The third girl was the worst i have ever seen

Ok so the idea is that you live in a town with a couple hundred people in it, it's not huge but it's not small. And you get attacked by 100 guys, so you get 100 of your lads to try and defend the town. In a 1 on 1 fight, it's a coin toss as to who wins, but in a 2 on 1 fight the 2 have a huge advantage. So in a 5 on 1 fight the 5 will always win and usually won't even lose a guy, so they can easily take on 5 single enemies 1 at a time, so when you see the 100 guys all lined up shoulder to shoulder, you and your lads do it too. The enemy have archers, so your guys get shields etc. War is just a game of 1 upping each other, and when muskets with bayonets were invented and mass produced you didn't need much else. You have a spear that can shoot a ball of lead at someone 20 feet away, and you were in a column with all of your lads who also had muskets towards a column of enemies with muskets, both sides knew that if they ran away they would just get shot in the back and then chased down and attacked from behind, so the best option was to close the distance and get a good volley off before the other side did, and muskets weren't super accurate at a distance so you had to get really close for a good volley. And because they got more accurate the closer you got it became a game of chicken, where marching towards the enemy and not breaking while getting shot at is intimidating, you are also less likely to get hit the further back you are which means the guys you march towards have to hold and have the nerve not to shoot to early, because if they are too far they won't hit and if they are too close the enemy will have already hit them first. Guerilla warfare evolved around "modern" armies like this by noticing that they are outnumbered and they couldn't win in a conventional war, but if they sneak up to the side of the column, shoot 1 guy and run away before anyone even knows what happened, you only got 1 kill but they got 0 and lost 1 guy, rinse and repeat until they have to evolve as well. But yeah gunlines sound dumb but are actually hundreds of years of finding the best way to fight and win a battle, and it dominated for a while.
