Music at Minch
Добавлен 27 мар 2020
This channel was set up when Covid-19 lockdown started as a way of keeping the folk of Minchinhampton in touch with their church whilst they couldn't attend it in person. It is the personal selection of their Director of Music, Warwick Cole. Now that the church is reopened for public worship, new uploads will include trailers for our Music at Minch concert series, as well as occasional performances from friends.

Goetze and Gwynn organs: Episode 3
We're very much looking forward to the Minchinhampton organ being restored by Goetze and Gwynn later this year. And here is another fine example of their work, the organ at Magdalene College Cambridge. (See the previous videos of Tomkins on the chamber organ and Byrd on the Tudor organ.)
We will be having a complete new choir division designed by G and G and if this instrument is anything to go by it will be excellent. So here are a few snippets of Bach posted here with thanks to the College, but also to encourage and thank all those who have been tireless in fundraising for our organ restoration project.

Byrd Voluntarye for my Lady Nevelle

For the past couple of weeks, Holy Trinity Minchinhampton has been host to a very fine Tudor organ made by Goetze and Gwynn. It has been used in a recording made by the choir Resurgam. We're very much looking forward to Goetze and Gwynn restoring our own venerable organ to its intended glory, but in the meantime it seemed to good an opportunity to miss to make a video of some Tudor music. Here'...

Goetze and Gwyn are now contracted to restore the organ at Minch, which is great news. Here's a light-hearted report on a couple of things not specifically in the contract but do need fixing!

A staple of the cello repertoire ... what more needs to be said about such a beautifully delicate piece? This performance is in memory of John Lawrence, a mutual friend, at whose funeral we played this piece earlier this year.
Franz Schubert: Der Neugierige

Here's another of David Popper's arrangements for cello and piano of a lovely Schubert song. Der Neugierige comes from Die schöne Müllerin (see translation below). And for once no multi-tracking required! Dominica Hamilton came to accompany. More to follow Der Neugierige performed by Warwick Cole (cello) and Dominic Hamilton (piano); arrangement by David Popper (from 'Perles Musicales') Transla...
Franz Schubert: Du bist die Ruh

Here's another arrangement of a Schubert song by the nineteenth-century cellist David Popper. You may notice that Minchinhampton is host to an arresting piece of sculpture by Peter Barnes, reinterpreting Da Vinci's last supper (www.minchchurch.org.uk/worship/special-events/the-last-supper-sculpture.php), so a few shots of the work have been included in this performance. Schubert's text is as fo...
Boellmann Ave Verum

Here's a beautiful but rarely-sung setting of the Ave Verum. Ben has been very kindly helping us by singing with Minch choir post-lockdown, and we're very grateful that he came to sing this for us. Words and translation as follows Ave verum corpus, natum de Maria Virgine, vere passum, immolatum in cruce pro homine cuius latus perforatum fluxit aqua et sanguine: esto nobis prægustatum in mortis ...

This is such a beautiful little piece, originally a song for All Soul's day. 'May all souls rest in piece, those whose torment is over ... those who have left this world, may all souls rest in piece.' It seems appropriate for these troubled times.
Carissimi: Plorate filii Israel

In case you missed it, here is a movement from our Tea-Time concert yesterday (March 5) sung by the Perfect Family - plus a few friends. It's the final chorus of Carissimi's Jephtha, sung beautifully here by Nick and Catherine Perfect and their teenage daughters. We'll be inviting them back! Incidentally, this was filmed on a mobile phone so the filming isn't as steady as we'd like, but it was ...

We're doing the concert twice - once in the morning in Cheltenham, and again in Minchinhampton in the afternoon. So d...
Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel: Nur vor euch ihr schönsten Augen

Here's a delightful little chamber cantata by Stölzel that we performed in Minchinhampton on November 6 at the Tea-Time Concert. This was part of our rehearsal earlier in the week, and we put the camera on to share it with you.

This is Stölzel's earliest surviving cantata written for Advent Sunday 1720. Together with its companion piece Komm herein, du gesegneter des Herrn, it was performed either side of the sermon on December 1, 1720. As with all the other cantatas from that year, the text begins with a biblical verse (Dictum). There then follows an inventive recitative where Stölzel interweaves Luther's chorale par...
Stölzel cantata: Fürchte dich nicht (Annunciation 1721)
Просмотров 8613 года назад
Stölzel's cantata for the Annunciation from his first annual cycle, originally performed at Schloss Friedenstein, Gotha, on March 25, 1721. As with the other performances, we think this is the first time this music has been performed since the C18th. The first movement sets a text from Luke's Gospel: as the angel says to Mary 'Be not afraid'. Stölzel cleverly weaves in the chorale 'Vom Himmel h...

G F Kauffmann: Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her
The acoustics of the church contribute greatly to the overall sound.
I remember this being played by Joshua Bell at a funeral of a dear friend. She did her best to promote my music, to recognised at lunchtime concerts, I used to do. I have never played it in public myself, but have recorded on you tube with my own backing track during lockdown. I suppose, I was looked after like the Polish violinist in the film. They say don't hide your light in a bush but we all do out of embarrassment. This tune even though simple has complex feelings as it moves on in the upper register of the violin.
I like!
Felicitări! Exceptional totul.❤❤❤
if someone’s face comes to my mind before her name, that lady is the one I miss and long for.
One is playing in socks, the other in crocs!
It’s what made us feel comfortable at the time! At least individually we weren’t wearing socks and crocs simultaneously. That is most definitely a bad look!
@@musicatminch1670 oh I dunno, crocs and socks 🧦 are cozy in winter. I love this video. I have watched it over a hundred times. Thanks 🙏 for sharing such joy 😊
absolutely gorgeous and executed so well by two talented musicians
Dear Sonia - thinking of you when i hear this. Yr lavender jacket....love - Marina❤🎉
Awesome piece, can’t imagine how one could compare this with any other 🥳🤫soooo beautiful ❤🌺❤️🩹
Rest in peace, Dame Maggie Smith
I have heard other recordings of this work but none as moving. This violinist makes his instrument sing showing a whole depth and range of emotion. And the accompanying is equally as sensitive. Bravo!
O filme é lindo, as músicas são lindas. Te leva as lágrimas se voce se deixar levar por ela. ❤❤
Calm and gentle piano and violin. Thank you so much.
Exquisite. Thank you.
Divine, and deeply moving!!! ❤❤❤
Very fine beautiful sacred Cantata, and exquisite performance!! 🎶 🎵 ❤❤❤
Truly delightful!!! ❤❤❤
The acoustics, and the gentlemen playing the piano and violin have such depth, gentleness, and extraordinary power and kindness! Every time I hear this performance I feel like I’m being transported to Heaven to be with our heavenly Father. I have said to friends that what I want most when I get to Heaven is to play the violin, viola, and cello. I’m sure they are looking down and smiling when they hear each and every one of your performances. Thank you so much and may God bless you both!❤ Debra S.
Muito obrigada por nos presentear com essa belíssima interação!!!!
The theme of the ladies in lavender is A Masterpiece. That simple A masterpiece, when you close your eyes and just listen to it, it elevate you to a higher dimension.
I searched the web for the best rendition and this is IT! The tempo is great, the nuance is present, and although change in colors might be nice, this playing truly authenticates the performer's concept that good playing and articulation suffice. Wonderful performance!
That's most kind, thank you. The thing about changing the colours - I did toy with the idea of changing them but on that organ without assistants it would have been very complicated, not to mention the constraints of Covid regulations. So I elected to keep it simple and let Pachelbel speak for himself, so much one can. Apologies for all the clatter and rattles from the instrument .... it's now being mended.
WONDERFUL!
Is this arrangement published? I played this piece many years ago and would like to do so again on viola. However, I am unable to find it anywhere. I believe my teacher had the music and lent it to me. (I am 70 now and was probably about 22 when I played it.)
Hello, yes, I bought a single-sheet copy second-hand about 20 years ago. Basically it's the organ version with the 'tune' on the cello. There is a trumpet version as well, I think. Hope that helps!
@@musicatminch1670 Who is the publisher? I’m supposing the cello part transposed down an octave would work.
Oops. I meant transpod UP an octave. There is another video with the cello playing in that octave, but accompanied by a piano.
願わくば 生で聴きたいなあ
Thank you very much - most kind. Long live Stölzel!
Sehr schöne Musik und sehr gut musiziert!
Bravo!!!!
Thank you so much for this beautiful performance. Lways in awe of singers that perform in so many languages so well.

Hey I recognise that chapel!
What about the camera work?
Beautiful.
Este é um profissional do instrumento 🎸 violino meus parabéns estamos diante de um mestre verdadeiro.
Wonderful blend. We'll done Warwick
Great sound from a beautiful organ!
Quite remarkable for an organ with a truncated keyboard and (apparently) no stops! Almost a portative organ?!
There are in fact 6 stops, but there are all around the side of the instrument so you have to set it all up before you play. Full details are here www.goetzegwynn.co.uk/organ/st-teilos-church-organ-at-st-fagans-cardiff/
Love this so much! Grow your following with "promosm"!!
Thank you so much for this, Warwick and John - a beautiful and touching performance
