route from?
If I'm honest I can't remember
@@thesouthernlad30541 No worries 👍 Have a great day
@Sir_Rheilffordd you too sorry I couldn't be of any help, all I know is the route is call Tramway and I think it must have come from UKTS, hope that helps
Thanks for reviewing this little bibby! To clear some things up, I'm Dutch, the coaches are tram coaches from the Nederlandse Tramweg Maatschappij (Dutch Tramway Company) and the valve gear's Allan Straight Link! I'm not entirely sure if you have Automatic Coupling turned on your settings, as that might have caused that... incident. And worry not, I will not start charging for my addons, as I believe this game's continued existence depends on freeware, same as MSTS! (by the way, around halfway through the video the audio goes out of sync)
Thats ok im always happy to review your addons :) I think this proves i need to do my research, I dont auto coupling on i always do it manually, Oh bugger i thought i sorted that out :( its nice to know your DLC is staying as Freeware and it fantastic to see how far youve come in terms of textures, Models ETC, keep up the fantastic work :)
Excellent film, very enjoyable
Thank you :)
An excellent run, nicely handled. Lovely job from Caledonia Works too, really detailed. Hope it won’t be too long before we have the real thing in steam again. Cheers and keep up the great work - Alex.
Hi and thank you, I have heard talks about it going into the workshop after the Atlantic has come out, so keep your eyes peeled 🙂
Great for my German Feldbahn! and it´s freeware...
Do you have to get the passenger cars needed for the quick drive scenarios for these or those are optional?
I think you can do both, as there is options for light engines and what ever stock it says in the Manual
@@thesouthernlad30541 Okay! Cause I'm planning to get the Light Pacifics in the future, but wasn't sure if I had to get the coaches required or not. Thank you!
@@ryanthesteamman that's ok 😁
Nice review! As always
thank you comments like yours help motivate me to make more :)
Its not too bad tbf, although suffers a little again with that whole exhaust-wheel sync (as most CW engines do...). Also, someone who knows a lot about the Adams radials said that they gained twin slide bars, and that the East Kent Livery is basically just the Drummond livery, not the one depicted on models.
TBH its better then the DT version and yeah i did pick up on the sound but again TBF for an ONLY survivor of its class it extremely hard to find to find sounds from the real thing since 488 was last in steam back in the 70's and 80's for this occasion ill let that one slide 😅
Mint video mate
thank you :)
The 1 in 77 gradient of the Incombe Bank is a pain. The top is literally the level crossing coming into Thenhill. Best thing is to set the reverser and regulator and let the engine storm the bank with all that it has. Set the fireman and let it go. Another trick as well-make sure it's a straight shot through. Any divergence or crossovers forcing you to slow will stick you on that hill (Personal experience there where I managed to stick a 782 with eight wagons after crossing to the lefthand platform at Inchcombe.) Another thing is...use the momentum build up. The wagons will hang back and drag you to a stand. If you have speed up first, then boom, you can go. The only time I recommend slowing yourself down is when your crossing onto the branch from the main line.
oh cheers, thanks for advice :)
