I totally underestimated the demand, and ran out of stock by just pre-orders in less than a week. I plan another batch right after having received the current one. I'll inform again through the newsletter. But in order help me estimate the demand, I have just implemented an "inform me on availability" button for the sold out products that puts you on a waiting list when you click it.
I am happy to announce that the next batch of kWeld is in production. I accept pre-orders through my shop. All pre-order products are on sale with a 10% discount until Nov 30.
Have you tried to weld 0.2mm nickle strip to the positive side of a 2300mA 26650 A123 cell. I have found this to be most difficult. The neg side has been easy and the standard 18650 cells have been easy as well. I have messed around with the standard microwave transformer spot welders and now made a very crude version of your system but I think my Lipo maybe weak and I need better electrodes . I just tried cutting a slot in the nickle and punching some points in the nickle to help keep the weld current from leaking away from the weld point but still had very weak welds. Very impressed with your welded and If I give up messing around with my unit I think i will buy your kit.
Haven't done exactly this, but the welder is powerful enough to melt holes into bare 0.3mm nickel (no slots) and into the battery can. It depends on the battery as well of course, but the recommended Turnigy nanotech is up to this task.
Wow, this is a really neat spot welder, but do you need a 250a battery for this or is 100a enough? What about a battery/power supply with a big capacitor connected in parallel?
The battery in the video is acutally *not* suitable, it swells too quickly from being oveloaded. I have just made promising tests with a 650A Lipo (Turnigy nano-tech 3S 5Ah 130C). They are not much more expensive, but that battery did neither heat up nor swell at all after ~100 pulses. The current is also much higher: 1300A+. Supercapacitors also work very well, but their internal resistance needs to be very low: 10 milliohm, better 5 milliohm. Car batteries also have proven to work. My spot welder is just a smart power switch, and it can be used with any powerful DC voltage source in the range between 12V and 30V.
Almost, but wrong. It is two dogs snoring in perfect synchronicity :-) HAve you seen this video (you need to watch it twice to understand it) ruclips.net/video/7scAz4080uY/видео.html

That´s Wonderfull improvements!! Soon I will order one of this spot welder.
Superb project you have there. Very nice work indeed. Cheers!!
Thanks :-))
Can this do copper strips? What settings would work to spot well copper strip to 18650 cells?
No, I've tested that. This asks for a pulse laser welder...

Can I use a 6P4S as source
no, 30V input max. But 12V is optimal anyway, more voltage means more heat in the battery (as it needs a higher ESR to keep the current target).
new stock is coming, and I've just opened for pre-orders at the shop! --> www.keenlab.de/index.php/product-category/kspot-welder-kit/

Curious to know how you calculate the amp and resistance ?
The current is measured via MOSFET Rdson.
Juhu....;)
