I don't know why one of your videos was recommended to me the other day. I've never thrown a punch in my life and fall into the category of a complete wimp who couldn't knock the skin off the proverbial rice pudding, but it is always interesting to watch an expert at his craft who knows how to explain it, and so I've found myself soaking up knowledge I will never be able to put into practice (and rather regretting it - every wimp would like to be able to handle himself). And then I thought "This man looks awful familiar". Then I remembered "He's that mild-mannered bloke I used to watch on Grampian TV news programmes 40 years ago, and here he is knocking the daylights out of a punch bag". But then I also remembered my late Dad, who was a boxing fan, saying when you first appeared on TV "That man used to be a boxer."

In any kind of martial art, whether it’s boxing, BJJ, Judo, Karate, whatever, the hardest thing to do is to walk-in. Gotta understand that everyone in that gym or training facility all had that same feeling, and they all started from the same place of having no knowledge in that particular art. Just show up, make the walk and it’ll be worth it.

How do you think you’d have fared against Kenny Buchanan in your prime ?

I’ve been disillusioned with the state of boxing. The sport has become diluted, especially when it comes to coaching. These days, anyone can complete a short course and call themselves a boxing coach, which is a far cry from the days of the ABA, when coaches brought genuine experience and passion to the ring. Watching your videos takes me back to a time when boxing truly meant something. Thank you for keeping that spirit alive.

That’s a load of rubbish I went when I was younger with my mate and they just left us sitting there and never said a word, felt completely uncomfortable, we waited for about 45 mins absolutely ignored so we got up and left.

I'm an ex amateur boxer and was keen to begin a coaching career. I approached my nearest club Finchley Boys and was welcomed with open arms by the coaches. I remember listening to my coaches when I first began boxing in the sport and took every bit of advice they were willing to impart. My thinking was they had experience I had none so I could only better myself by listening to every word they spoke and that's what I took into my enjoyable new career. At 70 I'm crippled with arthritis so unfortunately had to give it up. Frank reminds me of my earlier coaches and I love his enthusiasm.
