- Well and truly into yet another lockdown. Who'd have thought it, back last March?
So here's the antidote to Pachelbel's Canon: his Ciacona in D minor. Four bars and a mere five notes serve as the basis to a seemingly endless display of invention that lasts a good five minutes. Bravo Pachelbel! It is quite extraordinary music. I was toying with the idea of trying to illustrate the music with variations in the registration, but why bother? The music is invention itself, so here it is, played simply on the Great Open Diapason. Purists might object, but hey, the music is so good, why cloud it with extra seasoning?
Thanks as ever to Lois - grounded in Blightey for the time-being whilst attending her Tübingen Uni lectures online - for her video skills. Look out for the new crib, still in place for the season of Christmas.
And apologies for the clatter from the pedal action - hopefully we will get that sorted with the promised organ rebuild.
fine playing and filming -thanks Lois and Warwick
I like!
I searched the web for the best rendition and this is IT! The tempo is great, the nuance is present, and although change in colors might be nice, this playing truly authenticates the performer's concept that good playing and articulation suffice. Wonderful performance!
That's most kind, thank you. The thing about changing the colours - I did toy with the idea of changing them but on that organ without assistants it would have been very complicated, not to mention the constraints of Covid regulations. So I elected to keep it simple and let Pachelbel speak for himself, so much one can. Apologies for all the clatter and rattles from the instrument .... it's now being mended.
Nice one Dr Cole
Thank you Mr Cole
