I wish when I was a young man that I could have understood that the basic things like stance , footwork, punching technique , weren't just "beginners stuff" . Because the whole time I was doing it my mind was on the "advanced stuff". I managed to muddle through for quite a long time , but then BAM, I ran into the wall I had built myself . I couldn't fight well because my basics weren't solid like they needed to be . I had to stop cold , go all the way back and start from scratch . And it's not just the time it takes to learn, it's also the time it takes to un-learn. So if anybody reading this is new to the sweet science know this: The basics ARE the advanced stuff . That's what you fight with . So sit down on them until you can't do them wrong if you tried .
Very well said,I am 54 and I am boxing for the last 10 months. Frank's videos are brilliant and it is also great to get comments from experienced fighters like yourself
@FlatlandMando I mean, Uysk hasn't yet. Not Russian, but they learn the same basis boxing style. Same with bivol. So they just use different tools to get the same job done. I think arguments can be made for which is better. I'm not sure.
@@pinterestexpress8870 I'm all for protecting the chin. You do that within your own style. I see some fighters with a high guard who seem uncomfortable trying to throw punches. Head movement is also key.
Say whatever you want, but this should be taught in every elementary school worldwide.
God bless

Fun fact, lots of russians have their hands up in a high guard more than not.
Do they pay the price for lack of chin guard?

Yep. I was going to mention Usyk’s high guard style. What’s your thoughts Frank?
@@9usuck0 every boxer has his own style. I dont think high guard is bad. You just need how to protect and throwing jabs with that guard.
