    Yeah, mega guys. I live in Wakayama, its the best for cycling. In 199? I rode from Wakayama city to Taichi along the coast. It was new year and freezing cold but it didn't worry me when I was young then. But a huge storm came up an I had to catch the train back. The station master complained about me not having a bag at Kushimoto station, but when a local train came along he saw it as an opportunity to get rid of a problem and said get on even without a ticket (of course I paid on the train). I kind of dream of riding it again even at 61yo.

We printed them for the train but you could probably just have the QR code on your phone. Here's the site: www.raileurope.com/en-us/destinations/ljubljana-munich-train Hope that helps!

    I think they pump your gas in Oregon and New Jersey. Curious. How much are the tolls for the roads?

    • @AnniewhereAndEverywhere
      @AnniewhereAndEverywhere Месяц назад

      thats cool! I haven't driven a car in either of those states yet so my first experience like that at a gas station was in Japan haha. Tolls vary pretty widely based on where you are in the country, the time of day you're driving, and the size of your car. For example, we were in a "lightweight car" and 4 hours of driving cost us 6000 yen in central japan, 3000 yen in Akita and Aomori prefectures, and 300 yen in the north of Aomori. It's hard for me to make a general guess, but this website lets you calculate tolls ahead of time in english if you know where/when you're driving and want a better estimate: search.w-nexco.co.jp/en/

    Hi guys. I’ve only recently discovered your RUclips channel and I am loving it. I am planning to spend three months in Japan next year cycling south to north. Just wondering, can you tell me the average cost of an overnight stay in a guest house? Thanks heaps.

    • @AnniewhereAndEverywhere
      @AnniewhereAndEverywhere Месяц назад

      That sounds like an awesome trip! It's hard to estimate the average cost when so many things will factor into the stay - as you probably know it depends on whether the guest house is in a big city, the season, how nice the house is, if its a shared facility, if there are a lot of accommodations in the area, etc. We were frequently able to spend less than 1万 (¥10,000) for comfortable but humble accommodations. Some more popular cities for cycling or tourism were pricier, but you can save by staying in shared rooms. Sometimes APA business hotels or even "love hotels" are the cheapest option in an area if there aren't many ryokan options. Have fun!

    May i ask, if you would know, the - Tedori Canyon Road Cycle Path is open in the Late Nov - Early Dec period?

    • @AnniewhereAndEverywhere
      @AnniewhereAndEverywhere Месяц назад

      I think it is! I don't know for sure, but it doesn't seem to ever officially close. The only time it would be "closed" is if there is too much snow to ride on it. Early December should be ok, but I would just check the forecast in case there is an early snow. Last year January and February were more snowy months.

    Huge achievement! I've done some 200km rides in Japan and was hoping to get 300 at some point. What was your training plan leading up to the ride?

      200km is a huge achievement too! Zeb would have to share his specifics but it seems like his main plan was just riding a lot, haha. In the leadup to that he was averaging 15-20 hours on the bike per week - his strava profile is www.strava.com/athletes/377840 😀

    Hey Annie! I'm not dead lol, just got a little busy with my overly long Japan + India summer trip and prepping for college. Feels great to watch another one of your videos again, also makes me very happy that you made a hiking video haha. I did a similar mountain hike when I was in Japan at a place called Mt Misen which is on an island near Hiroshima, though it was definitely smaller and a different kind of terrain (but amazing in its own right). It feels a bit surreal watching your videos now vs. before when I had actually been to Japan, now that a lot of these landscapes feel familiar and bring back nice memories with my host family and classmates. Definitely plan to visit Japan again someday in the future, hopefully then I can visit the places in your videos like Kanazawa that I missed. Also, can't wait to see how the rest of your road trip journey unfolds, excited for the many videos that will come from that!

      omg hi! I was wondering how you were doing and how the Japan trip went. So glad you had a great time! Mt. Misen is so beautiful! It's been a while, but Zeb and I got to hike/stay there on our honeymoon in 2019 - the torii gate was still under renovations then though so I would love to go back and actually see it. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I'm a bit behind on my editing but I should have the next video up soon, which will be about Akita prefecture and our first time in the Tohoku region! Theres always so much more to see in Japan isnt there? 😄

      @@AnniewhereAndEverywhere Oh my god, I'm not surprised you've already been there, you're like a traveling pro compared to me 😂 But yea, if you're ever back in Hiroshima, definitely worth checking out again, the torii gate is really pretty especially at sunrise/sunset! Also hundred percent, I feel like I barely scratched the surface of Japan in my last trip, and from another angle, I also definitely want to keep putting my Japanese skills to the test! I think most of my favorite moments from the trip came from conversations with people like with my host family's extended family (cousins, grandparents, etc.) or even with strangers in random places like onsens lol. Made me so happy that my time spent learning Japanese actually worked fairly well and that I could communicate with the people around me. I feel like it added so much more to the whole experience vs. just visiting places and looking at them! Well I kind of went off on a tangent there, but yea haha there's just so much to explore!

So cool that you were able to practice your Japanese - it's so rewarding when it feels like studying is finally working isn't it? 😂 There's so many places I still want to go, I'm always taking recommendations! I hope college prep went smoothly and that you're settling in well, excited for you!

    This is such a beautiful vlog ! I loved the filming and narrating of this hike, and have subscribed to your channel after seeing some other lovely videos. I don't know if you'll read this, but I'm a biologist coming to Japan for the first time (dream holidays) this November, and I'm looking for friendly hikes to do in national parks to get to know local flora/fauna... I know it's a bit late for going to the top of Hakusan because the trails seem to close after October 15th, but would you happen to know if there are any trails open during the first week of November? Maybe at the foot of the mountain? Thanks in advance and I really hope this comment is not out of place (if so, I apologize in advance). Thanks for your content !

      Hi, thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate the kind words - and I hope you have an incredible time in November! I'm not a great resource hiking since I usually bike, but hopefully I can offer some suggestions for where to start looking. Hakusan has some trails around the base, but I'd just check the snow forecast. November is on the early side for snow but the area gets a lot of precipitation. I would stay in the mid-range mountains, about 1500m - 2000m. I think anything 2000m or taller might be too cold/snowy that time of year. The Kurobe Alpine Route in Toyama Prefecture is more bus travel instead of hiking, but they go through one of Japan's 3 holy mountains and time run into late November: www.alpen-route.com/en/timetable/ If you're going to the Kansai region there should be nice hikes around Lake Biwa or Mt. Hiei outside Kyoto: ruclips.net/video/zNygXjsAJKw/видео.html Also this website might be helpful for your planning: hikesinjapan.yamakei-online.com/ I hope you have a great time!!

      @@AnniewhereAndEverywhere Hi, thank you for a great reply! After seeing your videos I found the page you recommended me, so it seems I'm on a good track ! Also I believe I will decide on the spot depending on the weather forecast as you suggest, but it's nice to know the details you shared. I truly appreciate your recommendations, since I am not too keen on hiking with snow haha. I'll definitely check out Lake Biwa and Mt. Hiei. This is my first time commenting on a video, I can't believe I had such luck. Thank you again ! Best wishes from Argentina 🙌

      I think that month is good for cycling still! I don't have much experience cycling in the Tokyo/Kawaguchi areas, but I don't think it will be too cold yet - I found that in Ishikawa the early spring was colder/snowier than late fall. I would just make sure you have warmer clothes/rain gear/gloves to bike in just in case. Have fun!
