As a systems engineer and having worked along side many devops teams I see a couple issues. One the orgs I have been part of put too much on them when we are still there and are pretty capable of helping with these tasks. Two way too many devops team will do all this work and not really ask for our help and then complain about what they have on their plate. Devops teams should be working along side the Saas teams and admins to make this all work and so no one is doing more than they have too.

Thanks for the video. I'm going from IT support to cloud. This stuff is actually really cool and I look forward to studying and learning every day. So I guess that's a good sign. Looking to get into development and data engineer side of things. I'm happy to continue in a support role within the cloud to start though, like a support engineer would be great I enjoy helping users. It's so nice not having to deal with physical infrastructure. I've been dealing with it for YEARS.

I'm a 37-year-old help desk tech aiming to transition into development or DevOps. My workplace uses Microsoft and C#. Should I stick with Azure since it's offered at my job, or should I pursue AWS? I have been a software engineer for over 10 years but this week I'll be starting a course in DevOps. I think at this stage of my career, learning about the infrastructure side of things will be beneficial and it seems that the industry may be moving more favourable toward infrastructure.

Thank you for this video- I am a project manager for the past 7 yrs and now transitioning into DevOps and this was a great video with excellent advise for someone getting into DevOps.

What really bothers me about DevOps is that it's not uncommon to hire a "junior engineer" with nothing to their name but an AWS cert, who is then delegated authority over seasoned and experienced engineers and administrators to build things that they don't understand. The problem with DevOps is that it's a shortcut that exists to handle widespread inexperience and incompetence. It has not been proven worthy of this purpose.

Kindly let us know what to freelance in devOps doesn't hold some weight in freelance domain?

I passed CCP exam in February 2024, and since Late April I started preparing for Developer Associate. One thing I struggle the most with is consistency. I work a non-tech role and want to switch to Cloud & Devops eventually, I hope that I become more consistent in studying rather than the bursts of studying that way I can complete this course and pass the certification exams.

Sounds like a good step forward for me being in a Kubernetes support role as learing is pretty much my second nature.

I completely agree with that reddit post at 2:35. The drive to teach yourself is one of the most crucial skills for cloud beginners. I mentor a lot of cloud beginners who and I'm always surprised when they say they need someone to hold their hands and keep them accountable. My thought is always you should be self motivated and be willing to think outside the box to be successful in this industry Thanks for the quality video :)

I am working in good leading mnc in india.. and I got placed in 2021.. but then I got only azure devops related work like pipelines , spn secrets renewal task.. now I am completing 2.9 yrs here.. but my main job was .net dev .. now what should I do ? Should I go and continue in devops work ? Or should I go for .net role ? I feel both are time taking work.. no work life balance.. what should I do😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I felt like going towards data analytics may be good.. but chatgpt and other saturation things in that field made it tough to get jobs after certain experience.. what should I do ! Please please please please please help me... Please....if I get good guidence I will atleast reduce my overthinking and will work.. currently I m learning azure platform and docker ... Please suggest me what should I' do.. my interest wasn't IT but due to family background and need of money I started working here.

Devops by itself is comprised of many fields. I always tell my friends in networking that they should reinvent themselves as soon as possible since the legacy network engineer is going to dissappear soon (only big organizations with private DC will have jobs for them). Devops is a good direction, but for network people you should really aim for SRE or cloud infrastructure

DevOps isn't an "entry level" job. It's where you go after you've been something like a junior developer and/or junior sysadmin moving up the career ladder. It is more of a mid-to-senior position just like how SRE isn't an entry level position either, it is where you go as you move up from a junior position. Nothing wrong with that. After all you don't get your MD and skip being a junior doctor and become a consultant or registrar either. I was doing DevOps before we called it DevOps. I was a hybrid developer and sysadmin within the company. Then we moved to cloud services rather than on-prem or self-managed data centre based servers. I was a senior system administrator and then a Solution Architect for a large blue chip company when we reorganised the titles and we renamed positions to the more modern titles of SRE and DevOps Engineer, etc. So the reality is a DevOps Engineer/SRE is the "new" title of a Senior System's Administrator/Integration Specialist with production ownership and responsibilities, etc. Not things you would put on a junior employee straight out of college.

Devops isn't an entry level position, same as cyber security. Hence no entry level jobs
