Lots of freight hadn't been activated today. I went for the Rail Adventure HST, nice to send them with a small rake of coaches. The Network Rail Dog Box was a surprise. Apart from that, a few freights but I left about 1pm.

This is the third time I've tried to upload this video, so, this is it. I missed a video of the 69, so there's a photo. The last two clips are at Sandy waiting for the Black 5 to go through. Enjoy!!

I don't think I've ever beenso hot taking videos at a station. I forgot to take my microphone, doh! Nice to see the Colas 37 and 56, great tones from the 56. I did miss 37418 though, say it from the train going up and I saw it from the train going down. Cheers

Today was spent a few hours at Peterborough station. Good to see quite a few 'younger' spotters/photographers there. Sorry for showing clips of the Class 91's, I love the 'celebrity' locos, one of which, For the Fallen was on an ECS trip. For me, the Class 69 pulling wagons was the best moment for me. Had I not seen 57306 dragging some 379's two days before, that would have been right up with t...

I've had a few problems with my PC lately so the late sleeper encoraged me to take a clip of it going south at Sandy station this morning 1Mi6 Inverness to london Euston 93028 late 135 minutes. Whilst there, the Colas/Network Rail Video Inspection Unit (VIU2) 153376 2Q11 Peterborough West Yard - Kings Cross was positioned in the sidings. The only rub was that the coffee bar wasn't open!

The video starts at Bletchley, the obligatory Freightliner 66, the Marson Vale Class 150 and a track machine. It was going to be a great day....I didn't know what was going to happen. A fantastic sight of a Colas 37 taking a Class 70 and Class 56 to Westbury (full tones) and a Colas test rain t&t Class 37's (slight tones). Just about lunchtime things startied to happen. Sir Nigel Gresley at Sandy Station 2.3.24

It was a horrible, miserable, wet morning but I decided to go to my local station to saw Sir Nigel. There were lots of people there when it arrived, most we huddled in the ticket entrance. My, in my infinite wisdom, I went over the bridge to get onto the southbound platform. Looked at Railcam and thought I would pass through before the express came south.....oh now, how wrong was I, got bowled ...

On a sunny day, at that time of day, it's a beggar to get a good clip without the sun ruining it. I should have gone onto the northbound platform, probably the sun would have affected the clip but the smoke from the southbound platform obliterate the coaches. Anyway, for what...

Having been some decorating, I decided to have a day out with my camcorder. I contacted Malcolm Crabbe and we arranged to meet up on Platform 4. It was cold, wet and windy and I got bowled twice, once by an Azuma and a LNER staff member. On top of that the ECML was having a signal failure north of Peterborough...you couldn't make it up. I wanted to wait for the Loram 37 but my feet were freezin...

Ha de ser.muy agradable viajar en un tren de esos
Great set of clips Tony with plenty of interest - and very well put together.
@MK-1973 Thanks, but boy, was it quiet.
Hi Tony, Awesome 😊. I'm going tommow as I've not been spotting here for a while.
@@jaynepeters1839 I hope you have a lovely day
@@tonyg1071 thank you. It's going to be a warm one so I thought I'll go and chill at Peterborough.
@jaynepeters1839 Take some water with you😀
@@tonyg1071 thank you. I have got 2 liters to take. One is in the freezer 😊.
Nice variety of locos..👍
Yes, thanks
Despite the conditions and the unlucky bowling, a good record of the day. Good to meet you at PBO today (8th Aug).
@rjathomas2990 Thanks Richard. Maybe see you again in the future. All best
Shame it was on the Slow line and speed limited. Shame about the Diesel pushing. Otherwise OK.
I thought I heard a whistle yesterday! Thanks for sharing:)
Thanks
I completely forgot she was running through our patch today - Thanks for sharing... Oh, have you still got the mic gain up a little - sounded loud ?
@@MalcolmCrabbe Thanks. Nope, the mic gain is set at ‘normal’
👍 Enjoyed that - nice to see the Hastings DEMU doing the rounds again
Thanks, I should have gone to Biggleswade though.
Lovely stuff Tony! Here's my effort for the HDL ruclips.net/video/8tWtTLpbsdg/видео.htmlsi=ExVdZHhJ4uVJW2UX - needless to say yours is better! Interesting that it came through Biggleswade on the fast line but was on the slow by the time it got to you. I saw the return leg too at Furzenhall Lane - didn't manage to video it, but it looked lovely from across the fields. I don't know about the HST I'm afraid. I was intrigued seeing the two power cars at the front. It was running with air conditioned mk 2s so maybe they're not wired up the same as mk 3s to enable running a power car at either end? Hope all's well. Take care.
Hastings at Sandy at 9.51 going north on Saturday
Nice one Tony. I think the Hastings diesel might be heading up our way on June 8th - it's a tour to Boston and Skegness with the outbound route at least via the ECML. Hope all is well with you.
I see the Rail Adventure HST is supposed to be on the ECML on the 8th, too
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice to meet up again... Must make sure we book some decent weather next time 🙂
Looks like you had a great day... How's the decorating coming along ? 🙂
Cheers, one word, slowly!1
Thanks for sharing Tony. At least it was a 5 car Azuma rather than a 9 car... :)
Good thought
Could have been worse... could have been a slow moving freight...Good catch, and dedication.... I was still fast asleep when it went through !!
I wish I’d have stayed in bed
Great video! I saw her departing London Kings Cross.
Well done and thanks for sharing
Great action packed video Tony! The exhaust only adds to the atmosphere. I heard a whistle from home here in Biggleswade and wondered what it was. The engine looks beautiful - I'm less sure about maroon for air conditioned Mark 2s, but I suppose that's being unfair. Hope all's well with you.
Thank you, remember, next Saturday it is A4 Sir Nigel.
LOL - at least the fog had lifted. Seen a video from a point just north of Stevenage and the fog was just as bad as the smoke ! - Tony, it was a worthy effort... sadly I was still fast asleep when it went through.
It was nice to meet up again... I wonder if we will ever do a day at Peterborough without signal failures, broken down trains or OHLE issues... we seem to be cursed every time we go there !! Nice shots of the early stuff 👍
Boy, is it moving !!!! 😳
Why are "brake cars" used? The T66 locomotives in Sweden have/had Knorr brake valves. Original T66 Westinghouse brake valves were not certified for -40 degrees so they were replaced with Knorr valves. Has there been a return for Westinghouse in England?
Great reply. I'm sorry but I don't know the answer. There might be someone on YT who might be able to answer your question. Best wishes TonyG
The whole look is spoiled by the diesel on the end😢
I defo need a hair cut !! - 🙂 - It was nice to meet up again... Next time I'll buy the coffee's 👍
Ok, cheers
Happy Christmas & New Year Tony, thanks for all the videos!
@@MK-1973 Thanks M
Beautiful...thank you
Thank you for your comment
So good to see these old ladies showing they can still 'walk the walk' and show the opposition a clean pair of heels!
Love it Tony!
I thank you
High speed train.Beautifully.😮😊😊
Impressive
Maybe one of you Brit's can help out an ignorant yank. But when you say "At speed" Just how fast are we talking here? Cause by my eye those old girls are screaming along at what looks to be 70/80 mph.
Hey wait a min, were they cheating by having a diesel loco pushing them?..;)
heat and electrics for the carriages but don't quote me.
Wow. Hopefully there is one helper at the end. With that much weight. It is needed I think to start and in a grade. 12 carriages
Great
You Brit's don't know how fortunate you are to have mainline steam like this!
There's still something hugely impressive about mainline steam engines going full tilt. I think it's because we can see the raw power, see much of what drives them with the connecting rods going like the clappers, the huge driving wheels and the steam belching so that it sometimes feels like a living, breathing behemoth. Modern trains have so much of their inner workings hidden from view so we don't see how impressive they can be other than when it comes to sheer speed.
You are correct
Was that diesel unit pushing or was it being towed?
I think it provides heat and electrics for the carriages but don't quote me.
@@tonyg1071I do believe it's also insurance in case of a steam failure. Don't forget these are grand old ladies.
Whatever, it would sure look better without it.
Nice 🎥 Love the speed of it. Greeting from the contenant. Monster on the other side off North Sea on the coast off the Netherlands. 🇳🇱 🚂
Thank you Erik
Thanks for sharing this video, I saw them at Finsbury Park
You are most welcome
I assume the 47 was there as an anchor to hold it back?
I’m not sure David, maybe it’s there because there’s no turntable at the end of the trip.
Or is it there to keep the carriages warm?
That was very good Tony. I'm impressed with your camera the way it compressed the opening shot but kept everything in focus as you zoomed out. I have a lot of fond memories from Sandy dating back to the late 1950's.
Thank you for kind comment. It’s the cam that does all the work, I just point and shoot.
Who controls the diesel, and for where? Ric 🦘
The Diesel is being towed, it's there to provide electrical power to the carriages which the steam engine cannot do.
@kevinh96 Thanks for that. I wondered about the lights in the carriages. So, are you saying that the diesel is not helping by pushing. Some of the trains seem exceptionally long for a steam loco? Ric 🦘
Steam locos can pull long trains on relatively flat routes, it's Shap & Ais Gil that are the problem gradients, the Royal Scots,Jubilees & the Duchess locos were built for these routes Black 5's were the class 37's the Scots Jubilees & Duchesses were the class 55's
It could go even faster without having to tow that lump of a diesel electric behind!
😂
Steaming at a lick with heavy loads. Impressive.
It
They certainly were, lively sights.
Oh yes
Absolutely wonderful sight to bring back nostalgic memories of my train spotting days in the late 50's and early 60's, so nice to see two Black 5's at speed.
I'm with you on that
Somebody once said there is only one thing better than a black 5 that's 2 of them
Awsome😊
Thank you

11 coaches and a 47 plus 12 coaches and a 47...impressive?😀
Usual 10 or 11 on these rail tour trains. Impressive, yes, the smoke was phenomenal.
