Yes, this is similar to when Homelander went off script but Homelander was motivated by an out of control ego. Ryan was motivated by his morals and character. I have a theory that if it happens, it’s gonna break my heart and also make the next season completely unpredictable. I think this might be building up to 2 things. Ryan v Homelander. Or. Homelander kills Ryan. If he can’t control Ryan and make him see eye to eye on the supe supremacy world he wants to build. Then he is now at the mental capacity where I wouldn’t put it past him at all to kill his own son. Not only out of his son defying him at his moment of weakness, but also because if Ryan learns how to fight, Ryan is the only Supe other than Soldier Boy that can contest Homelander. And even then, Soldier Boy wouldn’t be able to take down Homelander if Homelander unites the supes. Ryan is one of the only people that can stand a chance against him. Homelander only loves Ryan because he is an extension of himself. Not because he loves Ryan. And if Ryan holds none of the same values of Homelander, he doesn’t want the same world as him, and just wants to genuinely help others and live off Becca’s memory, then Homelander can’t transform Ryan into who he wants him to be. Also, killing Ryan would 1000% make Butcher in the last season a monster. He will have no ties to Becca left in the world, thus killing Becca’s ghost in his head. Only leaving Kesler to wipe out all the supes and take revenge on homelander. At that point the only person I ever see turning Butcher back to himself is Hughie and even then. That might be the one thing they adapt from the comics. Butcher’s unrequited rage and hatred against supes. With Homelander killing Ryan, he has no emotional ties left to stop him from releasing the virus out into the world, killing all supes.

1:05 was anyone else thrown off by that look Homelander gave when Ryan said “my mom Becca loved her husband Billy.” I would have thought he be pissed that Ryan just announced that on TV. But Homelander looked almost sad for what happened to Becca and Billy.

Ryan may go on a power trip at times, but he’s not a cruel person.
