Sleep Number air mattress pump not working, quick fix using tubing and a vehicle schrader valve
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
We tried to come up with a method for repairing a sleep number pump that would no longer pump air into the air mattress. This method can be used on any air mattress. Note: The pressure in the air mattress is less than 1 psi. A reading of 27.7 on the 0 - 30 CW gauge (Column of Water - in inches) equals 1 psi. Our final setting of 8 on the 0 - 30 CW gauge is about 0.29 psi.

      The shrader valve will release its air by pressing down on the small center pin/valve. I can sometimes accomplish this with the shrader valve cover or a small tool like a screw driver.

    Good improvising to get the bed up and running again without spending a ridiculous amount of money on a new pump from Sleep Number. Title or description isn't really clear- this is not "fixing" the pump- it's actually replacing it with an improvised air system.

    Thank you for solving a frustrating mystery for me. Many years ago I picked up a couple of those combiners but I never knew what they were. I have a TV in one of the bedrooms that has one of those cheap flat style antennas that picks up only UHF channels. It is a spare bedroom and I just wanted some kind of programming and with a signal amplifier it picked up 48 stations which was pretty good because the other TVs that are hooked up to a different antenna get 59 stations. After you explained that the piece was a combiner and how it worked it gave me an idea. I have an old set of rabbit ears and an adaptor that turns the old flat cable into a coax connector. I connected the rabbit ears to the low side and the antenna to the high side and I now get 57 channels. The only station it does not receive is a low powered station from a nearby city that I can only receive at night anyway. The other commenter is correct that my combiner is a VHF splitter (AKSA HLSJ) but all I know is it works well enough that it brings in the stations that were missing on this TV that the other TVs were receiving and since it is not used very often I don't see the need for purchasing the correct combiner although I will keep it in mind and if I find the correct combiner in my travels I'll pick it up. Many thanks to you and the other commenter.

    When you test that it's an open or closed thermostat disk with the continuity setting on the meter. When you wiggle it with the probes and the resistance changes did indicate a possible problem,so you got lucky.

    • @HowWeDidIt500
      @HowWeDidIt500 3 года назад

      As long as my probe contact points are a good solid connection, there should be no change to continuity while shaking the thermostat. Very aggressive shaking, like banging the thermostat on an object could cause continuity to change. Lightly shaking the thermostat should see no change in continuity.

    Good video. Quite a nice amplifier setup you have for your antenna system. So I use only one KT-200 COAX and its indeed a very good pre-amp. Obviously they buy the power supplies from somewhere else so they are made in China as you can't make everything. The issue I had with mine is that it was leaking noise all over probably into the cable system and it killed AM radio for my whole and 10ft-15 around the house. But the owner who is very professional sent me a new power supply for free and the new one is quite beefy and works perfect and isn't leaking anymore since AM works fine now. So I am now happy with my pre-amp again. Now if only more people would buy these Kitztech pre-amps but they do cost quite a bit of money when compared with other pre-amps.

    OK. well, I fixed my unit by jumping the thermostat wires while waiting for a part from EBAY. Unfortunatly I shorted the entire unit out AT THE JUMP as it accidently touched the metal casing. QUESTION: by shorting the entire unit out at the jump where the thermostat is - now the unit will not power on past the main power switch (no beep) (no display) - what part of the unit will be affected by this. is the mother board destroyed or should i just replace something else as well. thanks.

    • @mchrysler
      @mchrysler 7 лет назад

      Thanks again for the video and for starting me in the right direction. After Shorting out the entire unit while trying to jump the faulty thermostat. I seem to have destroyed the heater switch/tilt switch relay (black switch with ball on top)that is connected to the main power and the thermostat. While I am waiting for the parts from ebay i have simply bypassed the thermostat plus the switch/tilt switch relay (black switch with ball on top) and it is working fine. so with that said it is quite possible to bypass it all and plug the main power directly into the motherboard bypassing the safety switch and thermostat. Super unsafe. but possible. I am waiting for the parts from ebay and will replace.

      Hi Olimazi, Sorry for my late response. I have been out of town. The issue I was having was intermittent noise from lower frequencies (below UHF band) affecting one of my UHF channels (33). I am located near an industrial area and the TV towers are 62 miles from my house. With a weak TV signal, it does not take much noise to affect a channel. I did another RUclips video ruclips.net/video/XsHv1T7NiW0/видео.html that shows this setup. I did use a ZUVSJ to recombine the signal. I am very satisfied with my setup now:) Thanks for watching.

    That combiner is a VHF com biner. The low side is for an antenna cut for low dand 2 thru 6 and the high side is for a cut channel or 7 thru 13 high band Vhf. You should be using for this application a uvsj uhf/vhf combiner. Tru-spec and aska makes them.

    I have a similar infrared unit made by Westpointe. The problem I am having is that I have not been able to locate the switch part to properly get it to work. The part number is KSD301A-A 120V 16A 110 degrees C. Can you advise me as to where to purchase the part?

  • @extrapilator9119
    @extrapilator9119 8 лет назад

    I've got a comfort zone that shuts down after just a few minutes. I checked the part shown in the video on my CZ2011 and it is rated 16 amps 125v, so I found some on Ebay that match. It took some searching. " 150 °C KSD301 NC Manual Reset Bimetal disc thermostat 16A 125VAC " The heater worked fine for about a month of use, and then began to shut down. I hope this part will be the fix. I read somewhere on amazon that the switch that is installed is a 120C and it should be a 150C. That makes sense, because heaters of this kind should be heating around 300 F on high. By the way, this heater is a monster to work on. I also found a long bulb up front just under the vent that appears to not be working? It doesn't get red.

    • @HowWeDidIt500
      @HowWeDidIt500 8 лет назад

      Hi Extrapilator, I would think all the infrared heating rods would glow when the heater is set on high and the temperature setting is also set high. If that is the case, you may have one that is not working.

    • @extrapilator9119
      @extrapilator9119 8 лет назад

      I agree, but I wonder if this element being so much longer than the others, doesn't get any more power than the smaller ones, consequently, it doesn't have enough power to "glow". This heater is a replica of the Eden pure, and the design on the inside is just like the one in your video, which was very helpful. I had it working again for a week just fine, but today, it has started shutting off again. I think the switch is shorting...

    • @HowWeDidIt500
      @HowWeDidIt500 8 лет назад

      Hi Extrapilator, I would agree that there will be a little more resistance on the longer heating element but I suspect the resistance would be pretty small and you would need a special resistance meter to measure that small difference. An electric stove has heating elements of different lengths and they all glow. Unless the manufacturer is using a different material for the longer heating element, than it may glow differently from the other heating elements.

      Howwedidit500, My part arrived from China, and it is marked "CQC", not "URC US" like the original part unfortunately. On one terminal of the original part, it had turned black from overheating or arching I guess... The part must have been faulty, or rated too low at 120C, which is engraved on one of it's terminals. (I missed this originally, since I didn't pull the leads when I examined it) I installed the new part "KSD301 16A 125 V 150C that I linked to above. The heater runs great, and heats nice and hot without kicking off. I'll update again if I have anymore issues. I still can't tell if the long element is red, but if you feel the outside of the heater in front of it's location, it is warm. I have an infrared laser thermometer on the way, and I am going to test this Comfortzone infrared against a Lifesmart 6 Element large room Infrared heater, and I'll update when I find which one actually heats at the highest temp. It is sad though that a $3 part can make a $200 heater worthless in 2 months.

    • @HowWeDidIt500
      @HowWeDidIt500 8 лет назад

      Hi Extrapilator, I believe the CQC marking on the KSD301 part stands for "China Quality Certification Center " . Since this is a safety thermal switch, the CQC marking may not meet the same safety requirements as the original part. The KSD301 part that I used also had the CQC markings. I did heat the part up with a heat gun and verified that it worked before I put the KSD301, with the CQC marking, in the heater. I agree how a $3.00 part puts a lot of these heaters in the land fill:(

    • @HowWeDidIt500

      Hi xowi, Thanks for watching. The antenna tower is grounded to a an 8 foot ground rod and the RG6 coaxial TV antenna cable has a grounding block near the bottom of the tower that is also connected to the 8 foot ground rod. Is the tower lightening protected is an interesting question since it depends on how much energy is in the lightning bolt. I suspect if the tower took a direct hit there would be some steel and copper that would be vaporized (disappear) and repairs would be required.

    I use photo mailers ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006VPH5G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). They are rigid to protect the DVDs. 2 DVDs in one photo mailer is 3 oz. Recently my local post office has been returning these as needing to pay $13 for parcel postage. A few weeks ago I spent 15 minutes discussing it with the front desk and they agreed it was fine to go as letter mail. Then today they have forgotten about that and say it has to go parcel post again. The front desk person gave one reason after another why it had to be parcel post. It is too big (it wasn't), it is made of cardboard, it contains DVDs which have to be declared to customs. In future I will go to a different post office, where I have had no problems with these, it is just a bit less convenient.

      Hi Peter, I also just recently had a person at the front desk (USPS) that wanted to send my CDs parcel post. I mentioned my discussion that I had with his boss a year ago regarding the non-machineable surcharge and he agreed and let the CD go as a first class letter with a non-machineable surcharge. I hope you have better luck at a different post office.

    Getting ready to do the same. Googled Eagle River as a Kitz supplier, could not find them.

      +Bob Haines Hi Bob, Kitz Technologies is located in Eagle River, WI. Address is "Kitz Technologies, P O Box 1267, Eagle River, WI 54521" Web site is www.kitztech.com/ I have ordered the KT-200 Coax version $79.95 and the KT-500 Coax version $110.00. I have had good luck with both of these amplifiers and I have recommended these amplifiers to my neighbors. The KT-500 may have a little higher noise floor than the KT-200 but I was able to pull in more weaker stations using the KT-500 (set at max gain 36dB) when the weather related issues acted up due the 60+ miles from the TV transmitting stations.

    and may be cousins of our iron bacteria work on planet Mars at hematite blueberries concretions recently discovered there ?

    i think that iron bacteria stuff from our water wells ended some 3500 yrs ago petrified in navajo sandstones Great Canion (their's grand-grand-...dad of our days bacteria...)! I think that is similar to what happen when bog iron is formed in swamps ! I think is similar to sulfide bacteria that forms sulphuric acid on tube ceiling of sewage pipes at about 10 mm/yrs rate of cement corrosion ! And result in catastrophic urban car sink holes after 10-20 yrs sewage cement pipes service ! I am not sure if this bacterias are evil, may be they do a job in "natural purification system of Earth" for us ?

    I have something very similar. Basically looks like yours except for it comes out in big chunks every now and then. Itll be about 1-2" wide by up to 12" long. I cant find any images of it online so not sure what the heck it is! My house isn't hooked up to the well but everything else is and its what I use for the animals.

      Hi Austin, Not sure if you had a chance to look at another video I posted regarding the bacteria in the Flotec water pressure tank ( ruclips.net/video/c8BUP0i_4bI/видео.html ) but this is where my neighbor had the bacteria bloom. The Flotec water pressure tank had a small opening (~ 4 inch diameter but need to remove 6 nuts) that allowed us to get in clean out the bacteria bloom. The water was tested for total coliform with this bacteria present and it passed. I suspect if you are getting large bacteria pieces, I would look at the water pressure tank or maybe the hot water tank. I would expect the large bacteria pieces would be pulverized into small pieces from the paddles in the well pump so the large bacteria pieces are probably not coming from the well/pump. We were not able to find anyone to identify the clear/white slime bacteria. There was likely some iron bacteria present giving this clear/white slime bacteria a orange color on some of the samples. Iron bacteria is more on the microscopic level giving an orange tint in our sinks/tubs in this area. Basically it was getting expensive trying to identify the clear/white slime bacteria so the direction was shock the well (water system) with bleach and move on.

      Actually right at about the 30 second mark on your other video you show the filter and there's some gunk on it that looks exactly like what I'm seeing. I'll see if I can't clean the tank and see if that fixes my issue! Thanks for posting that link!

    I am running into uneducated postal workers on sending an item that weighs 2oz thats rigid to Australia which when calculated should cost $2.21 first class. Even the postmaster at Southport NC Says I cant do it even after going through the online service of calculated postage. So Thank you for your advice as you say I am currently going up the ladder......No wonder the Chinese are knocking it out of the park with export. Cheap postage...We have cheap postage too but its very difficult to get it. Thanks again for the video it has relieved my frustration knowing I am doing the Right Thing. USPS Toll free Complaint line is 1 800 275 8777.....Works quite well actually called me right back and gave me a case number. They also have a small business help line which is 1 877 747 6249.....we should all band together and complain about poorly informed staff at the postal service.

    I Have discovered the same thing having mailed quite a few cds. Anyhow I have not been so lucky as to get a knowledgeable person. You will need patients when going to the post office and a non machinable stamp is recommended. Good luck everyone it is a free tip to share. Thank you and it confirms my actions.

      +Dan Leahy Thanks for commenting Dan. Hopefully you will be able to find a knowledgeable person. If the person at the USPS front desk has been telling their customers with the wrong interpretation, the USPS person at the front desk is not likely to change their non-machinable charge interpretation unless told by there boss.
