Foolish Kitchen, where I spend a lot of time fixing what needs to be fix, showing you how to restore things to usefulness and doing general household experiments so you don't have to. Sometimes it's kitcheny, sometimes it's foodie, sometimes it's whatever I have dragged home.
Foolish Kitchen Knitting Bag Hack (Hedeby Handle)
I adore using wooden frame handle bags for my knitting projects but I hardly ever find them. And when I do, they don't have the strap handle closure. So I am taking the time to add it to this bag I picked up recently.
Examples of these frame handled bags were popular in the 5th through 12th centuries Scandinavia and excavated examples are on display at the Viking Museum Haithabu in Germany. haithabu.de/

Repairing an antique thread spool sewing box
Просмотров 634 года назад
I found this dandy little spool carrier in an antique shop the other day. It has some cracks from drying. So I figured I would fix it with glue using toothpicks. I apologize for the video, I am experimenting with new lighting and new tripod, and that's why I didn't notice my hair getting into the frame. Next time will be better. Cheers.

Graniteware Enamelware Milk Pitcher Restoration
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.4 года назад
I picked up a graniteware milk pitcher recently. It was actually shiny on the inside, very little signs of wear or use. Only the very edge of the rim was chipped and under the lip had a little rust, and a smidgen on the handle. So after a nice spit and polish, I did some experimenting with some Testors model paints to see what happens. Visit Foolishkitchen.com for more content!
Hammering out Dents in a Jelly Roll Pan

Just a snippet to get my feet wet again. Sorry for the delay, I lost the laptop that I use to cut video. But I'm up on the PC again. Fingers Crossed. Took out my frustrations on this Steel Jelly Roll Pan which came with some dents.
Unboxing: 1924 Landers Frary & Clark Electric Tea Kettle

I rarely do an unboxing, but I was so excited to get this vintage item. I didn't even realize I wanted it unti I stumbled on it on ebay. Check it out and see if it works as it did in 1924. For more content check out Foolishkitchen.com
Sealing Chips on Enamelware
Просмотров 6 тыс.5 лет назад
I keep a bottle of clear enamel near my sink for occasions such as this. These are pieces I use everyday, but where the raw steel is showing through the enamel it tends to rust after washing and leave rings on the counter. Here I address that issue. For more content check out FoolishKitchen.com
Going Hunting Ep 3. Black Friday Loot
Просмотров 175 лет назад
It was pretty awkward to shoot video of the actual shopping this time. I got some scowls and jostling. So we only get to see the loot. A friend was visiting over the holiday and we hit a few of the antique shops in Oxford Maine. I came away with a lot of small items which should provide us with some videos in weeks to come. Dressing a Straw Basket with Beeswax
Просмотров 3585 лет назад
I have a couple of straw baskets I like to use for breads and pastries but baskets don't react well to washing. My idea is to coat this basket with beeswax to protect. This experiment came out much better than I predicted. I am going to be treating more of my baskets with beeswax. for more content check out foolishkitchen.com Stakich Pure White Beeswax www.amazon.com/Stakich-White-Beeswax-Block...
The 1900 Slipper Can Opener
Просмотров 1755 лет назад
Menacing looking bayonet style can opener. I have had plenty of this style but this one is adorable, it has gears or teeth inside the anvil, that should grip the can edge for more leverage. Marked and dated Slipper pat 1900 I figuerd I would take it for a spin on a can of peaches. Dressing a Willow Basket in Boiled Linseed Oil

Repairing Steel-belted Coleman Cooler
Просмотров 13 тыс.5 лет назад
I set to work on the plastic parts of this Steel Belted Coleman Cooler and turned it into a project. Here I have cutdown to just the one corner, and a small tear using Great Stuff urethane insulation, some silicone tub calk and a smidgen of liquid nail. For a damaged corner, inject some urethane foam, and apply some pressure with a strap or some gorilla tape until it has dried. Then sculpt off ...

Swing Away Can Opener & Edlund Bottle Opener facelift
Would anyone happen to know if you can use this on the regular stove? The one I have didn't come with the base. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I just bought the b&m copper double boiler chaffing dish from Portugal. Never heard of one till today. I like it 😊
Wow! Thanks
I subscribed 😊
Thank you!!! I’ve looked and looked and never found anyone addressing this issue. Not even from the company.
Awesome! Thank you 🥰
I went through close to twenty can openers, the ones in Walmart, Target, BigLots, are all Chinese made crap. I had to go to Ebay and find one.
Thank you!
Every internet company that sells these tabletop claim shockers is out of stock..
What is in the yellow bottle with the red lid? This is the best video I've found for cleaning this sifter! Thank you!
Is testers food safe or high temperature
They look SO nice. I collect these not that vintage-certainly not expensive utensils, but they all look like shite. We have similar tastes, but you really take care of your things! Thanks for posting.
Too bad that thanks to your repair work the pitcher isn't food safe anymore.
The paprika is probably what made the recipe "Spanish" in Fannie Farmer's mind at least!
Amazon has brand new ones that are beautiful from $39.95 I don’t think it’s worth trying to pick up a used one spend your life trying to clean it up. I just got a brand new one and I am taking care of it I didn’t want to get one from the thrift store that was wrecked.
Could you please tell us where you got it? I'm looking for one just like this.
Thank you...I feel exactly like you...so happy when I can fix something.
Smart ! Thank you , I have the clothes rack my great grandmother used and now I can repair it !
Super helpful thank you!
Thank you, this was very helpful. We also got one from a thrift store that was put together wrong.
IF YOU'RE HERE BECAUSE YOUR TENDERIZER LEAVES GREY RESIDUE; NEVER use steel wool to clean meat cleavers. It adds scratches to the metal which just oxidizes the hammer again and makes it worse in the future. You CAN NOT dish wash these, the dish washer only speeds up the process of oxidization. If you want more information on it google oxidized kitchen utensils. This tutorial is more harmful than good. THIS IS NOT CLEANING THE UTENSIL IT IS RESTORING IT, IT STILL HAS TO BE CLEANED.
Is it possible to use other kind of oils?
This is the most helpful video I have found looking for a cooler repair step by step instructional video thank you so much for making this! this has helped me immensely!!!!
Is this the 2 qt or the 3.5 qt model?
I am so glad I found you. I have a complete chafing dish that I really want to try out. We have power outages frequently where I live and I wanted an alternative to propane, especially since alcohol is so much cheaper. This is a game changer. lol
Hi! I’ve come across a few of these antique pie pans. Some have quite a bit of tin, some not as much. Can you help me determine which are safer for us? Are there concerns about safety with using these pans?
Where are u take it ?
I dearly wish I could learn how to clean and repair my tinware without a long boring talk before the presenter gets to the repair.
I cannot wait to try this recipe 💕
Beautiful basket. Thanks for showing how to clean it.
Video starts about 26 min
What happened to the video, 5 min still on the beginning photo? Talking goes forward but you talk about something you are "showing" but just the same photo...
Do have to put in a different hole or did you just widen the one there?
There is no previous hole. These aren't nailed they are fitted.
Is there a way to re-enamel a vintage graniteware colander so that is is usable again in the kitchen with food? As in a non-toxic way to do it and permanent?
Yes, by using certified food-safe enamel. Unfortunately the colors still might not match up though...
@@CoolKoon Thanks I was wondering the same thing.
That paint is actually salvageable. Its just oxidized. I wet sanded mine which is from 1983 and did a quick compound and tghen polish and its bright forest green once again! Shiny too.
the video lighting was bad...it's actually not oxidized, it's still pretty bright red. I've never left it out in the rain. I have restored several Coleman's since this... I go through a lot of rubbing compound. 8)
So I let my friends borrow my food mill and when she gave it back it’s has a ton of movement now in the grinder handle.. I examined the mill throughly and found nothing is broken.. nothing is bent either.. best I can figure is some sort of washer is missing.. but Yours looks just like mine.. I wonder what happened.
When you put it back together after you take it apart to wash it, you can adjust the tension of the screw....tight would give you more resistance, and looser would turn more freely. if you are grinding large lumpy things you want it looser, if you are grinding something squishy then tighter can be better.
I love how the cat is on the counter to help out.
How big is too big for a skillet? Have you seen the ‘pathfinder’ skillet sold by self reliance outfitters? I think it’s $27 for an 8” stainless skillet with a stainless lid. The bottom has a plate in it to diffuse heat. It’s basically the same as the 21cm Primus campfire skillet. www.selfrelianceoutfitters.com/products/pathfinder-stainless-steel-folding-skillet-with-lid-set
Still a great pot for a camp fire !! Won't ruin your good LC or Staub that way!
How do u derust the chips
you can scrub it with Barkeepers Friend which has an amount of oxalic acid in it, which will do the trick. If it's larger, I soak it in a bucket of Evaporust which is nontoxic and reusable for derusting things.
That was my great great grandfathers company. Very cool.
Never had raw clams... Do They taste like oysters?
somewhat. I prefer them to oysters. they are slightly firmer in texture.
@@joycegodsey, thanks! Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the Video clip! Forgive me for chiming in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you researched - Biyriaalon Marvelous Bulldozer (should be on google have a look)? It is a great one off product for lasting longer in bed and impressing your partner minus the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my buddy at very last got great success with it.
Where are the measurements??
omg get on with it, lol.
Great video thanks so much! 😊
