How to use sketchup files in Fusion 360, repair, render, animate, export
Ok I feel dumb. I followed the video but it is saying save as mesh.
The awesome way to do it and make it perfect is behind a paywall of course.
Everyone never learn AutoCad, Solidwrorks, MasterCam may not follow this video ... if create or edit stl files for 3D printer, just use online software , it's more easy for editing ...😊
Ok so I get the box, Not Shure how you got out of "create mode". If I move the mouse, the box follows and messes up the box size. I had to hit ESC to release the mouse. At that point, I cannot adjust the size.
How would you change or erase the year?
I would just created a new sketch. Because this convert is not a 100%.
this dont work with free version
Do you know what the pulse revs on your driver were for this set up? Many thanks
Great Video Thank you
hi for me, there is no option for mesh to brep in the menu...

thank you so much for doing this video....best one ever on thingiverse model modding...
Glad you liked it!
hello Jared! I tried to load the nextion HMI file and adjust it to my device, which is a 3.5 inch discovery series. But, when i adjust it because your 7 inch display was in a big format, the buttons are outside the range and after i resized it the output window prompt told me that there's an error of the buttons are out of range. I'm sorry i never deal with HMI display, maybe u could help?
Are all your buttons within the page? Sounds like you need to move something that is off the page back onto the page.
Excellent video, but I have a question: how do you wire a different stepper driver, in my case a DM542T. The rest of the components are the same. Thanks
Good question! The DM542T is a great driver. However, it is a pulse driven driver. Most PLCs cant control a pulse driver without an additional pulse module. Or you can alternatively, use a low cost microcontroller like an Arduino to control that driver. See my other videos for how to use an Arduino. I use a driver that is nearly identical to the DM542T (same wiring and setup)
@@jaredhanson9758 Ok, thanks.
Very insightful. You mentioned you have posted another video using a micro controller. What would you say are the pros and cons of using a micro controller vs a PLC for a project like this? Thank you.
Hi. Sure thing. For most clients, these typically come down to cost and ease of use. --PLC (such as the click plc in this video) PLCs are typically the only thing that manufacturing facilities accept for their controllers. They are typically all their workers know how to work with. PLCs are many multiples more expensive and some brands require expensive software. But they can be easier to work with once you are trained on them. PLCs are also more dependable long-term typically, have better safety ratings and are usually easier to debug. PLCs are also able to handle the voltages used by a lot of industrial systems such as 24VDC and the AC voltages wether directly or though attachment modules. , --Microcontrollers (such as Arduino) Microcontrollers are nice due to their low cost. They can also pulse the stepper driver directly without specialty modules. They do require sketch coding in C++ which is harder to learn than ladder logic. But the tools to program them are free and can allow for some pretty complex options once you are good at coding them. They are also not typically accepted in large manufacturing environments due to not having the same safety certifications as PLCs and that most industrial workers don't know how to work with them. Ardunios are typically only 5vdc and 3.3vdc inputs/outputs, so they require voltage converters if working with higher voltages. Hope that helps
The mesh option is no loner available under Solids Tab>Modify
Hi, use the search tool. click in the workspace, type "s", the search tool will appear, type "mesh" and choose the mesh to brep tool from the options it shows.
I do not have a Drop-down Mesh option I'm on Free Fusion
Hi, it may have moved during the last update. Use the search tool to find it. Click in the workspace, type "s", the search tool will appear, type "mesh" and choose the mesh to brep tool from the options it shows.
you are the dopest
thanks
Great video... thank you for sharing
Happy to help.
I'm using the Free version of Fusion 360... when I go to convert mesh to BREP, I don't have the Mesh option in my Solid/Modify drop down list. Any idea why?
If you in the solids workspace, youll need to change to the mesh workspace. To change workspaces, look for the "tabs" that say "solids, surface, mesh, sheet metal, etc.." and select the mesh one. Or you can type "s" to use the search tool to search for the convert mesh tool

Good and straight to the point, thanks.
Glad it helped.
How do u print/pdf when done on the free version?
I believe Fusion360 may have removed that tool for the free version. Try going to file>>export and see if it will let you export as a pdf.
surface merge menu is gone?
Yes. Unfortunately so. You can click the face and press the "delete" key on your keyboard to merge most faces. It is actually getting better than it was. If it messes up your face, just ctr-z or use the undo tool to undo the bad merge.
These are nice features, but, unfortunately autodesk keeps removing features for the free license
True. In some ways, they are making it even better, but not always.
Like your videos -easy to follow - Under Modify i don't show a mesh or a mesh to brep - can you tell me where this might be located
Make sure you are in the "mesh" workspace when looking for that. You can also use the search tool to find mesh-to-brep. To do so, click anywhere in the workspace, type "s", the search tool will open, then type "mesh". You will then see the mesh-to-brep tool in the suggested tools.
Thanks a ton… I’ve been looking for a simple explanation for how to do this for a while

This was very helpful. I would like to see more about how curved faces can be changed from the stl version into the new model. the two videos I have watched of yours you only dealt with flat faces and only the parts of the original model that you wanted to modify. That was very helpful because I kept thinking I would need to change the entire model to be contained in the model I was working with NOT just the part I was going to change. After you demonstrated how you did this it made total sense so thank you for taking the time to share this. Also, if you do have a video on how to convert curved faces i'd be interested in watching - please share which video you recommend on this.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I dont currently have a video for curved faces, but Ill add it to my list of videos to make.
@@jaredhanson9758 Yes...curved faces would be great
How do you get the sketch up file to fusion 360 to begin with ?
Use the import button to import the file
what about a command line method?
I didnt want to use any complex tools on the video. Since the command line option isnt a default fusion360 tool, I didnt want to confuse anyone. Thanks for pointing out other options though
merge looks like its gone now in the current version of Fusion. Bummer. I think its stitch now but it doesnt seem to work like merge did.
Yes. I was sad to see it go. I will try to make an updated video soon with tips for working with the newer version of Fusion360.
Just watched ur video going crazy hahaha but all u do now is go into mesh/modify then convert mesh.❤
@@KentuckyFriedKiwi glad you found it. I linked a video of how to use the “search” tool for future reference.
I've got Fusion 360 personal (the free one) and it only gives me the option to save as mesh, not STL. Have they changed this and locked it behind the paywall?
Saving as mesh will save it as an STL file. So no worries there.
I can't seem to find Mesh to BREP at all in the latest version
No worries, check the video description for how-to find the new location of that tool.
Muchas gracias.👍
Hi Miguel, I show the wiring diagram at time 1:12 in the video. Also, in the last sustenance of the video description, I give a link to an webpage that goes in depth on stepper motor wiring with Arduino. I would suggest checking that out, as it is where I learned to wire them. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions.
Thanks for a different process for doing this conversion. I'm self-learning F360, others have said to use the insert for getting the sty file onto the canvas. I will have to go at it both ways to see which works better for me. I really wish they had a version for personal use that had a few extra features like the prismatic and more than 10 files at a time.
Glad to help. And I agree, prismatic would be nice for personal license users. If its a simple file, feel free to share it on discord and I can use the prismatic tool for you since I have the professional version.
@@jaredhanson9758 Thanks, right now just trying to learn how to use F360 and apply it to R/C aircraft.
Hello Jared Hanson, can you help me with a software-related matter? I want to create a project. In my project, I will be using a Nextion TFT screen, Arduino Uno, Green LED, Blue LED, DC motor driver, and DC motor components. In addition, I will use one yellow button and one red button. The program's operation is as follows: I will input a value, such as 5000 milliseconds, into the "n0" object on the Nextion screen. I will also enter a value between 0 and 255 into the "n1" object, which will be related to the motor's speed. Based on these values, the motor will run between 0 and 255 revolutions for 5000 milliseconds and then stop. After entering these values, to start the program, the "b0" object on the Nextion screen and the Arduino, connected to the analog "pin1" yellow button, will serve the same function. Whenever the analog "pin1" button or "b0" object is pressed, the motor will start running again and stop when pressed again. In case of an emergency while the motor is running, there will be a red button connected to analog "pin2" to stop the motor. When the "pin2" button is pressed, the running program will stop immediately, and the green LED will turn off. To restart the program, we will need to press the "Dual State Button" button. All of this system will be controlled by the "dual state button" object on the Nextion screen. When the dual-state button is open, the system will be ready to run, and the position of the dual-state button will be indicated by the green LED connected to digital "pin 12". I want to create a project that operates in this way. What is the cost of such a project?
I would love to discuss this fruther. Please reachout to me privately so we can discuss cost and deliverables. productiveprototypes@gmail.com

when I upload and open the file opens still as "pink" not dark grey. and with that.. I cant see either Solid--->modify--->mesh OR after that.. surface---> merge... did they took that off in these 2 years?? btw using free version is it coz of that?
