Here's the problem. EVERYTHING is made in China nowadays. However, there is made in China but to proper specifications (after all, iPhones and many branded tools are all made in China too), vs made in China by lookalikes but low quality. It really makes it hard for consumers. Now if the branded products don't charge like wounded bulls, then we the consumer are less tempted to go for el-cheapo clones. But take for example phones - if a working and not-too-bad phone can be 1/8th the price of iPhone or Samsung, guess which one we buy?

Where does that air freshening filter go?

I would definitely be interested in a design video on creating a frame like this. It would be good practice with the design software.

I’ve noticed something that the sellers do who sell the cheap units: Instead of saying what the lifting capacity is of their units, they’ll use words or phrases like load bearing capacity or support capacity. A lot of us can hold a 200 lb person on our shoulders. It’s quite another thing to lift an unconscious 200 lb person that’s laying down and put them on our shoulders. Cool that you actually show the difference here between load bearing capacity and lifting capacity. Great video!

Hi Chris. Not only are there scam units available, but also low and mid quality units available. And furthermore, Stanley, DeWalt and Irwin have also come out with their own versions. Of course DeWalt and Irwin are owned by Stanley so all three of those units are basically the same. Last I heard the Viking Arm is patent PENDING in the U.S. and that’s why all these knockoffs can be sold here. I have some cheap ones. I didn’t even know that the original Viking Arm existed at the time. Mine are ok for small home jobs but nowhere near the quality of the Viking Arm. It’s seems as though the U.S. government is slow to issue patents for nefarious reasons.

Now that you've done a review of Cubitron II, would you consider doing a review based on grit type i.e. garnet, flint, aluminum oxide, zirconia, ceramic alumina, ceramic zirconia, and silicone carbide. Having been a fan of 3M Cubitron II, I was appalled that the price has more than doubled in 2 years since I started buying and using it so I started looking for something as durable or more durable. I've so far settled on silicone carbide imported from China because I do a lot of sanding of various oak and elm species and because the longevity is significant. A hard wood like Post Oak or Winged Elm can be very time consuming with the wrong sandpapers. Cost is significant as well as Cubitron II costs about 85 cents per disc (5" 8 hole) but I've found silicone carbide sourced through Amazon to be only about 19 cents per disc and the longevity is better than the Cubitron II. Thanks!

So the cheap ones will 'hold' but not lift much. But a block of wood will hold, too. So, basically, the cheap knockoff is not as useful as a block of wood.

Evidently, your presentation is NOT for absolute beginners, as there are many steps/ assumptions which, in the making, omit steps that beginners would miss. As an example, if I was sending you a recipe and omitted spices, assuming that you knew about using specific spices, you would never cook a meal, as would I. Consequently, leaving out the software used, etcetera, and the picture is not sharp left me asking more questions about the value of the presentation too. However, from a struggling CNC owner, have a great 2024.

Why not just get a plunge keyhole bit? Takes me 3 seconds to cut with mine without having to do the pocket first. Also cuts out steps.

I'm fully behind using CNC to make something more complex! 🙂However: as a beekeeper, this is possibly the worst of all worlds. In foundationless frames, the idea is to let the bees draw out comb *as they need to, in the pattern they need*, noting that bees will make larger and smaller comb depending on the use. You can then *cut the entire frame out* to harvest it. In this design, it needless restricts how the bees can draw comb, while making it extremely difficult to harvest. It may be possible to put these frames in a spinner because of the extra support, but you'd have a hell of a time uncapping first. So 10/10 for creativity! But maybe not in practice... ;-)

Cool… By the way, the machine heads are marked and will be drilled anyway, so it's much easier to screw it or nail it with a pin gun to spoil board through those marks than to glue them and peel them off.

Could not find those clamps on website.

I would have used a tool to taper the bottom of the hand holds otherwise water will stand in the handholds.

How do you stop the cedar from breaking away while cnc milling? Or even chiselling? Ive just tried 1st attempt cnc carve in CNC. Bits of wood fibres breaking all ové the place. Even putting tape on it ripped face grain away when removing tape...

3:40 Wow!! That’s what I came here for. Literally searched “sawdust explosion demonstration” after watching USCSB’s excellent “Combustible Dust: An Insidious Hazard” (well worth watching) and this came up like 5th result. ✅

Is there any mistake this for that? $30 vs $200

What a perspective change, my wood shop is a hobby, fishing, and watching sunsets on the boat is a hobby, but somehow drawing up plans to switch my gas 305 with diesel with a 10k-15k budget wasn't even fazing me (despite only hitting the boat on weekends at most) while I am in the shop almost every day, and agonizing over a 3-4k versus 5k plus CNC is driving me nuts on pulling the trigger. After your video, I have realized I just need to raise my budget on both, and maybe find a CNC that can slab out yellow tail and halibut for me.

The real issue is in the event of a small, sawdust fire. You’re going to get a concussion, and that will knock more sawdust off of rafters or equipment, which within a fraction of a second will also add to the fuel of the sawdust fire, this will create a second concussion. That’s even larger, and can knock sawdust out of corners from every nook and cranny that might have been accumulating for years resulting in a catastrophic explosion that can literally blow up a building. There are OSHA videos about this.

Would an offset inward command be a better option for the inside tool path?

Ok boss I’m sorry I had to comment. This was an absolutely waste of my time and others. You compared it to a single item. I thought how big of a spectacle to made this to be with 4 different parts I was going to spend 220.00 on this item. I actually think I need to do more research now. You should have just made 1 video unboxing and very small comparison review would have been a better title just so I was not upset and let down by the end. Hopefully if you make more in the future you do a real showdown like I watch people do with their tool videos. Thanks for trying. Good luck.
