    Hey, great video, I will be doing mostly all that same work soon on my 2006 R53. for the decals on the rear bumper, you can use "3M adhesive remover". I've got a container here, been using it on stickers and decals for more than 5 years and it removes everything and anything with no damage to the paint. I just brush it on, give it a few minutes then use a plastic scraper and scrape the decal off. I follow that with a wash of warm soapy water to get rid of any remaining adhesive remover solution.

    • @ThorMotorWerks
      @ThorMotorWerks 3 дня назад

      @@jayjay6117 Thanks for tip, these decals are a bit weird, they have a sort of metal layer incorporated into them, which I think is what’s made it so difficult to get them off, that and they are flaking off with age. Just went through this with an 05. Ended up going down the blasting to clean metal then bilt hamber atom-mac down the inside to kill anything I can't get at. hydrate 80, electrox primer and then the epoxy mastic followed by dynax s50 and UC wax before building it back up. The epoxy mastic is much harder wearing than regular paints or plastic coatings so hopefully it lasts

That section under that tank is just asking to rot away with nothing in place. Did you manage to get to the under light section from underneath? That’s another extremely weak point. I’ve used Buzzweld WAR as it’s pretty hard wearing, but it’s hard work getting it back to a state that can be coated, so feel your pain.

    My R53 is an Australian car. Full JCW. This rust is horrendous and couldn't cope with that. My underbody is like new mostly because I clean it. No rust. Lucky to be well away from salt air and no snow and salt issues. I did my own 100000 mile service nearly a year ago even though still hasn't reached that yet. A lot of leaks...almost did not get a pink slip...MOT? Because of leaks....crank sensor, sump, power steering, radiator...you name it. Did supercharger service and all. After all that..only leak left was oil filter housing. Was leaking bad and had to be sorted. Decided its time. Took a week off work. Had a few other things to tackle but oil filter housing was priority. I did it all from the top mostly. Had to drop housing with cooler and hoses still connected through the bottom. Couldn't get it out without taking a bolt out of the sway bar link and moving that aside. An absolute nightmare but I did it. Goes in same way but you need someone to hold it around about in place to get a bolt in. Thanks son! As much as this was a nightmare I can never understand when someone goes to the trouble to take cars apart to this extent.,,why not clean up the parts and repaint if necessary? My mini is almost 22 years old and like new inside, out and underneath. If you have the time....clean..repaint if required before putting back together. I acknowledge that living in places where a car gets a lot of salt sucks, especially if you love your car.

    My 2005 R50 spent the first decade of its life in Canada, and the subframes were quite rusty (surface rust). During Covid I learned how to do all the work on my car, and I found pulling and restoring the subframes to be quite therapeutic! Ground off all the rust, painted them inside and out with POR-15, new Powerflex purple bushings, new power steering pump and hoses, new upper and lower ball joints... everything like new. I hope this video encourages others to do the same!
