Hey,
What is the benefit of doing the feather edges upright rather than horizontal?
Thanks, Harvey
In my experience putting 2 nails at the same height in every board can cause the boards to split in the summer or cup in the winter, as the timber cannot expand or contract between the nails. I found it best to single nail at every batten, of course ensuring that the nail doesn't penetrate the board below. I have however seen boards successfully nailed the same way as you have done it without splitting. Not sure why.
Yeah I agree, but in my experience when yiu do get the splitting from fixing like this, 9/10 there was a defect in the board and a weak point 👍👊
You may think you are right , but you are not ! How you do it is up to you , but you shouldn't tell others how to do it ! A 150mm wide board. Can shrink or expand 5to8mm , it will then split with two nails in it ! I am 76 , been working g with wood since I was 15 trained by men that new the job !
@@richardsharp7400 Hello Richard! Thanks a lot for your comment and I appreciate you pointing this out. Next time I do this I shall adapt my fitting to allow for this! And fair play for all your years in the trade. Do you miss it or still dabble?
What nail gun and nails you using for the feather edge boards
