Man you need someone to hold the camera. I was getting sea sick from all the jerking around.
Hi can you tell me what power and speed you use when engraving, I have a 20w xtool D1 pro and how many passes. Many thanks.
@@andyhexter6807 with a 20 watt. You will burn 100 percent power. I did 90. I did one pass, but my friend has a 20 watt and does 2 or 3 and moves kind of slow.
Sorry but are the pens you are using permanent markers or paint pens, I could nit hear properly for the music.
@@andyhexter6807 oil based sharpies are best.
Nice work but you need to have someone shoot the video while you do your thing. Made me nauseous with all the shaking/movement. And cut out the music.
Love the cargo blankets for insulation... also, semi-retired, here.... on disability. gonna build out a little place in ours to sleep with a twin mattress, I think.... not sure.... but maybe two twins, or some nonsense... IDK.
This is a great process. Thank you! The music is a little much. 😊
Music overrides your voice making it difficult to hear what you’re saying
Well done.
For us who are not native English speakers it would be easier without music, it is a bit to loud. Otherwise thank you for sharing, really appreciated.
Do those retainer clips push to release or pull to release?
They pry outward. Toward the inside of the machine.
Great video. I am trying this first time. We’re your Sharpies paint pens or regular markers?
Sharpie oil based markers.
Awesome video, very informative thank you for sharing ; )
Mike did you just use masking tape to engrave on the tiles? They look great!
Yes.
@mikeamy498 awesome I'll have to try that. Thanks for the great video.
What Pens are you using?
I use oil based sharpy now
Trying to watch this video for more than 30 seconds, gave ne the worst seasickness/nausea. Do you have a sponsorship with Dramamine, or other motion-sickness drugs?
Well then don't watch it, duh! It's that simple.
Thank you! I been dreading cleaning my GF. This will make it soooo much easier!
How do clean off the ink?
When it sits a bit, alcohol will remove all ink from the glazed portion of the tile.
@@mikeamy498 thanks. I did one this morning two colours and just used elbow grease.
That's a lot of grease. 😆 I hope your next one is easier.
Love those tiles! Just curious what kind of paint pens you used? And what are your settings? Speed, Power, lines per inch and how many passes? Thanks for sharing. You truly inspired me! Sorry for asking alot;)
The settings are: speed 625, power 90, LPI 195 to 225 depends on how deep I need the burn. I am currently using colored sharpies. The paint pens faded to easily when coasters were wash tested. The sharpie ink does much better.
@@mikeamy498 Thank you for your fast response and they info. Happy crafting!
cool pen trick@@mikeamy498 , how many watts is your laser? is the speed 625mm/min
Two questions: 1) What material are you using for the Masking on the tiles, and 2) I saw that the Elmers Paint Pens that your using are Acrylic Paints and that in your comments you said that you've changed to the Sharpie brand. But are you using the Oil based or Water based Sharpie's ?
The masking I use I get from Amazon. The brand, is, Vinyl Ease. It is a double pack 12 inches X 100 feet. About $24 last time I purchased. It's been a while as I purchased four packs. The sharpies I use come from the local office supply, colored ink pens. But I do think they are oil. Not in the shop today, so it would be later before I cam look. Hope this helps.
Did you do the fan on the back side of tube?
Yes. It is very important to keep it clean as you can so you have max airflow and also to help minimize odors from the burn. If you are speaking of the air assist back and under the gantry, I also clean that, but not as often as I do the exhaust fan.
Do you seal the painted tile? I have tried to seal with different things and the red bleeds
Did not seal. I am using ink now. The paints hold for a while, but if used a lot it tends to fade out. The sharpie ink is amazing. Try that.
Very nice. Looks great. I have done the white paint on the tiles and it works wonderfully, so now I need to try this. I understand I need to cut a bit deeper for the color to fill in the cut. Smart. Thanks for sharing.
what paint pens are you useing?
The pens I used in this video are Painters brand. I now use colored Sharpie's. Over time, the paint faded more than the sharpie did, so I changed. I still use paint pens on projects that won't be subjected to moisture and the coaster get pretty wet. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Did you or have checked the coolant level?
No, is that a thing to do?
Very nice, thank you!
Very helpful video. I have to replace my circuit board and this will make it much easier. I’ll do a deep clean once it’s opened up. Mine is embarrassingly dirty after seeing yours. 😊
Did yours start acting up before the board went out or did it just quit?
@@mikeamy498 it was working fine, then the next time I turned it on it got stuck in focusing and the arm with the laser on it wouldn’t move.
@@SleepWithCJ yesterday, mine got stuck several times on focusing and after restarting the machine, unplugging for 5 minutes then signing out of GF app and back in, it worked fine for several hrs while loading many different projects of one and two piece designs. Never messed up again. Was pretty odd and guzzling. Are you going to replace your board yourself or? What is the cost of doing that replacement?
@@mikeamy498 I'm going to replace it myself. Seems pretty plug and play. I'm frustrated with it and I won't do a $4700 replacement for my pro - I'll just get something else where I don't have to pay monthly to use it too.
@@SleepWithCJ I agree, 100 percent. How much was the board to replace?
I love it. Nicely done. Safe travels
How does the laser burn into the white surface ....does it have to be on full power got 15 wat diode and no result....was on corian tile though found vynl burns ok on to corian if you just burn outline smells a bit though
It's more or less just cutting through the glazing on the tile. When using a mask, I end up with a gray tint to the engraved area. These tiles are ceramic from home improvement big box store. Would suggest to put on full power and adjust speed to get desired outcome.
Love that design. Did you make it? Where can I find it?
I purchased that one. Designbundle.net. I think it's in category, deer mandala. If you cannot find it, hit me up and I will pull that file so you can find it.

Lol. Yeah I don't know what I was thinking. But thanks for pointing that out.
Thank you for the tour. Cargo blankets on walls and ceiling were brilliant. They looked nice and aren't too expensive. Hope you two are doing well.
What paint pens do you use please?
The pens I used in the video, are, Elmers paint pens.
@@mikeamy498 Thanks buddy. Enjoyed the video :)
Just saw your video, thanks for showing us! Can you tell me when you mask? Are you using just regular masking tape? Or do you use something special? I am trying to engrave tile and get the gray that you show on this video. I have tried painters tape and it actually engraves black. Thanks for your help!
I mask before I engrave. This is the tape I use to get the gray. I know it says not for use with laser cutters or engravers and I don't understand why, but I have used it for two plus years with nor issues. But I never leave the machine unattended. Thanks for watching. I hope this helps. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DF7TDSF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@mikeamy498 The reason it is not laser safe is because it's vinyl transfer tape and is toxic to burn. With a good exhaust system like you have I see no issue but if the person isn't venting their exhaust outside, it can be very bad to breathe in. Excellent video BTW. I have a client that wants blue tiles engraved and white paint over the engraving. Never have done any tile engraving so I'm watching videos like yours. Apparently, my client wants to use the tiles in the bathroom around the top of the shower as their trim tile. You said in the video putting clear coat on the tile will dull the finish. I'm concerned the paint would bleed or fade exposed to water and humidity. You happen to have any advice by chance?
@@mr2miach unless using an oil base paint would hold up under those conditions, I'm not sure if any advice I could provide would help. I have never tested that scenario. I have put some in a dishwasher and the paints did fade, but acrylic paint held up the best. Oil based paint can be applied the same way I did it in the video and the excess can also be scraped off with a razor. If you perform this test, please drop me a reply here to share the results. Good luck!
@@mikeamy498 Thanks for the reply. Will keep you posted. Thanks to your video I have a better understanding of what to expect and didn't even consider using the dishwasher as test for paint durability. That's an excellent test method. That helps a lot! Thanks again.
@@mr2miach The dishwasher at first was to see if the coasters would hold up to washing and wiping them.
Do you still expedite?
No. We have a family situation that requires us to be home.
Like the video but music just a bit to loud, I can barely hear what your saying
Thanks for the feedback. Must need information about tje music that not many will share... Thanks, again for watching.
You, fine Sir, are a miracle worker! You have no idea the stress I’ve endured the past 48 hrs. My plus wouldn’t focus after a print and my warranty is up. So I started by cleaning it thoroughly and in the midst of that tedious task, I broke a fan blade on the exhaust. FYI, if you need an exhaust replacement, don’t search glowforge exhaust fan replacment as you will get no where. You need the actual fan model # and I only found a few suppliers. Anyways, I stumbled across your video and I managed to remove the cover (thanks too you) and give it the proper cleaning it needed while removing and gluing the fan back together. Once reassembled, I immediately started a print and everything finished up just as it should! You saved me hundreds if not a few thousand $’s and I’m forever grateful. LIKED and SUBSCRIBED! Thank you!
So glad it helped you. Let us know how that glued fan blade hold up. Thanks for the sub.
Great Video! You need to make house calls :). I'm going to give it a try this weekend. Mine sounds like a jet taking off when it starts up
Thanks, for watching. Good luck! You can do it.
This is exactly what I was looking for! I am anal about cleaning my lenses/lid camera lens after every 3rd board just to be safe and make sure that nothing is obstructing the eye beam. Was trying to take off the left side but seemed like the clips were flimsy so haven't tried and just used a soft paintbrush and compressed with my inline on full power to suck any extra dust out. My carriage plate gets cleaned monthly and I'm trying to get it done weekly. So afraid of having a fire due to a little piece of scrap getting caught in the fans! Great video and so helpful, really appreciate you taking the time to show us!
It was fun Thanks for looking and I'm glad it was helpful.
Great Video. Just have to let you know my wife and I are Mike and Amy. You posted this on December 15th. That's my birthday. Thanks for the info.
Wow! That's cool. Thanks for watching.
What paint pens are you using mine still shows the darkness from the engraving. When I scrape the paint come with mostly
I use several, but the pens I used in this video are called, "Painters" marker. That is the name brand. If you slow your speed or burn hotter, the engrave will be deeper and when running the razor across the tile, you should miss the paint inside the lines.
Does masking tape work better than white spray paint when it comes to edging? From your experience
Have not use white spray paint. I mask the tiles all the time. Sometimes to get the gray tint to the engraved areas, but even if those areas are going to be painted I use mask to keep the laser beam from reflecting back into the laser head. If that happens, it could be bad.
How are you burning directly to the tile?
With the laser engraver.
I couldn't even see the fins on mine lol. Just kidding, it was 10x worse for sure and it was starting to make a bit of grinding noises but from the looks of it, you can source this fan as needed, the hard part is installing that fan back, those two bottom bolts are a pain.
For sure a major pain. I hope I don't need to replace it, but I'm glad to know we can get them. Thanks for watching.
Nice set up.
very well done!
Is a CDL required to be a expeditor? I just have regular drivers license and I won’t pay a school several thousands to get one. Besides, I’m getting older I’m 66 now but bored as heck sitting around all day every day. Instead it would be great to expedite on a part time thing. Is that possible? Oh and I like your van setup!
Hi Bob. No, CDL is not required by law to expedite in a van. Fedex requires CDL so they can force random drug screen. That requirement is the carrier's policy for vans. Most will not ask you to obtain CDL to expedite in Van.
Would you share the file for the tile holder for the laser
When I get to my computer I will look for it. I know I have it because I cut it, but I only did it once and do not remember where I put it.

I’m 62 and counting. My wife and I are empty nesters. If I can get her to come out on the road with me, we may become “lazy expediters” after I run hard for a few years.
