Should you pay the premium on the Livewire S2 Del Mar?
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.10 месяцев назад
The S2 Del Mar sells for $15,500. Since I preordered it, the LW (Harley) dealer subtracted a lot of the outdoor costs from the MSRP (dealer prep, transportation), so I only had to pay TTL putting it over $16k total. Is the bike worth that much? There a lot of options at the price range, even other EV bikes from other brands. #livewire #s2dm #motorcycle

      @@flip_moto Aprilias V4 are indeed torquey, but so are the Triples, they are very similar in power delivery. But Tuono is about 30 kilos heavier, exhaust note is by far the craziest thing you will ever experience and they pull like they are 250hp not 175. But they are heavy as fuck. I miss how easily I could throw my 675r around, they also have that induction noise which is very unique.

    Just a note for anyone that has never had a bike with a dry clutch. If you are in a hot climate, and find yourself in stop and go traffic on the freeway.....do not ride the clutch! You can literally burn up the clutch. At the least you will ware out the clutch prematurely, and friends, replacing anything on a Ducati is not inexpensive, and attempting to do certain jobs yourself is so discouraged by Ducati that it can be difficult to locate shop manuals. Which is the only way you are going to get a detailed step by step how to. It took me two months when I was trying to locate a shop manual online, to find it and get it downloaded before Ducati pulled it down. They really want all serious work on their bikes done only by factory licensed mechanics, which is why hourly rates are considerably higher than the usual shop rate.

    I think lane splitting is stupid but lane filtering makes sense. I have yet to hear about what is the rule for when you've filtered to the traffic intersection. Is the motorcycle supposed to drag race other motorists? As an EV owner I can make it a drag race that is unsafe for any motocyclist. As a motorcyclist I don't want to be the entitled prick, I'm happy to have the safety of not being squished in a rear collision and do what's best in the case of leaving the intersection.

    • @flip_moto
      @flip_moto 6 месяцев назад

      Yeah i wish norms can decipher the difference between filtering and splitting. Filtering is 100% positive improvement for everyone. Splitting under 30mph is good. Riders who split anytime, any where, at stupid speeds, fuck it up for all of us. The 'entitled' thing is a rough argument. From a non motorcycle POV, it does seem like cheating or rule breaking, but filtering is safer.

      @@flip_motogood luck with that attitude, there are people out there that also have that attitude as cagers and intentionally put riders breaking the rules in O-$h!t stage. Keep that in mind, cagers are not saints either.

      start a PAC. elect a leader. create a website. start a fund me to pay for website and collect donations. find a receptive Texas State Rep (hopefully with a reputation that can get a bill passed). modify a bill recently passed by another state (Minnesota), find a deep pocketed TX motorcycle rider to bribe said State rep to submit bill. Lobby all other reps that motorcyclists are indeed voters, and its in their best interest to vote YAY on the bill. Get news and media to put a positive spin on practice of splitting and filtering. wait years for the bill to make it the docket. Hold a rally at capitol before bill is presented for voting. Bill is passed, wait years to be implemented. simple plan right?!? LOL Don't mean to be discouraging, but it would require a significant amount of effort to rally the squids and harley bros to support.

    Nice review. Too loud??? You're the only triumph owner who I've ever heard say that. When the thruxon 900 came out everyone complained the stock pipes were too quiet lol. Each to their own. The loud noise will save you from being hit by a car though... they may hear the nose and realize you are there. Stock pipes would be way cheaper than buying another bike... the tax of a new bike alone will cost as much as new pipes. Aero pipes are fairly quiet from my experience having them before... not quite but quieter...

    When traffic is barely moving I agree with lane splitting. 1. For the riders safety so they don't get hit from behind. 2. Motorcyclists don't have air conditioning. They rely on moving for their A/C, and riders have to/or should wear safety jackets even in summer. So it gets hot wearing that gear in hot weather while people in cars have their air conditioning. 3. Limited gasoline. Motorcycles only hold a few gallons of gas. They need to fill up more often then cars. Forced to sit in traffic with a low tank is not good for the motorcyclist. Lane splitting does cause problems which is why I believe they passed the law against it. 1. Motorcycles were driving too fast through traffic and too many accidents. 2. Causes too much road rage situations.

    • @flip_moto
      @flip_moto 6 месяцев назад

      Good points. The #2 problem, I just have not seen or experienced it other than being pulled over or waved at by cops. In recent podcast from revzilla they even mentioned negativity towards lane splitting/filtering seems to have calmed down. It may be anecdotal, but the increase in anger towards congestion, and people distracted by phones, is much worse than a 2-wheeler taking a small advantage. IMHO, the biggest negativity towards splitting is it just scares some people when they witness it the first time. If more riders did it, that would no longer be an issue.

    • @AceGoodheart
      @AceGoodheart 6 месяцев назад

      @@flip_moto I believe if they would educate all drivers about the safety of motorcycles and why lane filtering is necessary then it would reduce a lot of the tension we see from car drivers. Car drivers are not educated about motorcycle safety therefore they don't care. Sad. I'm 49 and just started riding a few months ago. It's never bothered me seeing motorcycles filtering during traffic. I've always envied them but in a good way. It's only now that I'm a rider myself that I see and understand what motorcyclist go through. Especially the heat. Wearing all that safety gear makes it hot when not moving.

    How much did it cost to decat and get a race ECU? Between doing that or leaving the bike as is, what do you recommend?

    • @flip_moto
      @flip_moto 7 месяцев назад

      the Miiv full system is one of the more affordable decatted exhaust, about $900. SC project is the other popular one for about $1300-1800. RaceECU was $400 from AF1 racing. Highly recommend doing it, it level out the power band, get more torque in the mid-range. If you do that and gear down the front sprocket one tooth the bike becomes lightening quick. It will lose a little top speed which only really matters at tracks as big as COTA.

    Motorcycles are toys, just buy whatever makes you happy honestly. Ride them until the warranty expires, then sell it for something new. Its way more enjoyable expericing new bikes than riding the same bike for years.
