MIC SHOOTOUT Beyerdynamic MC930 vs Neumann KM184 vs Rode Nt5 (Part 2)
I teamed up with my brother Simone ruclips.net/user/sselvatico and compared 3 widely used small diaphragm condenser microphones. The results were somehow shocking to us!

what preamp you're using? this sounds really incredible, in a way you don't hear much on youtube.
Aqui testei ímã, papelão, pano, plástico bolha, bloquinhos de isopor e no fim deu certo manta de isopor.
The Beyer is surprisingly good. The NT5 is a slower mic. It doesn't catch the transients the same way the Neumann or Beyer do. This can be heard during the "strumming" parts on guitar and mandolin where the pick or fingers are dragged across the strings slower than a standard strum. With the Neumann and the Beyer we can clearly hear each pluck and count the notes. The Rode smears a bit during those times and catches the broad picture rather than the individual strokes. It's not a bad mic, at all, but it isn't in the same class when it comes to sensitivity or transient response.
Wonderful! Thanks
I've been playing 18" bass drums for about 25 years now, exclusively. I think you'll find that, eventually, the drum will sound best wide open, or with minimal dampening (even less than what you're using now). It's a good sound and I've found 18's to be remarkably versatile. Nice build. Thanks for showing us. 👍
True. I had a Gretsch Catalina 18 and it Boomed and thumped. That was a Great Kit.
You can buy an 18” base drum a friend had one bought it at Mandy’s in New York
I'll try it. Now I need to look for a magnet of sorts.
Hosa has a 12 channel with each set independent from the others. Open bottom just flip them at will in any config and maintain warranty
smart move
sounds great 👍
Exactly what I plan on doing.
Your a genius, mate! 👍........ Sorted! 😊
The treble peak on the 184 can be harsh at times. I think I like the more natural beyer
GREAT !! Thank you !!

thnks for your work!
Great Work! I am currently creating a portable kit and I am also using my 13 inch rack tom as floor tom! May I ask you what reso head did you use? Also...what type of clamp/bracket did you use to mount your crash cymbal from the Hi-Hat stand? I am also trying to do the same thing!
a worthy project. It cleaned up really nice! what is that shell made of?
In my country the big bass drum heads is very expansive , is more good have a tiny 16 inch or 18 bass drum with a tom heads
I love the tiny's bass drums ❤
i did the same thing to a rack tom but also changed my finish but you did a good job too
Respect for creativity. Thank you. I learned the riff and power chords on my guitar, but do you know what do I miss? 😂
I like your video, glad i found this because i have plan to do this too, thanks man

I'm surprised at how close these all are.
Which instrument is the first one?
Doudouk...🎶
O Beyer deveria ser a referencia pois é o melhor ;) Neumann é bem equilibrado e o Nt5 mais borrado na porção medio/grave e o Akg é nasal.
Hey what is the tracks name by chlorinde
They all sound excellent. From that perspective, the Neumann models are just not worth the extra money.
NICE
Great stuff thanks....it makes alot of sense!
I bought the BeyerDynamic... because the mid tones are stronger ; this explains the surprising result with cymbals. The Neumanns can wait for another day when I have more cash
Do you like them
they sound great - warm@@travelthebest2676
You are a G! Thanks so much!
I prefer the Gretsch set in the background! Cheers!
You did good. Cheers!
Genious! I was thinking about cutting the bell to change the pitch and this is so much easier and allows for adjustment. Thank you!
it works!!! thank you very much.
You've written "part 1" in the title, but this is part 2, isn't it?
you are right! thanks
In the future, how about time-stamping your recording tests? Maybe, you could also do the same with the test recordings which you have already done.
good idea, thanks
Nice job, very interesting!
YES! just what I need, thanks!
i like the mc930 transparent I have one and happy.
What a missed opportunity. Horrible mic placement.
Just confirming that this mod totally works. I've modded a few of these. Personally, I used a Dremel tool, but to each their own!
Nice job 👍
You could also desolder and resolder the connectors on the opposite sides of you wanted a more custom configuration. This shows me that the hosa is easier to reverse. I don't think I want to do all that soldering just to get an out/in/out/in configuration.
but isn't the Hosa also 3 times the price ? aha
@@bobco5 no it's a $10 price difference making it well worth the $10 for the ease of configuration. I ended up buying two of them and now I have inputs on the bottom and outputs on top with a section off to the right that's all input that brings all of my interface inputs up front. Easy peasy.
@@russellwiley7869 up here in cold Canada , Winnipeg , Long and McQuade the ART P16 is $99, the Hosa PDR-369 XLR Patch Bay is $310 ! and the Hosa is only 12 channel... I see the Hosa is only $109 US at Sweetwater tho wth ...
@@bobco5 Yes, I was going to say look at Sweetwater. Art is $99.99 and Hosa is $108.95. After buying one, I turned around and bought another. I don't know anything about Canadian pricing. Sweetwater is just the next state over from me, so it's not even that far to ship it and if worse came to worse, I could make the drive.
I use the MC930 paired with an AEA-R84 ribbon mic to record string bass and it's a perfect combo because the MC930 brings out the extra detail that you might lack with just the ribbon alone. But they're all great mics.
I was thinking something like this too: a ribbon paired with theMC 930.
DEAD MAN SCORE!
Heck yeah!! My reaction precisely!!
