Why I'm Going Back to Film Photography
Alex this this great, I am looking for a back- up to my A7iv, still undecided, but thanks. Liked and subbed.
Hi, Lumix LX3 user here! Thank you for your video. I was wondering if you color graded your photos? Also what camera did you used for the videos? Thank you!
Excellent review - thanks!
You are welcome! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video!
since 2021, i have used the A7R3a as my main work camera-events, portraits. i also use it for my personal work-street, night, landscapes. i photograph compressed raw without any issues with client satisfaction or print quality. i agree with many of your comments. i'll add that i do wish the phase detection worked across the entire frame, especially when photographing in portrait mode so the top section was under the AF sensor. when that does happen, i simply focus and recompose. other than that quibble, i really have co complaints. thanks for the effort and sharing. thumbs up.
@@smalltalk.productions9977 Glad to hear that the A7R3 is serving you well even to this day! I learned to use compress raw after posting this video because someone told me to use it on the comments section. Ever since then, I’ve been enjoying the smaller files, and faster processing time when shooting burst. I am yet to print any photos from this camera, but I just moved recently so I want to print large to hang it up on my wall. Thanks for your input on the phase detection. Did not notice it when I was using it because I never did portrait work. Thanks again for watching and leaving a comment! Have a nice day!
The limited focus area (for phase) in portrait mode was my only real gripe with this camera. One can work around it, but focus/recompose isn't always the best solution in hectic situations. It was the only reason I moved on to an A7Riv for which I otherwise had no need.

Ive been wonderig if I should get an X-Pro 2. I enjoyed the photos you took. We done.
Thank you so much for watching, Danny. I definitely recommend you to get the X-Pro2!!
@@AlexKimPhoto Hi. Thanks for you personal view of the XPro2. I'm on the fence on getting one since my X-T3 doesn't seem to inspire me to go out and shoot. Possibly due to its non-motivating aesthetic compared with the X-Pro2. BUT, the mentioning of the XPro2's underwhelming low light performance infuses doubts if I should still take the X-Pro2 into serious consideration as I necessitate decent low-light AF performance from a cam. Also, since you reside in South Korea, I'm currently in your country (arrived Oct. 29th) but leaving on the Nov. 4th. I'm looking for camera sling bags that won't cost a lot. Do you have recommendations where I should look for them? Thank you.
@ i do not really have a camera bag so I can’t speak from experience, but there is a street near myungdong church called 충무로. It has lots of camera shops so if you go there im sure you will find a camera bag. Try searching 충무로 카메라 on naver.com. It will show you the street. As for the lowlight performance, compared to a Sony A7R3, it is a bit lacking. But as you can see on the video, i take my shots as i am walking, so it does put the X-Pro2 in a difficult situation. If u slow down, i think it will be sufficient enough. As for aesthetics and carrying it around, it does look good, sound good, and it is lighter than it looks. So i think you should give it a go. Worst case scenario, you will just have to sell it at no loss. Happy shooting and hope you enjoy the rest of your trip to Korea!
I do tend to post the same message to X10 reviews. To sum up, the X20 solves many of the issues that the X10 had. The X20 has a viewfinder with shooting info and focus confirmation. More jpeg options and film sims. Slightly better auto focus and face recognition. Initially I wanted to buy an X10 when they were new in 2012? but found that I was too late, so I ended up with an X20 instead. I still use the X20 today, I probably would have off loaded an X10. You can put an x10/20 in a big pocket and the X20 is still my go to 'pocket' camera. However Alex, I agree with all your criticisms of the X10, many are also relevant to the X20. The viewfinder coverage is poor. Fine detail tends to be smuged in Jpeg. Battery life is poor and the battery indicator is hopeless. Autofocus is slow and not always accurate. Its not a camera for fast action, though on the X20 there is a 'best frame capture' mode that helps a little (don't know if the X10 has the same). As a fun occasional camera, and a creative tool the X10/20 is brilliant, but not perfect by any means, and I absolutely agree with you that niether the X10 or 20 is worth the ridiculous second hand values being demanded. Glad I bought mine new. No, its not for sale......but probably an X10 would be!
Yes, after experiencing the X10, I had an idea that X20 and X30 might be significantly better (autofocus, viewfinder and film sim). I did have to be honest about my negative points about the X10, because I honestly had my hopes up way too high after seeing other reviews about it. I just wanted the people watching this to know what they are getting into when they are buying this camera. I did quickly sell my X10 after this review but I am open to trying the X30 if I can find it for a good price! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment on my video :) I really appreciate it! I am happy that you agree with me on the criticisms of this camera haha
@@AlexKimPhoto No camera is perfect. This I have concluded after 45 years of photography (a Nikon FM3a comes close though!) BUT we do have to chose what works for us, and there is no harm in pointing out that the X10 doesn't work for you.....I've seen people off load Leica's for exactly the same reason. I've had a few miss cameras myself, I bought a Nikon DF in 2014, being a past film shooter I thought I might enjoy the film-digital fusion......it was an awful camera and I quickly sold it. I'm enjoying you other posts, so here's hoping for more subscribers, you deserve it.
@@Revup1 Thank you for sharing your experience! Yes, being a past film shooter myself too, I only dreamed about the FM3a. Only heard great things about it. Your comment gave me the confidence to just keep being honest about my reviews. All cameras have little things here and there that are not perfect for the particular user. Thank you so much for checking out my other posts too! hope to see you here again, and thanks again!
Saying that a purely optical viewfinder on a 13-year-old digicam is bad because it doesn't show you digital information is a bit of a stretch. Same with the optical viewfinder view vs what is captured point. And the focus speed comments. And the complaints about the film simulations that the X10 doesn't have that weren't even invented yet. Not to be mean, but I think you miss the entire point of the X10 in 2024. Better to think of the X10 like a classic car that you drive on Sundays or as a C or D camera that you bring along with your daily carries to get the odd interest shot for socials or whatever. Your story of soloing it to a professional event like Seoul Fashion Week is both hilarious and mind-boggling in equal measure. Having said all that, thanks for sharing your opinion and taking the time to make the video!
@@gunn1ng i didnt want digital info on the viewfinder. Just some frame lines because even old film cameras have that. I also wanted this review to help those who might want to buy this camera. So i wanted to let them know that not many film simulations existed back in the days. This matters because people, especially beginner photographers, like these film simulations and buys fujifilm cameras for that reason. For some people, this might be the only camera that they will buy and own. So i think i made valid points. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on my video!
Great work on the video and photos as always 👍🏻
Thank you so much for watching! Means a lot!
Thanks for the video, I've been dreaming about this camera for many years. But it lacks the rotatable screen and sharper fullhd 30/60 fps shooting that the A7C or IV has. But the IV is more expensive, and the A7C has an even smaller viewfinder than the A6300/6400, on which I could no longer look into it. That's such a difficult choice
@@afferist Yes, i can confirm that the lack of rotatable screen hurts you when you shoot vertically. Especially when you are shooting at an angle. This was my first hybrid camera, so i was satisfied with the sharpness of the video. But then again i have no comparison with a sharper camera. It really is a difficult choice! For me, it came down to the price and the extra megapixels on the A7Riii. I hope you find the right one for you! Thanks a lot for watching :)
@@AlexKimPhoto thanks =)

By the way I am a wedding photographer..
@@souvikdey3103 i think if you were satisfied with the autofocus of A73, you should get the A7R3. If you are completely fine with the megapixel of A73, and want to upgrade to the articulating screen and better autofocus, then get the A74

@@mrlowblow I shoot in RAW, but i only slightly touch the light, whites, shadow, and blacks in LightRoom. The RAW colors are fantastic

@@WazzyTV because although the a7m3 has some video features the R3 lacks, the price difference between the two is not very big at all. You get comparable video quality with better photo quality. But you cant go wrong with a7m3 either
@@AlexKimPhoto i appreciate the feeback
I have had my X10 since it first came out. I love it. I can't understand how you can knock it. You seem to be expecting it to perform like it was made in 2024. In its day it was and still is an amazing camera, Today I appreciate the retro rangefinder camera look. I still love the files it produces. As far as your autofocus performance critique it's not on par with today's autofocus systems and to expect that is not realistic. As far as the price goes since the Fujifilm X100V series has been impossible to get that has driven up the prices on both camera's. Especially since I have seen the X10 referred to as the baby X100V alternative. It is what it is and don't expect it to perform at today's standards as it's a 12 year old camera. There are many newer smaller camera's out today that are amazing. Lower your expectations on it and enjoy it for what it's capable of. Please don't take my comments as being offensive Im not trying to knock you. Thanks for taking the time to make a video on the X10 and mentioning the pro's of it. I just don.t agree with all the con's.
No offense taken! Thank you for your comment. I did compare the autofocus to some of the newer cameras because that is all I have, except for one digicam that I own. So I guess I was not fair on that. As for the image quality, I think my expectations were unfairly high because all the recent reviews I saw on this camera were raving about the image quality. All in all it is a fine camera, but it just wasn't for me.
My batteries seem to drain too fast. Got a new one, same. Best tips for minimizing drain?
Wow, that is unheard of. I would start by lowering the brightness of the lcd, and have the camera on sleep mode if you don't touch it for more than 30 seconds.

This camera and even the Sony A7R5 still have a striping line problem. Fuji and Olympus have this grid problem. These artifacts are from Sony sensors with phase detection when a light source is done r what low coming in sharp like a snoot. A ND or polarizer filter should fix this problem. Get the magnetic rings so you can pop filters on and off. Also Raw Therapy can fix the stripping problem. Look up Sony A7ii or Sony A7iii striping lines. There is a DPreview post that says Sony A7ii bit hrs taking about the Sony A7iii. Canon does not have this problem.
