I still play Genesis ❤
One of the most underrated channels on youtube right here
That is very kind of you to say. Thank you!
Completely understandable, & the camera perspective complaint is legitimately just irrefutable lol. Couldn't disagree more about the controls though, they're already a big step up from Galaxy (having the stiffest controls of any 3D Mario) and with the Switch port's speed increase and dive it's just a blast to blitz through the game's levels. Also, I will not stand for this Sunshine slander!! Short of Odyssey it's still the best Mario has ever felt to control in 3D imo ok civil discussion time over, bring out the pitchforks!
The switch version controls so much better. It’s a vast improvement. The Wii U version just felt off to me.
Totally agree with the camera issues! Some of those later levels, I simply waited for the invincibility suit and cheesed my way through. Great videos overall, but one small critique: it sounds like you're saying "counsel" when you mean "console". It confused me a few times before I picked up on what was happening. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! And I’ve gotten that comment before about my pronunciation. Took me a while to hear it.
i am glad to know i am not the only person to feel mixed about this game. thank you.
I love different opinions! It's what excels us from echo chambers into deep thinking!
Best use of colours in any Game Boy title, those blues and greens are beautiful. Great games and great video! Hope someday Nintendo or Capcom remakes these games (would be nice to be in the style of A link between worlds).
Nice video 👍🏼. I WONDER if you will Cover Mario Run and Mario Bros Wonder?
I should do wonder. Never even thought about Run. I did enjoy it!
@@SuperMetaFun actually do wonder. It’s really good. Thanks
And now we're complaining that we don't have this game in the Switch
Didn’t watch your vid, but nice thumbnail! Just wanted to say that :)
Thank you. Just curious, what about it that you liked?
@@SuperMetaFun I think it was just the white border faded into the actual RUclips interface really well. Keep doing that, you may have found a new way to game RUclips!
Okay, i couldn't figure it out in the original and I can't figure it out here. Your roomate's buddy said "This is like a cartoon ........?" What? And why was it offensive or funny?
Cartoon Darfur. It’s a region in the Sudan that was marred by chaos and war from 2003 to 2020.
@@SuperMetaFun Ah hah!
I didnt play these games in what like 15 years. Oof 😢
Sometimes I do lament how no Zelda title will ever be as unique as strange as Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask, since Yoashiaki Koizumi no longer works on the franchise.
Honestly, given the companies' behavior during the 80s and 90s, I think it would be more apropos to say the industry could support more than one _cock_ in the henhouse.
you say the word console weird
I do say it weird.
It's funny how you call Link's Awakening a "Metroidvania" even though Zelda did the concept of unlocking the overworld with new abilities before both of them and the programmer of Symphony of the Night was inspired by A Link to the Past.
Oh yeah. I get in to that a bit with my Link’s Awakening video. How Link's Awakening Changed Zelda Games ruclips.net/video/m6Mbre8k3kc/видео.html
I know I’m biased from growing up with it, but wind waker has always been my favorite Zelda game
I think everyone’s favorite Zelda game is the Zelda game they grew up playing. For me that was Ocarina of Time. (Though I was around for link to the past I did t begin to get in to games until ocarina.)
love the emperors new groove reference :) instant like after that
I couldn’t resist.
what happned?
What do you mean? What happened to what?
@@SuperMetaFun Wind Waker.
You’re still going to need to be more specific. What do you mean what happened? What happened to what?
Playing the HD version for the first time, and Wind Waker really is the polar opposite of Twilight Princess, and not just in art direction. While I believe Twilight Princess has better dungeons and combat, I think Wind Waker's story and side quests are more engaging.
Twilight Princess has a more engaging story for me but you gotta really pick up what the game is saying on society and power, and how it displays it through its characters and environments
Awesome video, I really enjoyed this one! Going to have to go watch your other ones now!
Thank you!
I play WWHD on Cemu and it plays great on my decent little setup w/ 8GB GPU ram, and I’d play it on my switch if N would port it over, it it plays fantastic and you can even get all of the QoL gyro aim perks and get very low latency vs playing on a real switch. Oh, fantastic video obviously you are a talented MF and you’re really going for it with a channel like this, well-written, interesting, well-edited and engaging storytelling. All of the great retrospectives tell the story of the game and their lives intersecting
I really appreciate the compliment! I wanted to approach my retrospective from a different angle than just the story and my experience. But view the game in the context it was made and what it intended it do.
There are some campy moments, but I wouldn't generalize the series that way at all.
There’s a lot of campy moments. Not just the silly. It can also be very melodramatic.
@SuperMetaFun subjective
wind waker is the only 3d zelda that feels like the 2d games to me
Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Wind Waker have the best stories in the entire series.
You can’t miss Twilight Princess in that list, in my personal opinion, it’s some of the best fiction of all time. Midna’s character development, tying into the game’s theme of power and how it can be abused. How it motivates Midna, how it motivates Zant and Ganondorf, and even how it motivates Link, and by extension, you, the player. The game tackles systemic oppression and economic disparity to display the outcomes of abusing power through metaphor and tying it into the narrative, like the rural area Ordon Village being in shambles when tragedy strikes Hyrule and Castle Town being mildly inconvenienced. It’s genuinely so well thought out and I consider it a masterpiece.
Honestly, I like the aesthetic of Wind Waker fine, I just don't really like most of the faces. And Link's a little too... floppy?
Floppy? Explain…
@@SuperMetaFun Just like... all the characters are like... Hell... Kinda like Rubber Hose cartoons, except not as dynamic looking, I guess?
I wish they'd remake Zelda 1 or 2 in this artstyle. Just a deep thought of mine..
I really would love to see a completely reimagined remade Zelda 2. Id like to see that sword combat explored and fined tuned.
@@SuperMetaFun I, for one, would like them to make an honest-to-christ Metroidvania style Zelda game. I think it'd work great, a "2.5D" metroidvania with all the Zelda fixin's.
@@SuperMetaFun I love that idea! It's such a unique and underappreciated game
While I love the wind waker art style, I disagree with remaking Zelda 1 and Zelda II in that style. Id rather they do something that utilizes the official art fir thwir games especially for Zelda II. I'd love to see Hollow Knight levels of animation but with the Zelda II artstyle.
Are u gonna make one on twilight princess edit: Nevermind lmaooo
That is the plan. I’ve been going in release order going back and forth with Metroid games as they share a lot of similarities.
You: "Zelda is CAMP!" Me: Helloooo LGBT community and happy pride! No but seriously you verbalized an aspect of Zelda that I've always loved. It's campiness! Happy Pride!
As I’ve been going through the series with a “critical” eye (that is to see what it’s all about not to just be harsh on it) I’ve come to realize just how goofy and silly these games get. It’s very charming.
Excellent, bro. You totally get it. I remember the time between first announcement and original release. I couldn't believe the foolish things I heard from so-called fans, who never had a clue. I felt sorry for Nintendo, having to deal with such abject stupidity. I'm old enough to remember playing the original on the NES. I was excited as ever to play Wind Waker on the GameCube in progressive scan and Dolby Digital II. I learned about and invested in both of these technologies because Nintendo was behind them. I was in awe when I first played. It was a living cartoon.
I was 15 when it was announced so I was skeptical but not hostile. It was something so starkly different to what everyone else was releasing and making. It was so Nintendo and it played great. I enjoyed it back then and still enjoy it now.
I was in high school. I stayed home from school and fucking adore the game. It was and is an incredible release. Shame it isn't available on Switch.
I just want a switch version of the wii u remaster but nintendo hates their fans too much.
Yeah me too. But I get why it hasn’t happened yet. I think they have a lot of Zelda projects in the works and they have to strike a balance of releasing their new stuff with the remasters without creating franchise fatigue and cannibalizing sales.
Don't worry it's not if but when. I think it will be a cross gen games between the switch 1 and 2 👍
It'll be a 4k remaster on Switch 2 I reckon
I still really don't like Windwaker. I can't help but wonder where the Zelda franchise would be without Windwaker. Windwaker is where my love of for the franchise began to drop off. Aside from Twilight Princess, I don't like where Nintendo goes with the Zelda series after Majoras Mask.
In my next video on the Minish cap I plan on exploring that. Fujibayashi directed that one at capcom and was eventually hired by Nintendo. He would direct Skyward Sword, Breath of the wild, and Tears of the Kingdom. In Minish cap you can see a lot of skyward sword and the beginnings of that new Zelda direction. I get your point. I liked wind waker. Twilight princess was Ocarina again with a wolf but I really enjoyed it. While I love BofW and TofK I miss the original Zelda format.
When this game was announced, I heard the internet cries, but I didn't care as a Zelda fan. I knew that Nintendo was going in this direction for some specific reason when doing it. When I saw the facial expressions, the hiding in the barrels, and things like that, I knew it was a great choice and I enjoyed the game... Although I didn't like the sea travel, but they helped on the HD remake to fix that issue. Now I'm just waiting for them to port the HD remake to the Switch.
It is a great Zelda game. I personally have kinda given up hope for the switch port.
@@SuperMetaFun Maybe we'll get a Legend of Zelda 3D All Stars on Switch 2/whatever they call it. Then we can have, like, Ocarina, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword all together.
Keep up the good work; will you be making a video on the recent Direct?
Thank you! At the moment I have no plans to. If I would it would be a while since I’m leaving for vacay with the family today.
Great video. But Mario is not obese.
I love this video & quality! I was shocked at how small your channel is! Sunshine is my favourite Mario game but I totally get the frustration and there are plenty of odd decisions. I think your closing point about just hopping in and playing is the best way to go at this game.
Thank you! Despite its shortcomings it still is a fun game to play. Maybe not to complete 100% but it moves feels and plays well….except for yoshi. Still stand by the fact that they botched yoshi in this game.
@@SuperMetaFun I'd totally agree on the Yoshi front, he's probably my least favourite part of the game.
Sunshine is based dood, what you on about being a dumpster fire?
The padding. Terribly camera controls. Faulty hit detection.
@@SuperMetaFun Fair, Still Grand old time in my opinion.
Still my favorite 3D Mario game!
There is a lot there to still enjoy despite its drawbacks.
Love this pair. Have always dreamed of a prequel or sequel
The closest we get is Minish cap since that’s made by the same team at Capcom.
@@SuperMetaFun oh but I want to see more Labrynna& Holodrum!
3:14 "How do I hold this" ...how do you breath? My 11 year old self in 1996 figured it out in a few seconds, why do adults on RUclips act like it's that complicated? And once you hold onto the center portion of the controller, take a look at how your thumb is resting. That's right. It's the best position possible, and that makes this one of the best controllers ever made. Whoever designed this is a genius. Other than that, great retrospective. 👍
….it’s a joke…
I wasn't old enough for video games when these came out. By the time I was old enough for my first handheld, the DS Lite had already come out. I'm rectifying this by playing through the Oracle Games right now.
what song is that in the background of the first section of the vid?
It’s a royalty free track from epidemic sound from their 1990s genre collection.
Now play it without pressing A!
I saw someone accomplished that….i just ask, why?
Great presentation. I love the Oracle series
Thank you! I thought they had a lot of great ideas in those games. I really liked the twist on a few of the series’ staple items.
Kirby and the crystal shards is the one example I know of with a 2D N64 game that uses the D pad for movement
I never played crystal shards. I believe it’s on the NSO I’ll have to try it with the n64 controller.
All the 2D games use the d pad
@@rooty I don’t think Yoshi’s story did, but that’s relying on a very old memory
is there a video on miyamoto’s ideas he had to limit?
that's not how you pronounce miyamoto
He’s not My-a-moto. He’s Our-a-moto.
Jesus loves you!
Nice editing, entertaining video!
kinda makes me think about the many romhacks of this game, and wonder if at large, has the hacking scene kinda missed the idea of exploration in favor of either raw difficulty, or spectacle.
Super Mario World does a lot with a little when it comes to its mechanics. The simple act of the spin jump and throwing objects upward brings a lot of new ideas in how Mario can interact with the environment and some enemies. Add in the enemy mechanics on top of this you can make some challenging precision platforming levels.
@@SuperMetaFun yeah, and "less is more" is seldom the Creed for most ROM hackers and modders of any game, maximalism is usually the name of the game. It's not always a bad thing but when amateurs pick up the work of the hackers that create that stuff, they tend to use it without much thought.
