    New sub grand work mate 💪 Quick one I’m confused on the vapour control layer, if you will. Doesn’t this lock in moisture or are we expecting subtle gaps and layers to never get there? I’m trying to replace a door in a timber frame house with a window. So layers are (outside in): Cladding Battons Breathable membrane 18mm OSB PIR insulation 9mm OSB Mineral Wool insulation Then Vapour Control Layer Then plasterboard Thanks very much quality content, you look like you have fun making these ^_^

      Hello Ryan! Thanks for the lovely comment fella! Really appreciate that! And yeah,... I have so much fun doing these and starting a new build in a week or so's time! To answer the question the vapour barrier helps to prevent moisture getting into the cavity part (PIR insulation area). The reality is through that the amount of moisture produced in these rooms is minimal ie... people breathing, boiling a kettle etc. So there is not much moisture any way. It's really there for being a bit bets and braces. It's not expensive and it's quick to chuck in and just adds thats extra layer of protection. Hope this helps fella! :)

    Hi Steve - when you cut the sill, do you cut to the width of the aperture, or the width of the door frame? Wasn’t sure if you need the same size gap on either side of the sill as there is around the frame. Seeing conflicting things on line.

    Hi Steve With your method of PIR boards and then vapour barrier do you not get a problem with moisture on the inside of the PIR and plaster board side? Or is that side warm so moisture not a problem? TIA

    • @TheHomeRenovationExperts
      @TheHomeRenovationExperts 29 дней назад

      Hello Henry, Nope no moisture at all because like you say it's nice and warm that side and the only moisture inside the building is that of the people breathing or making a cuppa! So that amount can escape through the trickle vents in the doors and windows and because of the breather membrane on the outside no moisture from the exterior can get in. Hope this helps matey!

He tried to charge us for electric work inspection when it was included in the total price we'd paid when we ordered the kitchen... i ended up asking the wickes area manager to leave our house as his attitude was terrible... i really hope that wickes have sorted out their fitters and your job goes well. better to know before, I'm sure it's the luck of the draw Steve. all my best and thanks for your work, yours is a great channel.

    Thanks for posting your work- are you worried at all about water collecting under deck and accelerating rot of deck framing? Thanks! About to build a low deck myself and trying to figure things out

      Funny you should say this! The clients out side tap blew in winter after freezing and the water was collecting for hours. The guy said the only thing that saved his house from flooding was the fact that the way I had built the base was soooo good at draining even mains pressure couldn’t fill it up! lol So no you’ll never get rot using this system fella 👍👊
