Could you put these on a small boat?
@5678seth they just bolt on. Could probably attached easily enough.
Could you put these on a small boat?
another helpful quick video would be "the paint for sportspal canoes" 😀
Good to know, thank you
Where do you find the serial number on these ?
@danflowers8584 the older ones were painted on the side below decal and other deck. Some were stamped into the gunnel at the end or right at the bar.
You’re freaking awesome. I have an 11’ used Sportspal in my backyard right now that have tons of leaks and lot’s of strange different caulking. Now Zi know how to take care of her. Thank you so much from Canada.
@danflowers8584 Awesome and your welcome from Canada
Love the videos, just got a old sportspal. Did they have canvas on frame on the early models. Was thinking they were all alum. this one may be from the 70's can't find a serial # and hoping to put some seats in it .Any place i can order that has in stock? I'm in TN thanks again
@fitnesssolutions7100 thanks for reaching out. To my knowledge they never had anything canvas on them. That being said I have seen some silly set ups come in for repair where people used makeshift materials. The best option for seats would be Kenco Outfitters in New York, they can get them shipped to you easily and Bill is a good guy to deal with.
We have the 14' wide transom. Generally use one of our electrics on it but sometimes use our 2.5 Merc. We love it! Best small water boat out there, and light. This spring i bought the 12' solo for paddling small ponds. Best fishing outfit I've had. I sold my heavy beast fishing kayak. So much more comfortable and versatile in the little sportspal !
I have a question - I ordered the bow (larger) seat for my seatless Radisson. I want to use my 12pt as a solo canoe. Is there any problem reversing the direction of the seat (instead of the canoe itself) so it's on the opposite side of the crossbar instead of paddling the canoe backwards? In theory it should fit the same right? It's symmetrical? I have to get a pop rivet hand tool I guess. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Thoughts?
@infie no problem at at the brackets need to be bent to match the hull shape anyway. You can swap the rivets out for bolts if that is something you would choose
What's the pill bottle looking thing with the white lid inserted into the seat bottom? I recently bought a used Radisson and it came with 3 foamers. Weird little seats - maybe mostly for rowing and kids I'm thinking. Anyway, what's with the bottle insert? Put your car keys in it or what? Haha. Cheers!
@infie you're on the right track. Back in the day it was just for a little storage items ie. Matches, fishing line ect. Keys would be a good one too. Some reason they still make with it.
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal Huh! That's pretty neat actually.
Is Adthane only in Canada? Seems like it. There are other marine sealants, but Adthane is the one? Just making sure. I'd rather not pay 20 bucks in shipping to get it shipped to the states. Thanks kindly.
@infie Other products may work. There is a distributor in New York State Kenco Outfitters, he has most parts available and ships anywhere
Misleading title for sure. How many came for the canoe with the 12 foot transom?
I love this canoe, Hyde Park NY
Hilarious lmao!
Great job.
Can I remove middle bar an install flat bar to accommodate Scotty asscessories ?
Great video on insulation of Yoke 👍‼️…….
What’s best installation for rod holders on Sports pal canoe
@PoliceMods I think scotty makes one that attaches to the thwart, giving side to side variations. I typically just stick my rod down beside my web seat. So I guess I don't help much with this question. If you find one that works well let us know.
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal Can I remove middle bar in exchange for flat bar to accommodate the accessories
@@PoliceMods If you have web seats installed, no problem. If you're just swapping the bars, no problem. Just don't want to remove the rigidity at the gunnel other than that options are many
Musky!!!
mouse or rat pattern
Amazing work!
It came with those awful foam seats too. We just installed 2 webbed bench seats and nylon strap carry handles(took plastic handles off and used pieces of our ratchet strap.
We bought a used 12', double pointed not too long ago. It has the dark camo green color(i believe they call it drab green...lol). If you're alone, it is recommended to sit in the front seat and paddle it "backwards" for better stability.
Don't be fooled by the last part of this video. I bought the same Sportspal motor mount for my 14' pointed Sportspal canoe. I put a Suzuki DF2.5hp gas outboard on it. Only with 1/3 of throttle, the mount began to deform. Even in this video at 1:46, you can see the motor shaft is no longer vertical but lower side inclines towards the hull of the canoe. And according to the speed of the canoe, I bet the throttle is only a bit above the idle. In short: this kind of motor mounts are designed for 30-40lbs electric trolling motors, not for gas engines.
🔥🔥🔥 this is Awesome! I just subscribed!
Good morning I recently purchased a 12 foot canoe looks similar to a sports pal but it’s a manaqua I marked the ribs and remove the liner to do a complete re-seal is there a starting point on installing the ribs from one end to the other or middle out and also what would the spacing be I marked all the ribs The marks don’t line up from side to side left to right could be up to 2 inches kick back on one side
@ralphmoises3555 I would start at the thwart bars and space ribs 6" apart, split the difference at the center of the bar and work your way out to the ends. Good luck with the refurbishment
Great video! I inherited a Sportspal from my Dad that first belonged to my Grandpa. I have a little water coming in and now I can use your video to patch it. Great job!
Oh God. 😨 yeah the pants seem to be a must
Very helpful. Thanks!
What sealant are you using? I'm going to be buying a sports pal canoe soon, and I'm watching your videos if I ever need to do repairs.
@mryotahead it's adthane marine sealant. It has a shelf life of 1 year, so I wouldn't buy it ahead of time. Thanks for looking at the channel cheers 🍻
Awesome video.. these restoration videos gave me the confidence to work on my old gal.. #3912.
I have my grandfathers old square stern SportsPal in the backyard. It needs new wood on the transom and the floatation foam/fenders replaced, the interior foam is in pretty good shape since it's usually keel up on some sawhorses. The keel and gunnels are in good shape, and it does hold water (in if I leave it right side up). He got it in the late 1970's if I remember right, or possibly the early 80's.
Good review,I have a Kopapa and was considering selling it. I may just keep it😉 after watching this video
The will find away!!
Nice work! How to you do the fake wood grain?
@DodgeMan360 thanks it's actually just a homemade roller with bent washers for stripes. Goofy looking thing
What are your thoughts on the sportspal copycats like Mohawk. Can you use the same materials on them, such as ribs and sponsons? Awesome videos by the way. Wish I knew a long time ago how a little elbow grease could spruce up old sportspals, gave away a couple ruff looking ones back then.
@@csab2010 I think they're absolutely fine and have put our ribs, liners, and sponsons on them with minimal difference between them and Sportspals.
Sent BW Marine an email, haven't heard back. What's the cost of a new set of sponsons, foam liner and a tube of Adthane in Canada? Also need them shipped to Nova Scotia.
@DodgeMan360 there is a warehouse called Baywood East that can save you a ton on shipping. There number is 506 328 1220. They will be able to get anything you need as well
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal That's perfect, thank you!
I just got a 14ft pointed 2 weeks ago and older 3.5hp motor very light motor now some one was telling me to get a a electric trolling motor just in case but some else told me just get a 1.2 to 1.5 hp gas outboard motor too is better and cheaper cuz good batteries aren't cheap what do you recommend get a second motor electric or smaller 1.2hp gas motor thanx cheers i hope next year i get one like that flat on the back
@razah2339 the larger motor can bend the motor mount, it's only aluminum and has limits. On a wide transom there's no issues on weight, but the pointed model with the aluminum mount is the weakest point. 1.5 hp would be no issue though
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal Thanx I guess I'll used the factory aluminum motor mount for the 1.2hp second motor when I get it and I'll build me a stronger motor mount form metal square or some old angle Iron bed frame for the 3.5hp viking motor lol should be stronger Thanx Cheers
Sweet baby Jesus , I do love you sharing your knowledge on these sportspal canoe repairs/upgrades etc!
@shyamlynn243 thank you for tagging along
Always easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask permission😁 Looking forward to the refurb videos👍
What kind of a canoe is it, I just bought the Same one.
@darcygearey5453 I believe it's either a Maniqua or Mohawk. Hopefully I see some markings when I rip off the paint
Why didn't you put any sealant in between the layers when you sandwiches them together? Honest question, not a criticism.
@nathanscheuman4263 no problem , great question I like drilling and screwing without sealant as it makes a dandy mess flying around. It does get sealed inside and out, and to put in between is basically up to whoever is installing the repair kit. I have had more than my share of that stuck to me.
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspalfair enough:)
leave him in the dog house, but follow along this will be good
I always learn a lot from your videos so I hope you are going to document the refurb on RUclips. I just bought a 39 year old Sportspal for $100. It had nearly no dents but all the foam needed replaced. I thought that was a steal of a price until I started the refurb. After lifting the old foam it revealed pretty bad corrosion on the floor of the canoe in a few spots. Pits probably half was through the aluminum sheet metal. To halt the corrosion I wire wheeled, primed and painted the interior of the boat. Then filled the canoe with a few inches of water and found slow leaks on the nose and tail center ridge just as it ramps upward. I bought some 3M 5200 marine sealant to fix the leaks. Now I have to order the new foam which runs around $450 USD shipped for everything (2 seats, sponsons, liner). I'm going to try to reuse the ribs although it was suggested they should be replaced due to their age. $12 a piece x 23 if the ribs need replaced. If you enjoy the labor, it's a nice project refurbing these boats. If it needs new foam and you are short on free time I suggest buying a new boat. After seeding how this aircraft aluminum can corrode I don't think I'll be taking this Sportspal into salt water.
If it’s not a Sportspal then what is it? Looks like a fun refurb can’t wait to follow along.
A Radisson canoe.
@TC-hl1ws not a Radisson will be looking for a name under the multiple paint layers
Beautiful job
How can I put an anchor trolley on this canoe .
@jamesdean-q1f never used one however if one were to drill any holes for hardware they shou make sure to only drill through the gunwale parts of the canoe.
Thanx Dave..I'll do with out..not a fan of putting holes in my canoe..lol..
still can't figure out what the piece of foam is for? Got a repair kit but nothing said on instructions or video re foam piece.
@davehall338 ya the foam is almost useless in the repair kit. Only for someone who hacks a chunk out of the liner to put the patch in. Sounds goofy but it happens enough to stick some foam in the kit. I agree with lack of instructions, I'm the guy who gets to answer the questions on the phone, so I decided videos are the trick
Is it safe to go on big lakes deep waters with a 3 to HP outboard motor in Ontario Canada or can I get away with a 4hp or would I get a ticket cuz Max hp canoe says 3hp Thanx good video cheers
@razah2339 safety basically boils down to water conditions and experience. If the take is rough I stay off. Probably no ticket for 1 hp over however liability issues if something was to go bad. 3hp pushes just fine in my opinion
@@GettenanyOutdoorsSportspal Thanx a lot I never thought of liability issues just in case something goes bad it makes sense appreciate replying back cheers is it legal in Canada to have your canoe hanging out back your truck that much cheers I'll subscribe to ur chanel thsnx
@razah2339 after 4 feet stickinh out, it needs a red flag on the end
Is it illegal in Canada to put a 5hp on it?
It is above the coast guard recommendations. Not sure if that can get one in trouble. I shall look into it a little bit more. Thanks
