Pre-surgery Intro: Cervical Fusion (ACDF) vs Disc Replacement (Arthroplasty) at C5-C6
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.3 года назад
Hey everyone! I am scheduled for cervical disc replacement surgery tomorrow morning for my disc herniation at C5-C6. I figured to post a pre-surgery video before I get the procedure done. I am planning on posting follow ups if time allows and if people are interested. I hope this video can help others who may be dealing with similar symptoms or are going through the process as I am. If I can be...
I’ve just had mine 8 weeks ago I don’t like how it gets tight I had c4-c5 😢laminectomy fusion
No collar ?
I’ve had my surgery 7 weeks ago today I’m getting that too down they went in back
Family medicine doc here and I'm getting my disc replaced in 48 hours. This is a really nice video. I trust my surgical team 100% but hearing your perspective is very helpful
I have mine in a few hours 🙏😫
Having a C5/C6 disc replacement in 10days with the Prodisc C Vivo. Not having a fusion in order to have full mobility afterwards. Pain & a pins & needles feeling from neck to right hand shoulder where it stops. Have tried P.T. , Cervical facet injections & a nerve root block inj. I would recommend a nerve root block inj prior to any surgery. If the injections helps even for 24hrs you will know that a nerve is compressed at that level. This is a minimally invasive procedure done from the front side of the neck with a small incision. Will be off work 6-8 weeks. Hopefully back home in 4hrs after the procedure. Will send an update after 1-16-25.
Update: I just had a C5/C6 artificial disc procedure with the ProDisc C Vivo on 1-16-25. Symptoms were pain/pins & needles feeling/ numbness from neck to r/h shoulder. Had these symptoms for about a year & tried facet injections along with a nerve root block injection with little benefit. I feel much better after my procedure was done. I would say about a 90% improvement at only 3 days post operation. It is important to realize that a surgeon will remove your damaged disc & also remove any bone spurs that are pressing on a nerve but that nerve takes time to heal. Patients may experience some degree of nerve symptoms during the first few weeks after surgery. If I had to do it again I would do it a 100x over. Soft cervical collar was issued to me & I can wear it as I feel neccessary to do so. Currently no neck pain & very occasional nerve tingling but that is a normal sign that the nerve is healing. Physical therapy will start 6 weeks post op. Hopefully return to work in approximately 8 weeks. You will have some upper back soreness/tightness & a muscle relaxer is common to take after this procedure. I will update again in 2 weeks. Thank you to the gentleman who made the original video as this supplied me with valuable information on what to expect pre & post surgery.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I had 2 discs replaced this morning with Prestige LP. I'm able to swallow with very little discomfort, walk, turn my head, and only my traps & shoulders are sore. It's pretty remarkable. I'm going to follow your practice of using the soft collar around the house for a few days to remind myself not to overdo it because I feel better now (6 hours post-surgery) than I've felt in weeks, pain-wise!
Having 2 levels c3-4 and c4-5 in a week . Do you sleep using single cervical pillow straight or sides is allowed? When did you start driving back ?
Having a disc replacement surgery done at the C5/6 level done on 1-16 with the ProDisc C Vivo. Mainly to elimate pins n needles/numbness effect from neck to r/h shoulder. Should be back home in approximately 4hrs. Thank you very much for the posting of videos to help others on what to expect.
Good luck pray all gos well ❤
I’m having mine jn 4 day C4-C5
C4-C5 anterior cervical disectomy and fusion and iliac crest graft

had 5/6 done a month ago. It's AWESOME!!!! No issues or real pain afterwards For those of you looking to have it done, don't fret it. Just research a good doc.
hi, thanks very much for your testimonials. helped me a lot. may i ask a question? now that you're ~3 years out since your surgery, have you gone in for any checkups with imaging? a study was released recently about higher prevalance of Heterotopic Ossification of artificial disc replacements as time passes. have you noticed any issues or slightly limited movements, and have you discussed this with your doctor about game plan if/when it calcifies too much?
Hi was your surgeon Michael Young Shun U healt
Hi woj. How are you doing now? How many months you wait before you see the improvement of your nerve and muscle pain. Especially on the neck

About to have this done in two weeks. Thanks for sharing. I’m having C4, 5 and 6 replaced. Your testimony helps me feel better about deciding on surgery.
Do you have side rhomboid pain?
Which brand/model replacement disc did you get?
I’m having mine done 27 th Nov
i had a bad motorcycle accident 13 yrs ago. the majors are..compound fx of Rt femur and broken C2 . They fused C1 to C3. I cant remember if its before or after the surgery but when I woke up , I cant lift my Rt arm and the forearm muscle has retracted and very painful. the surgeon told me I have TBPI [Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury] BUT its only my Rt thumb , index fingers and biceps that is paralyzed..I can feel the other three fingers and my triceps are working . Took almost 2 yrs to regain movement of Rt arm..but the pain and numbness of the thumb &index and biceps is constant . 13 Yrs later..the pain is getting unbearable.. had an MRI [ after i change my doctor] and they found out I need to have a disc replaced on C5/ C6 since its pinching on the radial nerve for a loong time .. All those years of suffering, I thought I have a TBPI . lol. Surgery is on election day. Theyre going to take off the hardware [ C1-C3] backside then go to the front for the C5-C6 disc replacement ..
I'm 1 week post op, is it normal the chin to still be swollen?

Thanks for the video’s. Wondering how you’re doing now that it’s been a few years. I’m about to get adr in my c5-c6 and am also active in life and my job (UPS man). I’ve heard a lot of good things but still have fear it will affect my lifestyle. Hope you’re doing well!
Has anyone tried to let the discs naturally recover. Surgery is good for immediate relief but 10-15 years down the road you will need surgery after surgery
Yes i habe tried for 7 years, it dont work 😥
Wait…you have 3 bulges and 2 extrusions and they only replaced 1 disc?
Do you have headache before
I am 1 week in from my C7 T1 replacement recovery. I was suffering for months with these sharp pains shooting down my right arm. I was very nervous going in, but all your videos have been very informative and helpful. I seem to be in the same place you were after week 1. Thank you for these.💪
