You can place more neutral entities, while the wild goddess is the representation of hostility towards human beings, another entity could represent nature itself as a neutral element in this conflict. Furthermore, the wild goddess can also represent the conflict between human beings and cannib*****lism

Other than the whole "not losing your foot to frostbite", foot wraps like that help greatly limit the danger of direct conduction (heat wise) of the cold, instead creating a gradual heat gradient across the footwrap, effectively increasing the temperature your foot experiences and thus decreasing the rate heat leaves your foot So yes. Very useful. Conduction can obliterate your body heat (the thick skin does help ofc) so a chunky yet not burdensome amount of footwear is absolutely crucial for survival

Interesting viewpoint on what 'real' religions are, I'd argue the opposite. Real religions start orderly, and its cults, sects, and changes made to make it fit in with regional beliefs that turns those beliefs from an actual religion, into a colection of convenient superstitions.

I'm surprised anthropology is ignoring a 5th source of religion that is so obvious, not sure what to call it, but maybe Founders? I mean there are super well documented cases of religions forming from the ideas of a single individual (Bahá'u'lláh for the Bahá'í Faith for example). I find it really weird that this isn't considered at least one of the sources since there is so much evidence to back it up...

So glad you included the Irish Elk. They're a fascinating creature and my favourite megafauna (although I am a bit biased). My favourite anecdote about them is the actual theory that they went extinct because their antlers became too large and they kept getting caught in trees. It's hard to do their sheer size justice in pictures but you're welcome any time in the Natural History Museum in Dublin where you can come face-to-face with a whole collection of Irish Elk fossils. Although it's more like face-to-legs. You'd have to crane your neck to see their faces. :D

Another method to create religious beliefs or figures without creating prophets is to posthumously deify a character. What comes to my mind is Guan Yu an figure in chinese history that become deified for there acts over his life. A character long ago could have pulled off a great feat such as saving a hunt by catching large amounts of game in a short time. At first the story of this person might be retold with gradually distorted details until generations down the line the individual may be regarded as a god of the hunt.

Woah 10k almost 15k, crazy how quickly that happened. I remember the original maps video releasing and being excited cause I’d only seen the intro videos and shorts and now it’s been a whole year. Wonderful work, it’s really nice seeing more people in this weird niche and knowing you’re not alone. If it makes any difference part of the value of these videos to the rest of us fellow Worldbuilders is just seeing someone else’s process and learning something from it. It really helps to understand how messy progress and development, but from that you start to get these little bits and pieces that come together and documenting all that is really cool to see just how your thoughts and ideas can develop. Seeing all your progress and work in not just the art and design but also the video processes was really inspiring, I have some friends that are also kind of into worldbuilding and so we’re thinking of making a RUclips channel or blog or newsletter of some sort this summer and I’d have to say seeing this channel was one of the things that really inspired me to even consider this idea. So truly thank you for a wonderful year of storytelling. And here’s to many more. -jan Poni

Always Coming Home, and The Telling, both by Ursula Le Guin, are both great examples of stories in which religion plays a central narrative role. I would recommend reading both (The Telling first, as it is a much more conventional novel than Always Coming Home) if you’re interested in this topic!

Another way to create a map is to take a note for dnd Start with the core location your character originates from and work outwards filling in details as your character explores. This allows you to avoid a lot of tedium of drawing a world just keep a basic guideline for what lies beyond the protagonists "fog of war"

Aluminum was not available until the industrial era. I think Zinc was the same. If you are including modern materials and uses, like aluminum or diamond for cutting, gold, platinum, and silver do have uses. Silver, especially, was used in photography for a long time.

Forgive me if you've already mentioned this, but a very old 'school' of religious analysis is Euhemerism. The concept that a real human being could become deified, or perhaps the memory or story of the person becomes subsumed into the mythology of an already existing deity. You could see this in the Jungian lens, where a real life human being represented or embodied a psycho-religious archetype so closely to the worshippers, that their deeds become undistinguished from a deity that also fulfils this archetype. Or they perhaps give birth to the worship of a new deity all together, possibly connected to new rites that the person established (giving more association with the idea of ritual as a basis for religion). This overlaps with an Astrological idea that people's stories become attributed to deities because of star-signs they had in life that people remembered them by later on, also being associated with deities or spirits. Consider that ancient people had less light pollution, and utilized the stars in the night sky to remember things, especially through oral tradition which can become warped over time. If the religion already had a concept of worshipping ancestor spirits, then it isn't a big leap to suggest that the deeds of accumulative ancestors over a very long time can give birth to new gods, or new mythology of existing gods or spirits. Examples of a real person becoming deified is the Roman Imperial Cult, and even the Pharaohs of Egypt. The former of which having an Astrological element to it also. Euhemerism is a really simple but broad concept and can interpenetrate each of the schools you mentioned. Conversely, Euhemerism can also be the reverse of what I mentioned previously. Deities in a mythic tradition can become characterized as real people in the past. An example of this is how Irish monks portrayed the Tuatha Dé Danann as ancient human beings, while they were actually the pre-Christian pantheon of the Pagan Irish.

1:33 For a straight answer (if you haven't found one since posting this video) on the same time of ending for the pleistocene and the paleolithic: I'm pretty sure that whenever any geologic time unit comes to an end, so do all its subdivisions, so when the neogene period ended, so did the pliocene epoch and the piacenzian age. Kinda like when a day ends, so does the last hour of that day, and the last minute of that hour, and so on, but just bigger and with units that aren't defined by duration. Don't confuse me for a geologist though, I'm not, I had to look up those examples because I wanted more layers than just two

This is a wonderful video and I am quite interested in the upcoming story you are trying to make. I have my own ideas for stories. One of them is like a self-insert where a mental copy placed into a chimeric genetic body created by Alien Space Bats had been sent into the Cretaceous period. The main character is in his second life because his first life had been spent as a control system of an army of mutant humanoids created by the Eurasian Technocracy in order to fight off possible extraterrestrial feline creatures who wield mecha suits until that world got mysteriously destroyed. Now the main character has to deal with Mesozoic lifeforms and the upcoming mass extinction event caused by asteroids or the volcanic Decan Traps in India. Another story idea I had is where two beings, crafted by Alien Space Bats, are sent to an Earth 100,000 or more years into the past. One of them is a cyborg man and the other is a female powerful being with terrifying inhuman looks and a cynical mindset due to traumatic past lives or souls. The cyborg man and the powerful being will have to work together to have a good life as well as saving humanity from itself. This means doing some stuff to transform the various human races of the time like Neanderthals, Denisovans, and Homo Sapiens into a new post human super race. Inspiration for that stuff came from stuff like Neon Genesis Evangelion, H.G. Well's The Shape of Things to Come, and other stuff. Anyway, good luck on your upcoming story and other projects!

As someone who’s writing a pantheon I’ve typically considered how social stratification effects who society held reverence for which god an example was a war god who was primarily revered by woman said to be the fatherly protector of mothers who’ve lost sons, daughters fathers, sisters brothers, others lovers as well women who are made victims by wars waged by foolish, greedy and wicked men, this god is typically found in households or were women typically gather for socialization.

I started my D&D campaign about a year ago and I wanted to make the world with original deities. My method of creating them was (maybe?) a bit unorthodox. I looked at all the various figurines and statuettes I have on top of my bookshelf. They're from some of my favorite stories including but not limited to, Hellboy, Alien, RWBY, Fire Emblem and more. I decided that each figure would be one god in my world. They started with some pretty basic characterizations including, Sun Deity, Ocean Deity, Nature Deity, Forge Deity, War Deity, etc. I set down a basic history of the gods and how they interacted with the world. I didn't worry about getting everything characterized and all the beliefs set in stone before I started (that's a lie, I was super worried but I had to start the campaign) and I let the gods and the way people in the world worship them evolve as the players explored the world. I also let the players influence how the gods developed based on how they interact with them and "worship" them in their own way. In the party I have a Cleric, a Ranger who worships a deity, a fighter pretending to be a Paladin and a Druid who hates all the gods. So that's definitely help things grow and evolve over time.
