Preparing for War(Hammer Legions Imperialis)
Interesting formations. I think the main thing is that they are allies that don't count towards the ally limit, so its a nice way to get some ad mech in an army without worrying about adding to your ally total.
@@rathstar absolutely. I didn’t want to mention that as a use for each one, but that is something 5/7 of them have in common.
all the best for your health from Germany!

Thanks for video. Less thanks for making me annoyed with my past self for having all my arti battles pointed every which way. Yours way is better and now I’m never not going to see them positioned ‘wrong’. 😜
@@davidchambers331 oh no… that was not my intent. Alright, I got a solution. Get more, build them in positions to pair with your previous angles problem solved.

Another very useful video! I'm waiting for my Astartes to arrive and then I focus on Knights, which thanks to your video I found out that I can play them as an independent faction! Cheers!
@@zeroa6 I’m glad you’re liking them! And thanks for the comments, it helps me keep going!
VERY good video!!! Question: For playing only Knights, ¿what book do I need? Thanks!

My previous game and 1st match against mechanicum... Ouch...barely survived.😅
@@Abaddon86 what did you feel was the biggest threat?
@EagleSpireGaming Thanatar, and other 2 unit that I didn't know the name,1 with jump pack and 1 with giant Axe thingy(both having high CAF).so painful when meet head on.even my termis(iron warriors) can't stand a chance. Perhaps next session,I will try some S.A allies(basilisk and Medusa) I dont know if some of mechanicum unit can deep strike or not.
@ the only thing I can find is that the Vultarax have outflank. Are you thinking a whole artillery company? Medusa may not be the right play into mechanicum, as it gives them the perfect target for “stab the shooty things”
@@EagleSpireGaming wow, they got outflank... I guess changing my Deredeo to Leviathan dreadnought.for this Saturday's session.2k point.unless that guy wanna tryout 2.5k or 3k.then I can use my Legio Mortis.haven't decided on the list.yet.
I noticed there is no mention of transport options is this a limitation to taking these Detachments?
@@Jab-02 great question. There are two ways to include transports into a list. The first is when a formation has a detachment slot available to it, usually it’s just a “transport” detachment, but thunderhawks and storm eagles are the current exceptions to this, and instead occupy the “air support” detachment. The second scenario is particular formations which have a special rule saying that detachments can be upgraded with (transport). Sadly, none of these support formations include either of those, so that is a limitation. Good catch, it didn’t cross my mind at the time.
Almost every available option is a walker, so it doesn't really matter!
Great info, hope all is well!
To make a short story, Friday I woke up to intense pain, went to the ER, and after 5 hours they determined my gallbladder hates me. No surgery scheduled yet because they closed for a long weekend before I could set one.
@EagleSpireGaming That sounds like a bad weekend, hopefully the machine god can replace it with a better mechanical one. All jokes aside good luck and feel better fast.
There’s gotta be a catch here, right? The fact that this box and the total box are under $200 seems suspicious. Can you play these in 40K?
@@magmaticgames no they’re not the right size for 40K, this is epic scale. But now that you bring it up I realize I did a poor job explaining what’s in the box and how much it costs. Sorry about that.
Absolutely love the back and fourth banter between you two. It was lovely to watch, and even helped me understand stuff more. Thanks to you explaining stuff to her. All in all a great video. 🎉🎉🎉

@@Jab-02 ah, so the other set, castigator and archeon is a 4 pack. Thought I mentioned that, but oh well. Does increase the value of the box
@EagleSpireGaming I wish they still had the 2 pack you showed from titanicus I dont want 4 of them lol.

@@EagleSpireGaming Oh maybe im mistaken I thought they were 1 per spru haha IDK im no expert, hence I keep asking you questions lol. Keep up the good work.

Whats the smallest viable point game with LI?
@@daveb8665 depends on what you define as viable. A 3k game is going to allow you to have a lot more balance, the ability to take aircraft and not automatically win because your opponent can’t deal with them. 2k will be closer to a real game than 1.5 or 1k, but you might feel like you run out of units fast. I’ll be trying to run some 500 and 1000 point games to introduce some people to it, but it will be important to stress that those levels are not a good representation of the game.
Excellent answer @@EagleSpireGaming
The Iron warriors and Alpha Legion are easy build for basic Detachment(formations of Legend). 4 box of infantry for both. 4× Termis and 4× plasma gun. The vehicle side a bit painful...😅
@@Abaddon86 so you’re just rolling with the basic level detachment? The nice thing about it is you can build both sets of infantry from the same sprues.
@@EagleSpireGaming yup, thats the plan, for the both sprue. Since I played Alpha legion,Dark Angels and Iron Warriors.
@@Abaddon86 will you be making a dark Angel force?
@@EagleSpireGaming yup.for now only this 3 Legion with some Auxilia allies.
Dunno how far you've gotten, but you should see if you like how it looks with 4 models per base instead of 5. Or even as low as 3 for the termies. It makes those infantry boxes go a LOT further. Tbh for my Justaerin I find 3 termies per base communicates how elite they are nicely, and doesn't look too sparse. Maybe for Iron Warriors you want a more crowded, weight-of-numbers look, though. Just going down to 4 per base still gives you 3 bases per box, though, which is a big upgrade. Just need to find the spare bases somewhere.
Personally I am in team Vanquisher. I think the all Lascannon can work ok, but the range is short, and the battle cannon just does nothing very well. My table is 8x6, though I dream of one day having 16x6 for historicals and big games. A 9x5 pingpong table folds up pretty small to put in a corner and can be used as a good table base.
@@Mittens_Gaming yeah, I just like the lascannon for a unit to push forwards and not stress about being up close. The vanquisher unit will be the threat from the rear, but the lascannons are my forward assault force. I just hope they don’t make a formation of legend where I need a different weapon loadout.
Secutors being 2x1 base versus Castellax being 3x1 base is throwing me. Castellax are big bots. Secutors are humans with monstrous augmentations. I think the castellax would look fine 2x1.
I’ve got a 6’ by 9’ table and enough terrain to fill it so I’m very happy they are doing some ‘big game’ scenarios. Now I need to get painting some troops! You’ve done a nice job on the tanks!
I’ve got an army, you’ve got a table, sounds like a good deal. Thanks, I put a lot of time into them.
3:54 that’s also a Krios, but with a different gun
@@johnsd3341 I figure as much, but sometimes they give them new names, like the storm blade and shadow blade. Also just couldn’t tell what the gun is.
Knights and Titans being able to be played on their own makes sense but them not having it at release so they can get AT players to buy new stuff also makes sense.
@@Mittens_Gaming that and just a way to space out the releases I guess
Can’t wait to build some dark mechanicum
@@Pluto.AAC_ what colors are you going to go with?
I really like big games on big tables. Playing 3k points on an 8x6 table with lots of terrain really feels like an entirely different game. Eventually I would like to be able to run 6-9k games. I dont run tiles myself, I use a lot of 3rd party terrain and a lot of cliffs and such.
that size might take a while to play, but i bet it is just absolutely epic!
It's a bit unfortunate at low points when your whole army could be one formation, and you have to deploy it all at once. Had that at 1000 points but I reworked it to include a Skyhunter Phalanx as well. Even just two formations feels a lot more flexible to deploy, and of course you get the Outflank bonus on the fast attack stuff.
@@AyeDubbleYoo yeah, you need some way to get an idea of where your opponent is playing. Alternatively, at low points like that, maybe play with a fog of war like mechanic, where you and your opponent deploy in secret.
You and your opponent could just alternate deployment per detachment instead of per formation. Much more fun that way in my opinion. Of course that depends on how much either you or your opponent follow GW's word.
@@s2korpionic I would have to be playing a fairly small game for it to feel like this is the right choice, but it’s definitely an option, especially if I’m just showing people how to play.
Ideally I think you need both large and small detachments. Large detachments are great to activate first and get lots of damage in on a key target for a single activation. Small detachments are great for waiting out the enemy to move key units you want to target, eg. waiting for a vehicle to move to infantry can charge it and it can't get away. Small units are also useful for getting objectives in locations where you won't really be able to fire on the enemy due to terrain (no point wasting a large firepower unit for this task). While some of the fast attack marines units are great form small detachments I also like 5 bolter marines in 2 rhinos giving 2 activations for 55 points, and will marching+dsembark+March/Advance can move some distance in a single turn. Looking out for points discounts as you said can change the decision, eg. Kratos at max size drop 75 points each to 58.3 each, Sentinals drop from 17.5 to 12.5 each at max size. Another points discount is if you include specialists with basic drops, eg. you save 10 points by including missile marines with basic bolter marines. While tactically this doesn't work, eg. bolter marines slowing down assault marines and preventing terminators from deep striking they can be great for giving the specialists ablative wounds, for example missile marines and ogyrns. Cheap ablative wounds are also great for aggressive units that will take casulaties early, eg. infiltrating missile marines and aggressive ogryns.
@@rathstar very well said, and don’t forget the formations of legend as a third way to save points.
Spend a quarter of your points on small detachments, a half on medium and a quarter on large. Flexibility. Combined arms! Obviously this is all somewhat dependent on the size of game you’re playing.
@@davidwasilewski we might need to adjust these numbers a bit. 1/2 of a 3k game is 1,500; and we’re spending that on medium detachments. 1/4 is 750, and that’s our value for small and large. So our largest formation is 750, and we have twice that for medium formations. This means we need to break the medium formations into 3 formations minimum, of 500 points each. There’s just not a lot of room for tanks when we break it up this way. Edit, I realize we both said detachments, but I was thinking about formations the entire time.
It would be good to have a comparison video where you look at amore efficient list while still trying not to spend crazy money (eg. no list with 20+ missile marines), eg. I think the 6 model kratos detachment for 350 points (only 50 points more than 2 units of 2) is really good, so much I've bought boxes to have 2 detachments of 6
@@rathstar yeah, I need to make a few more list building videos in general. I haven’t had any internet in a few days and I’m trying to load one up from my phone right now.
Personally I prefer my terrains to be between 4 to 7 inches high. Really helps adding to the sense of 'epic' scale.
@@s2korpionic they look a lot better than the little ones. Honestly the little baby buildings don’t fit in at all. I do like the idea of some buildings smaller than Warhounds to give them better fields of fire than tanks, and continuing that theme with each larger Titan.
Got any spare bits?
@@ChaseDaOrk3767 quite a few actually, what are you looking for?
They didn’t have enough painted to heavy metal standard to do a full army photo for the back.
@@duncanwilloughby that’s an interesting thought. They couldn’t wait for them to finish?
@@EagleSpireGaming Never delay a release for graphic consistency. That’s why you have multiple acceptable graphic design standards. Peachy has talked a lot about how inefficient the photography process is too. Jordan’s sorcery touches on it, older interviews he talks about it extensively.
That makes a lot of sense. So I’m leaning towards this is real. But I still think it will take awhile to come out.
Also may see Knights and Titans in Mechanicum book
possibly. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of tanks. At least not in the HH section of GW's website, they'll probably also get the 40k tanks, or some version of them.
Maybe it's the christmas box, but they don't typically do anything outside 40k and AOS so who knows.
Definitely one option.
