Methane danger when Arctic melts - cartoon from Yes Men Fix The World
18:36. "Surely we are past the idea of wars of religion." Al Qaeda, the Taliban, beg to differ. Even in Belfast it took another decade to negotiate a truce, and the idea of a hard border continues to serve as a line in the sand which the English hegemons are loath to cross. Almost everything Asimov said continues to be true... but don't call me Shirley.
Ive been looking for this! <3 finally found it THANK YOU!! ^^
A good discussion on reason over belief and what is reason and what is belief. Lots of good questions and answers. ❤
I'm 51 don't believe in nothingness because it 2 must be made of something otherwise why believe in it, or bring it up at all, if it's nothing hummmm!!! I'm still smarter than this idiot 😮
I am one of those drops who will always be grateful to this man for putting so much down on paper. He was a major influence on my thinking growing up.
What Kaku doesn't explain , is that the chances of this gamma ray hitting us, is like firing a single shot rile (blimdly) in a football field and hitting the one and only ant in that field. I think we're quite safe, but WR104 does make for a good story. Kaku the drama queen.
Religion in the US is government subsidized fraud. Pious Fraud is monetary fraud as soon as money changes hands. Billions are extracted from our economy into the hands of self protective serial child sex abusers.
Imagine writing 500 books, let alone a single novel.
The body certainly has an ability to react to a placebo due to the brain believing in something that isn't real at all. I think there is certainly an occasionally positive effect inside the self that is occasionally gained by way of a spiritual placebo effect. It's pretty well proven that a prayer has no effect outside of the self but visualization, meditation, and prayer can have legitimate effects within the body. I am certainly an Athiest. No ghosts, no afterlife, no luck or kharma or any kind of magic in my opinion. They say there are no Atheists in foxholes. I have been dead 4 times now, I have ben close to death many times, I have been shot, on fire, hit by 30 cars, had 5 heart attacks, 5 strokes, a very bad run with cancer, and so close to death that I was halucinating in beautiful detail about just the sorts of things I believe quite strongly. . . yet, I was never moved to pray or ask a deity for help even a single time. Yet, doctors told me I was not going to be able to fix dissabilities I had but I believed that I could so I just kept working at it until. . . I fixed it. Shocking the doctors. Pretty sure no deities were involved there but me believing I had the power to work those solutions out myself certainly worked out well for me. So I think it's reasonable to figure that however people get to a strong belief that helps them, that belief that they can do things or survive. . . is by itself quite useful.
I find it that there is a beauty to irrationality. Its the most Human trait like faith. You give faith to your car, to your friends, and folks that they or it won't fail you and help you. Rationality in of itself is not as perfect Asimov makes it out to be. Rationality is not an answer to Humanity just as Irrationality. Its a mix of both. That's how its always been. From the Priests that laid down the groundwork for the foundation of Modern Science, using the Religious Ratonality put down by Saint Thomas Aquinas that we have a duty to expand and learn about the world through God to the absolute rational statistics and mixed irrational decisions made by the Communist party accidentally birthing advancements in technology. Humans needs to operate inbetween, going to one extreme is always not good. It causes violence and chaos and people aren't one dimensional. Most people would rather believe in something than believe not in nothing, people will always believe but believe in just another person, or organization like the Communist party, being a literal Church but rather than God being this thing you cannot touch or see, its the Government instead. People will always believe, remove God, people will replace God with the next best thing. Either themselves, the Government, or the person they put on a pedestal. Asimov also leaves out the fact that people always know these stories are fake, and its often times the Royalty and those so called "Put by God" in power. As if these wars of religions aren't because of God, but because of the innate greed of people, our thrist for power. The Soviets themselves, who worked and operated on Rationality aren't any different. Subverting, supporting and funding Dictators just as did the US who were Godly and religous that benefits them the most. In the end, its not a question of Religion, its a question of whether or not people can move past our imperfection as the Cold War showed, the Atheist USSR and Godly USA weren't different with how they operated, two Empires acting on self benefit. So in the end, we must practice a bit of both. I took a degree in Aviation, though I am a Catholic. My entire life revolves around the STEM sector and no utopian absolute Rationality or Irrationality is the solution. Its a mix of both. And why not believe in a God? It doesn't cost you anything. Might as well believe in something greater than me, than work and live knowing I am a mere nothing in a vast cosmic world that we do not know even a lick about. I also found what Asimov said, that its not because niceness is niceness, but because its death as a very sad and cynic view of peopld. Thats an extremely infantile way of viewing a Human's ability to exude a natural kindness to its surrounding and to other people.

Wow what a story
Some people will never have Faith, Faith is a gift from God. I pray for all to receive it, but the father of lies has you separated from Him. Look up Colleen Willard's miraculous healing from a brain tumour. The Lord said "You will recognise them by their fruits" The fruits of Medjugorje are good fruits, only the devil will argue otherwise.
What is this recording from?
Science is proof of god. Brilliant man.
Blooming heck. 55 years later I’ve realised something about my family home. It was my Dads books in the bog & the handy windowsill 🙂 Isn’t life great?

And still today we have no choice, but continue to think we do. Tell the CEO or politician who has his hand in your pocket to be "nice", they will raise prices and take more.
I get what he's saying but at the same time he was just a kid tho 😂🤣
I suspect that most dystopian novels are written as warnings of things to avoid.
Good movie. Kinda strange and a little disjointed, but still a good movie. BTW, which has it's roots in a Twilight Zone episode. (Can't remember the particular one... I'll have to look into that.)
STUPIDITY in america is a FACT, will they ever learn, is a THEORY
Patrick Mcgoohan portrays George Bernard Shaw, playwright and critic. John Gielgud portrays Sydney Cockerell, a museum curator and collector. Wendy Hiller portrays Dame Laurentia McLachlan, a Benedictine nun.
I remember this when it aired on cable in the late 90's, I had it on VHS tape.
I cannot blame you but, yeah, there's a philosopical trend you second guess. And, another thing you're counting out.
Wow! Holy Shit. I just realized, Trmp is a fucken Get-Rich scheme. Thank you, Mr. Asimov.
Hearing this great mind gives me a peace and reconciliation I have been searching all my life… Thank you Arthur Clarke and Carl Sagan and such thinkers for inspiring us. By the way Arthur would roll over in his grave if he knows now all this mumbo jumbo has now given wake to the worst kind of wokism.
He was wrong. A theory is not a group of observations put together when you are talking about evolution, since nobody was there to "observe"
If I am said to be created by God, and I accept that this God has instilled me with both freewill and reason, and I eventually use these "gifts" to ultimately reject God's existence and the result of this is that I then am punished for eternity for this honest, sincere, and thoughtful rejection, then these were never gifts given to me freely with the intent that I use them as I see fit. And if that is true, then there never was freewill. And I was always a slave. The "Deal" offered to me was always a sham. "Accept Me, or else" ? Is that "love."
It’s amazing how much Patsy Kensit looks, sounds, acts, and even walks like Mia 😮 She’s an incredible actress! Why isn’t she in bigger movies nowadays??

Mary said im not coming anymore and imshe magically said this when lock downs and covid happened lolol it a all fake Garabandal is real tho
I don’t hear Vicka saying anything but all I hear and see is this man, who is unknown who has no authority who is speaking over Vicka in this video , talk for Vicka …. I don’t believe him
Asimov was being very nice in not getting more into the perniciousness of religion. I don't care what anybody believes in their own life, but as soon as they think their beliefs have to be imposed on others, there's an end to my tolerance. What's going on in some countries around the world, including some US states, is worse than the witch hunts, because we're supposed to have moved past superstition and know better.
Take notes, kids, this is called a conversation.
I have gotten rid of items stating “Medjugorje” or “Medugorje” on them. These apparitions have been appearing for too many years on a regular basis. Those claiming to receive messages have been financially profiting.
♦"Religion began when the first scoundrel met the first fool." ♦"Religion is founded on the fear & gullibility of many & the cleverness of few." ♦"Only fools revere the supernatural bs just bc a book says it's the holy truth." ♦"The delusional religious fools are cocksure & the intelligent full of doubt." ♦"The religious believe by the millions what only lunatics believe on their own." ♦"It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled." ♦"It's difficult to free the religious fools from the chains they revere." ♦“To have faith is precisely to lose one's mind so as to win God.” ♦"The death of dogma is the birth of morality." ♦"Religion fools many bc human brain is susceptible to pareidolia & apophenia." ♦"There is no objective order or structure in the world except what we give it." ♦"Morality is an evolutionary process. Jesus & authors of Bible didn't know slavery is immoral, but today we know slavery is immoral."
Imaginary devils tend to be the result of delusions ! Sometimes , you have enough insight to recognize a delusion and other times you just act on your sick delusions
God’s work is rationality ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
