      Wrapping at the stack is the best way to do it. Bales are carted , wrapped and in the stack within around 45 mins from coming out the baler. Moving them after they’re wrapped is asking for trouble

      @sandersfarmvids 7 месяцев назад

      Hi. Can’t put photos on RUclips! We mowed it when the grain was at a cheesy stage so it was digestible without crimping it. We did put the knives in but the straw was still quite long. We should have lifted the mower and left the bottom 10 inches of stalk. We put it out with a mchale strawchopper which chops it up a bit more. We have fed it to our young stock and dry cows who love it.

    Ive never seen straw wrapper before would it heat during d winter and not be good for bedding. It would take pressure off me if i wrap my straw during d spring as calving space and to have 2 extra pins to rear calves in would make my life a lot handier during calving season

    • @sandersfarmvids

      We usually wrap a few hundred a year due to lack of space. As long as it’s good dry straw they don’t heat up.

    I thought when doing wholecrop silage the grain would need to be rolled or have some sort of mill as the grain would pass threw the animal and they would not get all the value from the feed if not rolled. • @sandersfarmvids
      @sandersfarmvids 11 месяцев назад

      You have to harvest the crop when the grain is like a soft cheese. Too milky it won’t have as much nutrition, too hard it will pass through cow. If it’s gone too hard you may as well combine it

    Different feeding system and very different climate. Canada, near Montreal. Dairy herd in a tie stall type barn. We run a steel spike through the centre of the bale and lift them with an electric winch that runs on an overhead track. They unroll like a roll of paper towels.
