I had no idea some of you owner operators had to make a business plan and apply for a loan. That’s new to me. I saved up 20 percent of my income as I was working for a company. As soon as I had enough to pay for my truck I became an owner operator. Used my credit cards as fuel money to run 2 weeks until bank released first check. So you get a loan and what happens if your truck breaks? Do you apply for a second loan? It’s not all profit at 1st. If you play your cards right you don’t need a loan and you can grow very quickly the less debt you throw on yourself. I have 3 trucks and 4 trailers now. Started off with one truck and a leased trailer.

Who financed you, company name?

You came very close to getting the information right but I believe it's not exactly as you state. A sole propreitor has no protections as the business and the person are not legally separate. But when it comes to an LLC, S Corp or C corp, the business is considered legally a separate entity from the individual that owns the business. The assets of the business are considered separate from the personal assets of the individual. So any assets the owners put into the business, any assets the business buys, and profits the business makes, are at risk if something goes seriously wrong. If the business goes under, or is sued, only those assets of the business are at risk. Personal assets are not at risk. Unless of course you sign a personal guarantee. So if you form an LLC, S corp or C corp, the assets of the business only are at risk should something go wrong, your buildings, equipment, cash accounts inventory etc, but never the legally separate personal assets of the individuals that own the business. Unless you sign a personal guarantee which overrides those protections.

Sorry to hear this, that blows. New truck owner here, also finding out warranty aint all that its cracked up to be. I chose to buy a new truck because i needed the peace of mind of having the warranty during the initial stages of building my business but i now realize i was being a bit naive. This is how one learns i guess , good luck with everything
