Any uploads on revisions, firmware, or the future Pro version coming to RUclips?
we've been slow on the pro this year, too many pressing customer projects. i should be able to pick up on it soon, we have all material for prototypes sitting on the bench for quite a while...
Excellent and clever design and logic. Chapeau.
Where I can buy it? Or dyi kit etc. They are selling this kit for almost 200Euro. For that price I can have Professional one.
depends on where you live?
Beware of the Deans connectors, they are often produced with poor tolerances and deliver a connection with high resistance, if the terminals of the plug and socket aren't exactly at the same offset angle and parallel along the mating conductor then the contact area can be very small (ie just one corner of the terminal). the circular xt60 / xt90 connectors are far more forgiving by design and much more reliable in practice.
This is way out of my budget so I'm gonna DIY one... But do you know if 1000VA of 24VAC rectified power supply would be suitable? I have a variac in front of those and I can over volt them just a bit so I can have any voltage between 0 and 30. I will obviously put a FULL BRIDGE RECTIFIER, not a puny single diode rectifier on it, but would I need some smoothing capacitors on that part?
kWeld pulls 12V * 1500A = 18,000 Watts from its supply during a pulse...
@@wearethewatt2950 Ok if I put a super capacitor bank on it?
@@wearethewatt2950 And also how long is the pulse?
@@TomboRectify like the one we sell? (kCap) :-)
@@TomboRectify that depends on the type and thickness of the material that you are welding, so from 0 to maybe 50ms. Longer pulses don't make sense, as then the action turns from spot welding to material heating. This all is a complex subject, so did you find the respective user forums? There are several: endless-sphere.com/sphere/threads/kweld-next-level-diy-battery-spot-welder.89039/ forum.esk8.news/t/kweld-spot-welder/6926 www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/guesses-on-what-i-am-attempting-here/msg2806494/#msg2806494
Hello! Thank you for this project. I get my kit HW R3.3 yesterday 28.09.23 - did I get it with the newest version of FV or it need to be updated??
Yes it comes with most recent firmware!
@@wearethewatt2950 Tkank you. Last question: Is any calibration instruction that need to be preformed during first start?
@@tomaszjaje yep, just follow the operating manual.
@@wearethewatt2950 ok I saw that in operation manual v 3.0 are some instructions but in 5.0 there is not. So I would ask if new one is still necessary;) thanks
@@tomaszjaje there is no v5 operation manual. the most recent one is v3. note that there are two documents, an assembly manual (which is v5) and an operation manual (v3).
I just bought one, had no idea they had been around this long I thought like 3 years at tops. Means that its a very good spot welder.
Have fun with it :-) Actually I'm working on a successor (although higher price range), so there will be new videos in this channel after quite some time.
@@wearethewatt2950 Thanks, sure will. :) Successor you say? There can be only one, and can this really be better than the first one? That's impossible.
@@dtiydr I am working on a Pro version. Desktop unit with AC input, plug and play, 4 times output power, fast repetition, water cooled electrodes. Basically summarizing all the community feature requests.

Weld Diagonally on the spots to keep the electrodes the maximum distance apart !!! I Love This welder!!!
My thoughts too...
Sole!!!! How do I buy one???????
webshop www.keenlab.de 🙂
Did you weld any thing, at all? Or we assume that you welded some thing on the long metal bar? Shady dialogue. Thanks, though.
didn't you watch the main video? Also we have a website where we are selling the kit...
I'd rather have copper buss bars
The new kWeldPro will have nickel plated copper bus bars, because it runs at much higher currents. For kWeld, I had calculated that brass is more than good enough - it contributes only for a few % of the total resistance. Copper needs plating to prevent oxidation and is harder to machine, hence more costly.
Sec 0:53 .. 243J!!!! you scared the crap out of me !!!! Where did you buy those electrodes?
nothing bought here, all designed and made by myself :-)
When it all begun.
Still haven't actually used mine for what I bought it for ( replacing the 18650s of my Philips Robust Collection HR1379/00 Hand Blender ) but just viewing this video again after watching the reviews of more recent - made in China - spot-welders _really_ calms my soul about buying _this_ Kit back then 😗
I find it helps to add a stock cube.

Hm 4 busbars 🤓
A Very nice Spotwelder, it seems very well designed & made of a "very high quality" for the price. 😊👌👍 I recently purchased a K-Weld Spotwelder, which im actually just waiting for it to be delivered. Im wanting to power the Spotwelder by either 2 ways Option 1 - Could I run it through a K-Cap capacitor bank then off to a "Normal Variable Bench Power Supply" ? I have a DIY 240V AC Variable Bench Power Supply with output specs: 0- 44V DC 0-20A With fine Variable increments & Constant Voltage & current settings. Would this be adequate enough to power the Spotwelder through the Capacitor Bank ? Option 2 - I may run this K-Weld spotwelder off some - Headway 38120S "HP" 8Ah cells in a 4S / 3P configuration, these Cells can deliver up to 200A "Continuous"per cell so a 4S/ 3P battery would deliver around 13.2V at 24Ah Capacity & 600A "Continuous" so should see peak current far higher than this. Would this work adequately ?? I know I could use your recommended 3S lipo battery but I thought this battery type & current rating (I mentioned above) would be a much safer chemistry (lifepo4) & also last far longer (lifespan) under these high current & demanding surge conditions. What are you thoughts ? And which way would you prefer out of these two options. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thankyou 😊🙏
Thanks :-) Can you maybe send me an email? Using YT for support is a bit awkward. Your bench supply should be well suitable. Your battery should also be good, but as we don't know their actual ESR I'd start with 4S1P and add more P as long as the current stays within limit (2kA max).
@@wearethewatt2950 OK 2kW is the "limit" of K-Weld Spotwelder, Thanks I didn't know that 👍 I think I will start with 4S/1P 38120hp cells as you suggested & calibrate to see what the Spotwelder K-Watts I'm running, then go from there. Any issues I will certainly contact you via your E-mail. Thankyou very much for responding. 😊🙏
Does the current version use the same block and is the software up to date ?

I have one of these welders and I'm very happy with it. Very well made and it works great with my Turningy lipo nanotech 5ah battery.
If the FETs stay on for some time, the current should accumulate due to inductance to some maximum value, when the FETs are then switched off, so ZCS switch on. But at switch off you have maximum current and maximum switching losses, and without a flyback diode how is this energy depleted? Like I see what looks effectively like a buck converter without the freewheeling diode. The freewheeling circuit will be half of the power since it starts at the peak current and decreases to zero. I thought that was what was killing my cheapo $25 ebay special along with poor gate drive. At least on one occasion, a FET failed so spectacularly that it somehow welded itself to the PCB and removing it required lots of heat and force with pliers. Chipping away at the plastic encasing and the stuck metal tab that welded itself to the copper despite being soldered.I did get a chance to see the silicon die on those and was impressed with how huge it was. So used to thinking of transistors as microscopic things but seeing the die that was maybe 4mm by 6mm was just amazing!
in kWeld, this is handled by an array of large TVS diodes. As you have experienced, the MOSFETs alone cannot handle the amount of inductive kickback at these current levels.
I'm a bit confused, when looking to buy, i see all these other add ons...what is needed to build 18650 battery packs? do i need the additional power supply with 12v input? do i need the supercapacitor module? nothing is explained.
Have a look at the online manuals which give detailed description, as well as the discussion forums at esk8 and endlesssphere mainly. As this is a self assembly kit you need to spend some effort to dig into. The simple answer is, the standard kWeld kit plus a Lipo or starter battery (again, models are listed online) is enough to start.
@@wearethewatt2950 Ok thanks, i already have a car booster pack that should work nicely...so just the base unit is all I need? along with the consumable supplies of course..
@@rickc2222 Car booster packs often have output protection and/or overrated Lipo cells, I don't recommend using them for kWeld as they might quickly fail (if they provide enough current first place).

FIY: The purpose of that slit in the nickel strip is to drive the current into the battery, and up through the other weld spot. This results in almost equal current in both spots. This means you must place the electrodes ACROSS the slit, not along it. The slotted strips are proper battery strips optimized for battery welding. This in contrast to the cheap plain strips which are not battery strips, just simple nickel band. They are somewhat usable (and are widely used) but they essentially short-circuit the welding current so that about 70-90% of the welding current passes straight between the electrodes via the nickel strip. This is very wastefull in terms of heat, welder load, and battery usage. Also results in excess of poor or failed welds.
LMAO
Epic :D can you sell one? :)
yes, can you read the video description? :-) :-)
Simply the best! Am saving money for this

The gap in the plate should be between the electrodes. The current path will be different and welding will be more efficient. This gap is specially made.
yup, exactly. I only saw that after the video was online *facepalm*
Hope to get mine shortly!!!!
Hello, your website shows super capacitors in stock. Can I use a bank of several capacitors to power this welder? How many capacitors would be ideal? I do have a 50A 0-18V power supply with CV CC to keep charging the caps. Thank you.
Capacitance should be >> 10F such that the voltage doesn't drop too much from a pulse. kWeld isn't a classical CD welder that completely drains the caps. 12V is optimal, 30V max. Cap bank ESR is most critical. 1500A target current, welding unit contributes ~ 3mR. Add another 1mR for a typical weld spot.
