Journal notes: -Some adjustments are needed on the flat serves but the sliders are looking better now. Not sure if I'll lose the progress by serving those faster than I do here, though -Kick serves are pretty reliable now if I get the toss in a certain range. Still need more proper weight transfer on these -Overall consistency is a lot better, with a majority of missed serves only being a few i...

love the angle! you should put the cam behind u if possible! we could get a better look from your pov
swing vision hangs from the top of the fence
That would definitely help to better show the pace and weight of my shots, but would also make it harder to see where the ball lands on the other side. One of these days I can do a court-level recording :)
Bon voyage cruise ship! Around 2:03.
I absolutely had to leave that footage in here haha. People need to know about all the kinds of shenanigans!
No bent elbow during shadow swing magically!
Shadow swing = perfect form every time :)
Nice hitting Jeff
First I thought it is some videogame
Haha now I want to add a hand camera of someone controlling me on a video game controller
What are you working on?
Working on the take back and keeping the racket closer to the neck and more inward on the drop - and trying to make it a habit. Then I'll be able to do more verticality work and higher speeds (without mistiming the contact point since the earlier parts of the motion will be figured out), but I'm just working on one thing at a time
loosen up the take back - looks like your arm is quite tight and straight before the trophy position. Trophy is a little disjointed with your palm not staying down long enough and racket head is way too open as it goes to the ball. need to through the butt cap up and away to the ball more...
You are playing some great tennis Jeff, keep up the good work my friend. I live in Florida also and it was a hot one today when I was training my friend. Thank you for posting this video and I really like watching you play tennis my friend.
looks good but watch on your legs its seems to be foot fault , idk maybe jump higher 😀
Yeah, I'm not doing any verticality work just yet but hopefully will be soon! I still think I'm partially in the air every time before I make contact. I don't think it's ever a foot fault since I don't move or turn my foot early enough
This is so cool Jeff and what a great interview my friend.
Great serving my friend. Thank you for posting this video and I am going to work on more spin on my second serve. This was an excellent video my friend.
The ball was in 2:23
Yup, every single player across all the collegiate matches gave at least one bad line call that I saw. These kids are cheaters lol
No one can play the net. All baseline. Artificial equipment. Silly 2HBH. That’s todays tennis.
Different times now. Ball is a lot faster
@@onemanuniverseorr1178 and the MLB is beyond fast now and the same wood is used as 100 years ago. And the NFL QB throws much stronger and further now and the same pigskin is used now as 50 years ago. You don’t alter the equipment in a real sport as then you water the sport down and the stats are forever altered. The MLB and NFL are the worlds most difficult sports too. Add in the NBA where the basketball has not changed. When you alter the equipment it artificially inflates the performance and stats. The ability has to Come from within.
@@TimTheMusicMan okay you can’t compare tennis to basketball and football. They are wayyyyyy too different. There wasn’t a single point that was approachable by net here. If they did they would’ve gotten passed or lobbed.
@@onemanuniverseorr1178 I stand by my point.
good work man, try staying closer to the middle of the court for the ad T, i believe it will help
Definitely a possibility for the future but I actually moved over on the ad side in general because: 1. You get a better angle and don't miss as much in the net on the out-wide bombs, 2. If you can hit the slider serve with good accuracy, it doesn't really make a huge difference as to how the opponent will be able to return (AKA they'll still be fully stretched or will get aced), and 3. I increase the likelihood that my first ball after the serve is a forehand by a huge percentage. Certainly if I am playing someone with a good stretch return, I'll have to move closer to the middle - but still experimenting with a lot of these things! Thanks for watching :)
Looking good. Love the consistency with your placement
I feel like you need a bit more leg drive, what do you think?
Ya. Just working on one thing at a time - for now it’s just the arm motion going behind the back and contact point
Awesome view!
That serve at :37 is about 107mph, btw.
Cool! How'd you calculate that one?
@@jeffcohntennis I got a hold of a formula from an now defunct website that had javascript calculations. The calculation is based on whether the video is recorded at 30 or 60 fps, then count the number of frames from when the racquet contacted the ball to when it hits the ground (I counted 27). The last number is the number of feet in the air between the two. I usually don't change the default (60 feet), I just look for T serves in general and figure it is close enough. That said at 60 feet the result is 107.23mph; at 61 feet it is 109.32. Those are both initial speeds, which is what is shown at the tournaments.
@jeffcohntennis So, I just did your very first serve. Counted 25 frames. And guessed 58.7 feet. Calculation said that it was 112.88 mph.
Nice serving bot
Really cool!
These serves as bombs! What rating level are you? Also, how tall are you? Keep it up!
Haha thank you but this was around 6PM-onwards at night; I can only truly bomb the serves during the daytime when the sun is out and the ball flies through the court :) I think I'm around an 8 UTR but my serve is better than most 8s, so who knows? I haven't been playing any matches but hopefully that changes in the next few months! Stay tuned! I'm a little bit taller than Federer :)
Gettimg a big boost from the strings and racket. Would love to see more leg drive and fluent flow to the serve. Looks like the serve percentaes in is really working so i wouldnt change too much
*comes by at night and rips the pickleball lines off*
Haha right on! And they use rollaway pickleball nets on this court. What I want to know is...why aren't the pickleball people going to the public basketball courts instead with their rollaway nets and tape?
Looking good. At first I thought I saw Ruud out there.
Haha you got me, Tom! I normally don’t wear the Yonex shirt since I found my new favorite t-shirt brand…but I guess here it was meant to be
Curious at how you arrive at the "96 mph actualized" number from the average 80 mph number? Is it always a 20% (80 + 16) formula to adjust for SwingVision's calculations?
I'd say my serve speeds are 20% faster than what SwingVision says, and my groundstroke speeds are probably 15% faster. I sort of confirmed this through: 1) SwingVision's admissions about how they calculate speeds, 2) an actual radar gun measurement of my game, and 3) videos I've seen of players similar or better to my level measured by SwingVision that I imported. I think it depends on the level of the player as to how off their calculations are, too (like, I'm pretty sure they give club players, etc. more credit on all their speeds). Also, some of the SwingVision numbers are wildly wrong and complete outliers (but because I hit so many serves here, it's probably a better sample size) - it's for this reason I really don't recommend their app besides the video editing and match scoring
Really nice. Looks like you may have taken the same online course I did (or perhaps they are all the same at the higher levels). Perhaps try to be more Djokovic: higher, looser carry of your racket during the toss (creates more energy potential) and higher left hand then pull it savagely done and across to your right rib cage (more energy potential, causes more rotation). Those were key for me. Watching Djokovic's loose wristed, high carry of his racket during the toss was an "aha" moment for me. He's not a 2 meter tall bomber, and his technique is more achievable for us mortals. But if that doesn't work for you, what you are already doing is great.
Which online course did you take? I'm looking at trying to improve my serve.
I’d 6-0 6-0 you…. ..in my dreams
I can hit harder
nice rallies. But that white wall, is it troubling you guys to keep eyes on the ball?
I think it looks worse in the video than in-person! But I had trouble seeing at the end when the sun went down 😂
Great to see a fellow player with dedication.Let's keep on grinding until we get that sweet racquet drop.
Maan, Mr. Bazooka is firing some serious shots! You're dealing with the balls really well though. Butter touch at 4:04.
Nice serving dude! Do you ever find your tosses too high and having to wait too long in the trophy pose?
Thanks man! So basically, my technique currently doesn't have an optimal "lasso whip". I get a lot of my power from a short period of racket drop lag, but it should be a little longer. And so I've been trying to fix this (which I'm able to do perfectly if I just toss a ball and shadow swing), but what happens is if I toss the ball at my preferred medium height, then I don't actually have the time to do the full whip motion and still be able to then snap down on top of the ball. So occasionally you'll see in these videos where I toss it higher to try to give myself more time to prep the enhanced swing, but because I've never tossed this high in my life it sometimes winds up being slightly too high of a toss and I then have to wait for the ball to drop. So...I need about 15-20 more videos before I figure out the solution haha
Very nice
Nice serving. Strong arm. Thumbs up.
Good stuff. Thumbs up. Groin injuries are bad. Movement is so important. You should probably rest, but it's hard to stay off the court.
