I'm a photographer from the UK, shooting 35mm and other film formats. I love to travel, have a lot of cameras and I like to experiment with all types of films.
Check out my videos to hear me share stories about my photographs, cameras and travels.
You'll find content about film, cross-processing, the Olympus MjuII (AKA the Stylus Epic) and OM10, Canon EOS and Epoca, the Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim, Kodak Ektar, BW400CN and Ektachrome, Ilford XP2 and Pan F, Lomo Purple and ancient old films I've picked up along the way, whether I am at home or abroad.
I love to hear comments on what I've been doing, so please dive in and let me know. I don't post regularly, so make sure you subscribe to find out when the next episode is up :D

22 Year Old Expired Polaroid Image System (Spectra) Film and Camera!!
I test out some 22 year old expired film in my vintage Polaroid Image System/Spectra camera. With film that old it's a roll of the dice if it'll work - watch the video to hear me explain the pitfalls and test both the camera and film!

Man, the shot at 2:30 is a little piece of art. I love it!
Ahh thank you so much, that cheers me up on a Sunday evening. Glad you liked it.
I love this and your voice is so relaxing
@@experiFilm ahh thank you! I'm glad you liked it and glad you liked my voice 🙂
SICCCCKKKKKK FRAMES YOU GOT FROM THIS! 💯🔥😍🔥😍🔥
The chaps seem to be under 20, if the film is 30 years old, they are alive. But even if the pictures are much older, being from the 1960s, they still most probably are alive. Would be interesting to know the format of the frame. From there we could conclude if that portrait format was with the camera hold horizontally (6x4,5) or vertically (6x9).
Hello and thanks for your comment! It's 620 film, same size as 120. The portrait images are about 2.2 x 3 inches. It's hard to tell as the film is so fogged.
@@photochatvlog Yes, but you still see the orientation relative to the film strip.
hey I just discovered your video. I recently jumped into the world of film photography inspired by my late grandfather. and I picked up a big mini 301 as a more modern camera to use besides his old cameras. and I really enjoyed your video.
Ahh thank you so much! Sorry for the delay in replying and good luck with the Big Mini!
ooof. I have 12 packs of spectra arriving in the post (Ebay)....6 of the packs are grid film. I should have watched this before impulse buying lol. Will get my test meter our also.
Did any of it work for you?
I bought one for €25 including shipping in the Netherlands battery is completely dead and the lightsale has become a big mess.
Hi Tobias - that sounds disappointing! Sorry to hear that :(
Only success with Spectra stuff that I’ve had is late 2000’s. With old 600 and Spectra you want it to be as new as possible, and the newest stuff is from 2008/2009. If you’re lucky enough to find some SoftTone film you’ll get something, though I’ve even had poor results with that. I’m currently shooting 2 packs of it and despite apparently being cold stored for some time it still has spread errors, but does produce an image.
Hello there - thanks for the comment and apologies for the late reply! Yes, I think just by the movement of time we are mostly out of luck for Polaroid films being usable at all now. I have some in storage - they ought to get shot just because nothing else is going to happen with them!
Sigh...so sad
Yes, it's sad indeed. Inevitable, but sad. Thanks for stopping by though!
A great reminder to really see where we live.
Hi Denise! Apologies for the late reply! Thanks for the comment, and yes, you are right!
Great video, inspiring, informative, entertaining
Thank you Alexander for your kind words! They mean a lot!
hey can u teach me on how to use this film camera
Hi Aina, there is really nothing to learn with this camera - it is about as simple as it gets. Just load it with film and go out in the sunshine and you can take lots of photos as long as it's daytime. Have fun!
Awesome vid. I love old weird cameras
Thanks Tiago - the TW-3 is gloriously weird :D
I was looking for direction/inspiration on Flicker and found it here. Your photos made me stop and look. Two of your comments stand out, "...makes me consider what together is" and "I didn't realize until now how much I like being out." I'll think about later today when I go outdoors to see what I can see.
Hi Pamela, thank you for your lovely comment - that is really kind of you and has made my day! I hope you had a good day taking photos :)
Hi! I found my dad's old fuji camera in my house and i have no idea how to make it work. Thank you for the video! Very useful. And, excuse me if you've already said it on the video (im not an english speaker), but how can i charge the batery? Thanks :)))
Hi Val - sorry for the delay in replying. The battery is not easy to change but it can be done - this web page has some details on how to do it; www.mikeeckman.com/2021/06/fuji-tw-3-1985/ I have done it myself, it was okay!
thanks for sharing! some great shots from your samurai. your chat about this unique piece makes me think this is just a fun camera.
Hey thanks for the comment! It is a very good fun camera to use - quite big for what it is, but really makes you think differently about taking 35mm photos!
What a great video I was always curious about this camera
Ahh thanks Alvyn, what a nice comment - really made my day!
How to clean lens of mju ii if theres fungus?
I'm afraid I don't know how to do that my friend.
Nice vid man! It's cool to see someone else's perspective of S.F. I'm from the Bay Area but I need to capture more. Be a tourist in my own area. My 35 arrives today. First time shooting film in 20 yrs or so. Subbed....
Hello RocketRyder, thanks for the comment - glad you liked the video and good luck shooting film again!
Just put new seals in it...why waste all that time every time you load and unload. Seals take 20 minutes 1 time and good to go for the next 20 years
Where would I get seals for a TW-3?
@@photochatvlog buy 1.5mm and 2mm Japan hobby foam and an exact knife. If you shoot film, you need to know how to replace seals.
We found one in a japanese surplus and bought it for 10 bucks
That was a bargain mate, well done!
Looking forward to the next video !
It'll be here soon!

Hi Blackfox - sorry for the late reply. I have the results! 2020 has been difficult though - videos not easy to make. They will appear though! Thanks for commenting!
I think the best thing about waiting before developing the photos is the different meaning the photos can take on months or years down the line.
I think you are right - we're too quick to decide "what is" based on what just happened. Time gives things perspective.
@@photochatvlog A bit off topic I know but I was wondering what has your experience with the olympus om10 been like ? I've been thinking about moving to the OM family. And yes definitely in this current world.
@@Hershie00 Oh I got lucky with mine I think. Lovely light-weight camera which really upped my game with taking nice pictures. I now have an OM2 and I can see what an example of a not-great one is like; that one has a very rough wind-on system, like it's full of sand, and unreliable metering! But it was a freebie so no loss to me. So I'm sticking with my trusty OM10 for the time being. Basically at the moment I know if I put good film in it and go anywhere, it can get me really nice results. I've eased back with "trick" films like expired slide or stuff like that. I tend to go for XP2 or Ektar in that these days and shoot smaller cams with the crazy stuff.
@@photochatvlog Thanks for the information ! and that surprises me with OM2 I've always heard good things about the camera and the metering , well i'll stay far away from it now, not too keen on dodgy winding ( although i was planning on getting the power winder for it ) thanks :)
@@Hershie00 Well I'm not saying the OM2 is bad at all, only the version that I had. So I suppose what I really mean is that although it's an OM, if it hasn't been looked after then the name can't save a duff camera. I bet that a properly looked after and serviced OM2 would be great.
congrats on 100 subs ! its been really cool to watch you grow over the years ! i hope you keep up the amazing work :)
Thanks Kieran - comments like that do inspire me to keep going. I have a couple of videos part-started but you-know-what has turned so much upside down right now it's hard to know where to get started again!
As always a great video !
Thanks Kieran, thanks for your kind words.
Ive put batteries in mine, but it still seems to be a bit twitchy if left sitting. Have you had any issues with grabbing the camera and not having it fire immediately? It couldve have been underexposure prevention, but not sure.
Sorry for the late reply mate, and thanks for the comment. Not sure I have had problems with immediate firing. Underexposure yes, but that's harder to fathom out (brain is thinking higher ISO film with a fake DX code....hmmm)
I put new batteries in again a while back and it perked right up. I think it got left in wide mode which either continually ran the light meter or flash charger. Moral: always make sure the lens is switched to the middle position when not in immediate use.
@@69sterlingsilver that's a good point mate
I really like the church image! Great video!!👍👍👍
Hey L Scott, sorry for the late reply - thanks for the comment and glad you liked the image!
first and liked the vlog, i am also a slow photographer, my pictures usually mature for about 2 years before I finish, print and or upload them somewhere
Well done on first and good to know it's not just me who likes to wait :D Thanks for commenting!
@@photochatvlog 99% of what u said in this vlog i totally agree and i can say that i am evolved also to a slow digital photographer over the years. the 1% which sometimes makes me feel like a betrayer of this slow process, is the occasional snapshot, the moment u took on a phone and cant wait to share. but it always makes me feel like i was wrong because it shows me that my camera was with me but not ready for that moment.
Have you tried pre-exposing them in camera?

Wow - Nice haul! A lot of those Helios lenses have a great reputation. OM2n was my first SLR - it’s a quality camera

Please help to convert batteries. Fuji tw-3
My friend, have you seen this page? That is what I followed - www.subclub.org/shop/tw3.htm - you can tape two CR2 3V cells together to make the battery.
Poundland film! Found some in my local a few years back... can’t wait till they have stock again
We may be waiting a while for that...but you never know!
The Fuji is just terrible. The lens especially is bad. Max aperture of 8‽ The 23mm of the “wide” is actually normal. The 69 is about a 135mm, so not bad but at f8 you have to have fast film and broad daylight to use it. Practically useless. A faster normal lens is always better than these monstrosity’s.
Thanks for the comment Helge. Do you have a favourite camera for half frame photography?
Photo Chat Vlog well actually it is the Samurai X3.0. It’s a quite remarkable camera from a design view and when you look at the specs. There is really no other camera that matches it. It can be a struggle to make it focus in low light though. But that goes for the scale focus half frames too. Yashica really should have supplied an IR focus assist light. My other favorite is the Fujica Half. Really a better version of the Canon Dial 35. With the scale focus HF cameras with faster lenses, the advantage of the fast lens is lost in it having such a relatively shallow depth of field. When you open up fully, nailing focus is very hard.
Great video! I always wanted to have one! 🧡
Thank you! MjuIIs are so expensive now, and they are getting old and unreliable. But still, if you seek you will eventually find! Just don't pay too much - tip: look in car boot sales or markets, not online!
