17:00 glad you mentioned them. They needed to be in the movie. The ones in the film were cool but I REALLY wanted to see the other monsters. He said it perfect, they took the Wrong monsters out.
I have bought the dvd but haven’t watched it yet
I do have a physical copy. Picked up the Scream Factory. I first heard of this movie in the early 1990s when Joe Bob Briggs would consistently talk about it on his late night show on The Movie Channel. The killer is why i watch it. Still too creepy.
Since recording this we've managed to find a few copies on blu ray, but sadly not the Scream Factory version! We're both fans of Joe Bob, but sadly in the UK we barely get any of his episodes on Shudder. Most of them had to be made audio only or 'Just Joe Bob' where it shows him talking but cuts out any parts of the films he's talking about.
What a great breakdown of the movie! That potion scene is so silly even if the special effects are dated and with "Sexy Shaggy" being a little weird.
Thank you! We happy you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun researching for this video. Imagine if Scooby had actually turned into George Bush, that would have went beyond silly 😂
@@ycft yep! if you can believe it he also could have been Yao Ming, the basketball player!
@@Buff_Shaggy We didn't know that! That wouldn't have made any sense 😂
Hey favorites
Can anyone tell me where you can find the miniseries to watch in the UK please?. On prime its the original Salem's Lot with David Soul. I am a huge fan of this but would love to see the mini series before the new Salem's Lot comes out in October x ❤️🤗
We really wish we could be more help when we covered this we couldn't find it on streaming ANYWHERE in the UK 😥 We had to order it on dvd from ebay.
@@ycft thank you so much, will hunt for a dvd copy xxx ❤️
I like all the sequels but my fave is Prey, followed closely by Predators. “If it bleeds, then we can kill it.”
The Predator was unfortunate for being sandwiched in between Predators and Prey, which are two very good films.
Predator 2 is an excellent movie.
YES!
Very informative review on the making of this classic. Other than Prey, I can't say that I'm a big fan of the sequels. The Predator franchise has a simple hunter-prey formula that other than settings/characters has little originality. Prey works best because of its 1812 setting within the Comanche Nation of the Great Plains. The characters are well drawn and complex along with the fantastic world building. I agree with David that it seems a bit far fetched that Naru could single-handedly defeat the Predator; I really wished her brother survived to double team and defeat the monster, which would have been more realistic. I understand the new film by Prey's director will be another standalone set in the near future, hopefully it's as good as Prey. I would love to see more Predator films set in the distant past like in the Sengoku period of Japan with samurais being the prey or imagine a story set in the Age of Chivalry with the Predator hunting King Arthur's knights.
We're glad you enjoyed the video! We had a lot of fun making this one, it's been on our list for a very long time. We are quite excited to see a Predator film in a future setting, purely because that's not something we've seen outside of video games. David remembers playing Aliens Vs Predator and AVP: Extinction when you got to see the Colonial Marines take on the Predators. A Japan setting would be very cool, we know that is the fan favourite idea for a sequel, a medieval setting would actually be very cool, Excalibur could end up being some kind of Predator technology. Or we could have Robin Hood vs Predator! Even a pirate themed film could be a lot of fun, put the Predator at sea, have the first half the film be similar to The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The franchise has so many possibilities, we're just bored of them always setting the final showdown in the forest, using mud.
@@ycft It's pretty amazing that after Prey the Predator franchise has gone from a dead sub-genre to a world of new possibilities. I don't play video games, so I've never heard of the Predator in a future setting. I understand that the Alien comic books/novels also have pretty interesting storylines that can be adapted for the movies. I don't know why Hollywood hasn't bothered to use these stories from other media to make good Alien/Predator movies.
@@guillermo9631 Now that Disney own both Predator and Alien, we could potentially get another cross-over int he future. There's even some comics where a Predator has taken on an Engineer from Prometheus! It was very excited to see hype and excited around the Predator franchise again after Prey, but they need to keep up the momentum and avoid another sequel like The Predator. It's a shame we'll definitely never see Batman Vs Predator, which was a fun comic story line, because there's no way Warner Bros would play ball.
@@ycft The franchise is in better hands with Disney as you can see by 20th Century Fox's awful record. I'll never forgive them for cancelling James Cameron/Ridley Scott's collaboration on an Alien sequel by making that cheapo knockoff Alien vs Predator instead. As far as I see it Disney needs visionary directors on board to guide each franchise to new heights otherwise it will kill both outright through boring repetition.
@@guillermo9631 We'll never forgive Fox for cancelling Neill Blomkamp's Aliens sequel! Even though we had a few issues with Alien: Romulus, we'd still like for that director to do a sequel, and its actually made us excited for the TV series Alien: Earth.
Great Video ✅ Thank You 😀
Glad you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun researching and making this one.

I love Predator, it was the first 18-rated film I saw at like 13 and I instantly binged all the Arnie films i could get my hands on. Blew my 13 year old mind
David was the same, he went straight from this to Commando then Total Recall. He first watched it at a family party where he was the only child there, so his dads cousin decided to put Predator on for him because he was bored 😂
Fun fact: the original was filmed in the actual town it takes place in: Southport, North Carolina.
That's pretty cool, it feels very rare that that happens!
I hate when people say the final girl “isn’t interesting”. At this point I feel like people say it just to say it. Julie is a far more interesting character than Helen. A year after the accident, she’s wallowing and self-punishing. She’s given up on herself. Then the events of the movie spur her into action. She gets her confidence back and she decides she doesn’t want this accident to be the defining moment of her life. She finds her agency and she’s the one who leads the charge to figure out who’s stalking them. I always liked Julie and I think she has a great arc.
I guess we just don't connect with Julie 😂 We totally get what you're saying and having that view of Julie must make the film are more interesting experience. It's been a while since we made these, or watched the films (a rewatch is on the cards) and if we're remembering correctly we said we preferred Julie in the second film 🤔 If they ever get another sequel off the ground, we would like to see Julie return, but not like Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween (2018), we would want her to have her life together before the killer causes havoc. Did you ever watch the TV series?
Holy crap, just came over from the Jeepers Creepers video you guys made and I'm stunned about how much the quality has improved in just a few months! The Reviews were already great, now the presentation fits the great quality! Awesome Job! ❤
Thank you so much! That really means a lot. We always like to tweak and improves things, it helps keep things interesting for us. Hopefully one day we can have the dream set where we can control the sound and lighting better 😂
Agree 100% on Reborn being one of the very worst movies I ever had the displeasure of watching. As if the plot wasn't bad enough and the actingbeing amateurish at best, the greenscreen usage and the quality of the CGI was laughable, unfortunatelly. I get that this movie had a very small budget and was filmed during covid....BUT you can make really, really good movies with little money. CUBE's production cost for example was very cheap and that movie is a masterpiece and unforgettable, rewatched it this year and it holds up very well.
Even if Reborn had been made within the Pandemic looming over it's production, it probably wouldn't have saved it, they cheaped out big time on Post-Production, and casting, and all it achieved was burying The Creeper for another long stint of time. David keeps threatening to buy the blu-ray for Sam as a present 😂
@@ycft Thst's scary propsotion 🤣
@@Rayven2711 Strangely, it's much easier to source Jeepers Creepers: Reborn and Jeepers Creepers 3 on blu-ray than it is to find the 2nd film!
I always interpreted the “You have to bury your own” as a tradition but not necessarily a rule. Like “Step on a crack and you’ll break your mother’s back” kind of logic.
That's an interesting take, we've never thought about it that way. David always saw it as part of the Wendigo's influence starting to take affect on someone. Like they're condemning their pet, daughter, wife's soul to the evil. At least that's how he interpreted in when reading the book.
It was passable but they didn't get the atmosphere right. It was also a bit jarring seeing actors from "Neighbours" and "Prisoner Cell Block H" knocking about 😂
The tv version is genuinely creepy.
The 2004 version was closer to the book and Barlow was much more accurate. The 1979 version was much creepier and atmospheric.
Yes!! I am so excited for this! I Don't know if you remember but I've said before that Salem's Lot 2004 is how I found your channel so I feel like this is a full circle kind of moment. I can't wait to see this movie and I can't wait for your thoughts on it! -James Stewart
We do remember! It feels crazy to us that we've been talking about the release of the new film for nearly 2 years, reviewing this film will feel like a milestone 😂 We can't wait for it, and it looks like it might even get a cinema release in the UK!
I was 14. Still a stand-out on the horror scene for its time. I think of it fondly.
Thank you for validating this forgotten series! It was chilling but your pronunciations of actors need need a little more looking into😂
Pronunciations of actors and characters is a problem that haunts us to this day....It's gonna be rough when we start doing Italian Giallo 😂
I just got the notification from MAX, I’m so excited to watch this! I love both earlier miniseries versions, including the scenes cut from the first version when they made it movie length for the VHS release, and I’ve read the book, and the short story “Jerusalem’s Lot.” I also enjoyed the prequel miniseries “Chapelwaite.” 🧛🏻♂️
David has recently listened to a collection of Stephen King short stories that included Jerusalem's Lot! Apparently this film might get a cinema release in the UK, this would be fantastic for us.
This version totally slept on. I loved it
Not only did Kelli Maroney film at the same mall for all 3 films, she also lived near it, so that was the mall she personally shopped at.
It wouldn't be surprising if a casting director discovered her in that mall 😂
Zom Rom Com
A lot of people say they knew the killer was a man because of the body type, but fun fact: the costumed killer was played by a stunt WOMAN. I’m sure she loves hearing that everyone thinks her figure is manish haha. Also, I think we are hearing 2 different versions of the same backstory in the film, one from Jody’s mom’s perspective, and one from Jody’s dad’s. The mom A) is probably telling the version of the story she was told or B) is telling Jody a version that won’t make her father look as bad. She protecting her husband, as a lot of women who are married to men who have committed atrocious acts often do. I think this explains her mother’s drinking problem. She’s numbing herself because she can’t handle the harsh reality of the person she’s chosen to spend her life with. Jody’s father admits “I knew what I was doing” and I think this is the more realistic version of the event. Jody’s mom was trying to protect him, but her dad was being honest. I think it’s important for his character to admit his guilt in order to absolve himself of his sins and hopefully to spare his daughter from the killer’s wrath. It’s a great character turn for both Jody and her dad. As for the two other men involved in the incident, I assume they were saving them for a potential sequel.
Part 5 isn’t Jason
In the original script, Vicki, Jess, Monica and Kelly are all nominees for prom queen, which is why Mary Lou is targeting them. That part get muddled in the final version of the film with all the reshoots. Also in the script, Monica flees the shower and goes to her locker, where she discovers her clothes are either missing or shredded (I forget which), which is why she suspects Vicki has sinister intentions. There’s actually a shot in the final film of her trying to get to the exit, but it’s blocked by a locked gate, so she’s trapped in the locker room.
That makes so much more sense! The other girls being nominees for prom queen would make the story flow so much better. For such a crucial plot point to not be included, maybe they had a very short turnaround time for the edit and it simply got forgotten about.
I love this movie! I remember there was an interview with William Marshall, and he said there tended to be a difference between people who recognized him, white fans usually called him Blacula, but black fans always called him Mamuwalde. If there is a remake, it should have that in the title instead of Blacula, like “Curse of Mamuwalde.” I’ve seen the different types of fledgling vampires in other movies, like in the 1979 Dracula with Frank Langella, where Mina is horrifically ghoulish, creeping in the mines underground, while Lucy is still pretty normal at the end when she’s basically turned. Same thing in the original Salem’s Lot, some vamps still in control of themselves and others were feral.
That's really interesting, it made us think about whether we'd refer to him as Mamuwalde or Blacula 😂 We really enjoyed this film, and hopefully we'll be doing the sequel int he not too distant future! Sam really liked the Frank Langella Dracula, and we both adore Salem's Lot, we even like the 2004 version.....
@@ycft yeah, I thought they did a pretty good job with the 2004 version. I was a kid in the 1970s, and that first “window scene” in the original (don’t want to give spoilers) is still one of the scariest things ever.
Ironically another maritime horror film was released in the same year called Below with Olivia Wilde and Bruce Davison. It was directed by David Twohy of the Pitch Black franchise and produced by Dimension Films. It takes place during WW2 on a submarine and it's sort of a Agatha Christie mystery with supernatural elements. Apparently a troubled production that originally written as an Alien ripoff on a submarine by Darren Aronofsky; the movie was dumped into a couple of theaters to promote its quick video release. Again, it's a deeply flawed film storywise but its well directed with great performances from the cast.
We've never heard of this film, but it sounds like something we'd enjoy! You'd think something with Aronofsky's name attached to it would be more well known. Ironically when we searched it on Google Images we got a load of pictures from Ghost Ship 😂
@@ycft According to Wikipedia the film Aronofsky wrote called Proteus was a cross between a WW2 submarine thriller with an Alien-like sci/horror film. Director David Twohy took over the project and rewrote it as a psychological ghost story/murder mystery instead. They kept Aronofsky's writer/producer credits though I doubt he had anything to do with the production. Because he refused to recut the film to make it PG-13, Dimension just dumped the movie into the theater for a limited run with little marketing earning the film only $605,000. It's only slowly developing a cult following due to streaming/physical media exposure, but most people have never heard of it. It will be released on 4K in November.
@@guillermo9631 David has been reading through some Reddit threads and it does look like within the last 5 years the film has found its footing. Dimension were always bad at dumping films that they didn't believe in, it's such a shame! It's nice that even int he time of streaming, collecting physical media is still a big thing an it's helped so many obscure films make their way into the light. Below looks like one of those films where if it has been made a few years later, they would have put it on a streaming service and it probably would have done well.
Thank You for the Review 😀
Have you seen there's a trailer and release date for Salem's Lot! It looks like it might even get a cinema release in the UK!
@@ycft Yes, Thank You! Excited, but not that impressed. 😀
I didn't care for it. When I saw the original trailer 20 years ago I was so excited. Unfortunately when I saw the movie I was disappointed and found it no different than the return to Salem's lot in terms of quality and found it comedic. The cast was great, a better director would have made a big difference. The score and tone of it just didn't feel like a horror series, it had no atmosphere and wasn't creepy in any way.
We'll never judge anyone that doesn't like this version, we know we're in the minority for this one 😂It is definitely a product of it's time, and if a TV adaptation was done today we could expect something a good quality, probably similar to Midnight Mass. We always appreciate it when people give a proper reason why, rather than just saying "it's shit" 😂
I like it, but I think Lost Voyage is better. Lance Henriksen is horror movie royalty.
Yesterday I was reminded of the show on a tv show about collecting. The theme music immediately came to mind, and one of the female cast. And of course Barnabas Collins! But I couldn't remember any episodes. Me and my siblings watched it after school. Wow 53years since I last saw it?
It's amazing how a good TV theme can stick with you, even if you haven't thought about it in years! We've continued watching the show since we made this video, we're up to episode 366, so still a very long way to go 😂
29:21 do you know where a clip of that version is? I've been trying to look for it but I can't find it. Also sounds really creepy
Sadly we've also not been able to find a clip of it online!
@@ycft that's a shame but do you think that because, in that version of the film, her son rejects her that's why she continues to haunt the town?
@@pumpkinalfie5965 It could definitely be a factor! It might not have been the main catalyst in the beginning but it certainly explains why she is still haunting the town in WWII during the sequel. We're due a rewatch of both versions, when we do we'll see if we can find the scene again. Sam remembers that we don't see him say it, but you can hear it.
Great movie
Great review 😎 Stage fright is one of those films I've never got round to watching. I've only ever heard good things about it, and all the clip's I've seen look really kool. I do love a good giallo . Of all the Argento films to recommend Dracula 3D is the one I would say not to watch 😂 I still Don't know how it turned out so badly or why it has a praying Mantis?🙃 Deep Red, Inferno and Creepers aka phenomenon are my favourite Argento . Love the Goblin soundtracks in most of his films. You would've loved the video shops of the 80s you had about a 30% chance of picking up a badly dubbed Italian film with a disjointed story . If you did it would either be memorable with fantastic camera work, crazy FX and a amazing soundtrack or a complete borefest of people walking about and if your lucky a 2min memorable scene. You never really knew what you were coming home with. Have you guys seen The Keep? Thats a interesting watch. I only thought of it as I mentioned Soundtracks and Tangerine Dreams Score for that is truly amazing.
Glad you enjoyed the video! We aren't even sure why we ended up watching Dracula 3D 😂We'd be lying if we said we were entertained by it, but it is definitely not a good film. The artwork for Creepers looks really cool! David has absolutely no idea that Jennfier Connelly and Donald Pleasense had worked with Argento. Sam was aware, this one was on her list. I suppose our equivalent of the video shops was channel hopping in the dead of night and landing on the first film that looked interesting 😂 David occasionally does that with free films on RUclips, and that's how he discovered the wonderful world of Mexican Luchador films. Another genre with awful dubbing, but the masks help hide it. Is that The Keep from 1983? We've not but that one looks interesting!
@@ycft I always enjoy your videos 😎 I never know what is gonna be next in your review schedule, I really didn't expect to see Ghost ship pop up this morning. I shall watch that later. No classic but still a Good film . With Regards Argento Getting Dracula 3D out the way is probably a good thing as it really is the lowest point of his filmography lacking any of the skill and talent he's known for meaning many Pleasance 😉 surprises when you really get to see his mastery. Creepers certainly does have fantastic artwork if I remember correctly it's another superb Graham Humphreys piece. It's a good little film well worth your time with a batshit concept a superb soundtrack and some glorious dodgy dubbing. Phenomenon is the longer European cut of it, I have seen it once and tbh I don't really remember what extra was in there? I've seen a couple of luchador films, they are definitely an experience 😂 Yeah The Keep 1983 , I won't say much about it as it's a experience. A flawed unfinished masterpiece well worth a watch and then research afterwards as the drama concerning it is very interesting.
@@krs4976 We do like to mix up the type of films we do videos on, it keep it entertaining for us too 😂Over the next few weeks we're going from Predator to Scooby-Doo and then back to Dark Shadows. We'll have to let you know once we've watched these films! David has been trying to convince Sam to do Dracula 3D on the channel for a while, but she refuses to allow that to be the first Argento film we do 😂 Sam has watched a couple of Giallo films over the last few days actually, Death Walks On High Heels and Death Walks At Midnight.
This film has such a cool stylistic look, I'll have to check it out
You know where the blu-ray is if you want to borrow it!
without the scene we knew he died. with the scene we know he died.
Das kenne ich nicht.
I just assumed he had been eaten when he opened the hatch
We thought the same! We always assumed he got the tongue through the forehead.
Actually I liked it better than the old movie because Rutger Houer was the vampire
We always enjoy seeing some love for 2004 !
27:00 This isn’t canonical, unless Susan Hill meant this to be between the lines, but what if it wasn’t Jeanette’s ghost who wanted Kipps to find out what happened there, but Alice’s? What if she hopes she can prevent the death of any other children by trying to lay her sister’s ghost? What if both spirits are active, one benevolent and one malevolent?
That's an interesting theory! They can't escape each other even in death. If they ever do another adaptation that would be a fresh take for the characters.
In an actual fight we all know damn well candyman would wipe the floor with ghostface.
Oh absolutely, but Ghostface would have the advantage of always coming back as a different person, eventually one might get the upper hand.
YES! do a dracula dead and loving it! Love to hear your thoughts on it! Now to your question fav type of vampire. I like all type of vampire films/stories. But I prefer the villainous type like Barlow, Dracula(Not Francis Ford Coppallas), Valek, Deacon Frost, Jerry Dandridge, David, Nosferatu, Viktor, Marlow, Lestat too etc, etc
Sam's been nagging David to watch Dead and Loving It ever since we recorded this, and it will happen! Some strong vampires there! Jerry Dandridge is great, in both incarnations, and Bill Nighy as Viktor, need we say more! We're both very excited to see what Bill Skarsgård does with Nosferatu, we trust him and Robert Eggers to do something cool with the material.
I have a copy!!!
We hope yours arrived in better condition than ours 😂
Well here's my ranking I do love my Friday the 13th movies. 12 Jason takes Manhattan or should really be called Jason takes a boat to Vancouver. 11 for me would have to be Jason goes to hell it just didn't feel like a Friday the 13th movie to me. 10 Freddy versus Jason only reason why I'm raking it like this is because it feels more like a nightmare on elm Street movie then a Friday the 13th. movie. 9 Friday the 13th 3D I mean I like the fact that Jason gets his hockey mask and there was a couple good kills in this movie but the special effects were horrible and the acting was terrible.8 Friday the 13th part 5 the beginning this had quite a few problems but there are more forgiving than the other movies. The one character I really do like in this movie was little Reggie. 7 Jason x Kane hodder did a really good job one of the best kills in the franchise was in this movie.6 Friday the 13th the new blood I think this was the best performance of Kane hodder as Jason but I think this would have moved up higher if the kills were not water down. 5 the og the original Friday the 13th it started it all it's a classic in some weird way I think Pamela Voorhees is more scary than Jason.4 Friday the 13th part 2 everything they did in the original they did a little better in this movie.3 the Friday the 13th remake I love the Jason I love everything in this movie. these to kind of go back and forth between 1 and 2 as of right now number 2 Friday the 13th part 4 the final chapter this movie was like perfect 5/5 for me and my number 1 for me is Friday the 13th part 6 Jason lives perfect another 5/5 for me.
Thanks for sharing your ranking! That's definitely an interesting order, never did we think we'd see Jason X above Part 3 😂 But that's the fun thing about this franchise, there really isn't a wrong way to rank these films. I think when we explore the Nightmare on Elm Street films, Freddy Vs Jason might fare a bit better because like you said it is more of an Elm Street story. We always love seeing Friday the 13th 2009 getting some appreciation! We rewatched it not too long ago actually, it's a great film.
Thank You for the Video 😀
