In this episode, the program attempts more spaceplanes to no avail... We're gaining a bit of a bad track record at this rate! We start with the ludicrous Halbird, which spectacularly summersaults through the atmosphere and lands in many pieces in the ocean. With this remarkable failure, a cheap lunar lander was constructed in its place, which retrieves the crew of Hypnos and brings them back ho...

After wrestling with big, unwieldy fuel tanks under the oppressive gravity of Kerbin, it was decided that it's about time we start launching from the Mun! But the boys in the lab says we can't just magically put our rockets there, so we have to begin work on assembling a launch pad there, starting with finding a good place for it! Thus, a ScanSat was launched, delivered by the unretired Galahad...

"Nemesis" - After Kerbin Cinematic Playthrough Episode 1
had a feeling with the delay, the next episode was going to have some pretty big base events, a mission i forgot about, did the duna crewed mission ever have its Ike landing? and when does it return to kerbin?
to help prevent any major issues from part count, have you considered looking for some "mega" part mods, like an insanely oversized single tank that could act as your munar orbital fuel depot, so you only have 1 tank to transfer fuel in and out of, could also get someone to add one to the models for your own version of kerbal konstructs, and "bury" one into the regolith of the mun, even if its not useable, looks great for roleplay
@@anthonator8810 The Ike landing happened in episode 23, now the crew of the Valkyrie are just waiting on their transfer window back to Kerbin, I think it's about 200 days away in game time. I thought about moving the ship to Ike orbit just to get a bit more science while they're there. I did consider it, I'm always hesitant to add more mods once a playthrough gets going just because I've had a few problems in past that destroy game files, but I did wanna try looking into stuff like that, mainly for future interplanetary ships that I'll need a lot of fuel for, but it would definitely be good for the Mun base as well!
What made you decide to rendezvous the Duna lander at Duna? Why not send it with the main ship?
Since I was launching the fuel tanks for the Valkyrie from Kerbin, it wasn't really feasible to construct a ship with enough fuel to carry all the extra vehicles with it. It was easier to send the Landers separately and then rendezvous at Duna, that way the Landers only need small transfer stages and I only need to send one really big vessel (Valkyrie)
glad to see the "low cost, simple" launch vehicle finally make it to the big screen, if ssto's stay annoying, could always go with the shuttle style of stage and a half, cant beat that feeling shuttles give
True, I've been thinking about shuttles quite a bit, miss flying the hawk! They're just so tricky to build, I was toying around with another one recently and just couldn't get it to fly straight
What visual mods are you using? And what's the configuration on the mods?
The visual mods are scatterer, deferred rendering, blackrack's volumetric clouds and distant object enhancer. Have a full list of the mods on my community page, I just added it to the description :)
I don't blame you for the SSTO failing, making SSTO's do be super hard lol. I have an SSTO that can land on the moon, but its super small and has RAPIERS and nervs which obviously makes it a lot easier
Dude, I thought my ksp was heavily modded, yet I swear I don't recognize this game you're playing. LOL. Cool missions by the way. Can't wait to get to Eve.
The visual mods really elevate the game imo! I mean, if you're gonna have a space game it has gotta look amazing!
pc specs?
I got an Intel i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, GTX 1050 Ti Graphics card
what mod do you use for recoloring parts ?
@jeromeugray Texture Unlimited Replacer Depot, full mod list is on the community section
Great video! I just got this video recommended randomly. I'll watch through the series now haha
lookes good keep it up
i feel like nows the perfect time to try out that ares-I esque launch vehicle for getting refueling vehicles, maybe a no refueling need, but test of the vehicles capability mission, think like a larger centaur stage, maybe an inflatable heatshield in the front, side docking port, and this way it can be justified as a super cheap launch vehicle, with a reusable payload, and could repurpose it for a mun transfer stage for a payload for the mun orbital station
You know, on that front I was thinking of repurposing Hermes I as a refueller, it has the launch capacity for it and it already has proven its reliability. I'm thinking for the Mun transfer vehicle I want a dedicated orbital vehicle, one that maybe can refuel around Kerbin to begin with while the Mun base gets up and running. I'm loving all the ideas, keep em coming!
@moonfish1001 it would give reason to keep flying Hermes, but the ares-I would give you a cheap to lko expendable vehicle for those fuel needs, that wouldn't be annoying to fly and return, if the Hermes gets boring down the line
hi!
S-tier cinematics
That was got to be the longest intro I have ever seen
Just found this and got massive beyond kerbol/endurance vibes
@@CasualStupidness that might be the best compliment I've received so far!
My favorite part definitely has to be the continued use of spaceplanes, but only within LKO. Not pushing them out to the mun, minmus, or interplanetary. Unlike alot of alt history shows and movies which push them out much further then they should go
@@anthonator8810 I agree, while I think it's impressive to see an ssto that can go anywhere in the Kerbol system, it's not super realistic. I did send the Hawk shuttle to the Mun but that took several refuels and waaay too much effort 😅 thanks for supporting the series!!
that intro is very pretty
Are there craft files? The Hyperion is absolutely BEAUTIFUL
I haven't got anywhere to download them as of yet, but that's certainly something I can look into if there's interest!
one of the "house rules" that i think would definitely make for some cool designs, was definitely proving you can keep the base supplied at times when you may be unable to use some of your ssto's, and i think something akin to the ares-I would be cool as hell, SRB first stage, perhaps a hyper efficient second stage (ion or nuclear) to just get the craft to munar orbit, or precision landing at the mun base basically designs that would make sense for what it would take to justify a lunar base IRL, and keep it supplied at all times, with cheap vehicles at the ready, should the main vehicle (say an SSTO launched rendezvous with a transfer vehicle) have an issue that causes it to be grounded
Ooh I like the idea of that, plus it really makes an incentive to build more orbital infrastructure to help maintain the base
good lord... a working docking cam and a video a week old? please for the love of all that's holy share your mod list? I stopped playing years ago cause I got so frustrated with it.
@TipsyRavenSailing I've got a full mod list on my community section, but the mod for the docking cam I believe is just called Docking Cam. Honestly, it's such a life saver, makes docking so much easier, it actually tells you the alignment of the target, don't think I could live without it now!
If you haven't sent up the base yet, I have an idea for a small continuing challenge to hold you over till you do send a base: rover resupply: either using the ssto to launch small, non returning payloads, or develop a new, cheap launch vehicle (something akin to the ares-I) to precision land supplies ahead of the rovers path, proving that you could easily maintain a moon base with supplies during times between crew transfers, or for a bit of rp, incase of emergency
Ahh that would've been fun! Unfortunately I've already retrieved the crew, had some issues with the rover that cut the mission short. Should all be coming in an episode soon 😁
@moonfish1001 ah, could be tried again, unless the mission profile as a whole is flawed
I had a bit more luck than you when I tried for a Moho mission- I also vastly underestimated the fuel, but I realized soon enough that instead of capturing at Moho, I did a flyby and managed to get myself a return encounter with Kerbin after a few years of solar orbits. Alas, the brave kerbonauts got completely fried upon reentry. That's what you get when you find yourself on a collision course with the planet and barely two digits of delta-v in the tank.
I feel like Moho likes to pretend it's an easy destination, and then when you actually try to go there you end up stranding the crew in space or killing them somehow 😅
what mod do you have to make the stars on the day side on the moon not visible while the sun was out, like at 5:38 ?
@@Spacewalker1870 I believe that's the work of distant object enhancer
the algorithm recommended me this. after that banger of an intro, i believe i may know what ksp series im binge-watching next.
Having your girlfriend interrupt you during your KSP session is hilarious
This is a beautiful representation of what I remember the game as :) definitely doing another play through now
my suggested house rules: No , ore containers, isru refiners, ore drills, or crew themselves (crew capsules empty are fine) can be launched from a non kerbin launchpad To balance the production of rockets: require proving that crew can be rotated in and out reliably, say monthlong 3 crew stays at first to test it out, then as many crew as you want stays find a ratio of ore that feels balanced to the weight and cost of the rockets when empty of fuel in the VAB, so it gives you reason to launch more ore mining pieces, then, only launch rockets from the mun empty on fuel, take a small simple rover with a grabber on it, have it grab the rocket (to simulate fuel hoses) and have it transfer fuel produced by isru in. Gradually as time goes on, expand the base adding things like life support recyclers, a few greenhouses, make it more of a colony then a simple base, then as you get to really far in the series, use kerbal konstructs to just place buildings around it, make it seem like a small city, and you can stop caring about the rules, just launch most things from there as you feel fit within the story only thing i could think to change would be the ISRU fuel requirements, maybe just require an amount of ISRU machines nearby, to have simulated making the fuel, but dont do the actual launching of the rocket empty, transferring with a fuel tank rover, if that gets too tedious
Dust and Echoes.... .Halo reference?
Unfortunately I was a PlayStation kid, so I have never played Halo...😅
@moonfish1001 thats crazy you landed on that naming scheme then! Im trying to recreate your Hawk shuttle in my playthrough. Any chance youll upload the craft file?
You voice reminds me of another ksp youtuber...
perfect name pronunciation :)
Genuinely an excellent video. It makes no sense that you only have 212 subscribers.
What mods are being used here?
@@_CosmicWizard_ I've posted a full mod list on the community page
still always recommend kerbal konstructs, alot less unstable of a mod, that would just let you plain launch from a mun or minmus launchpad like it was the KSC whenever you want, if you were to like the idea of going a little less work required, a little into roleplay, like put a nice base on the mun, or expand foxglove into a "rocket assembly base" and maybe limit your launches to a specific tonnage per year, until you heavily expand the base through more kerbin launched modules
I think i should already have kerbal konstructs installed for the kerbin side launch sites, shouldn't be too much work to get the munar launch pads then! I'll definitely have to look into it, thanks for the recommendation!!
@@moonfish1001 Working with another community memeber to make a colony mod based on KK. EPLP is a great mod but if all your bases are part based it leads to either lower part counts for stability or dealing with kraken strikes and jank. With our mod it would allow you to launch a colony builder part and if you have the required resources you can click a button in the part action window and it takes you straight into the placement UI for a new small colony. Iv got Tiers 1-3 worked out and the idea is once you build it with a craft on site you then store resources, kerbals, and crafts there til you upgrade it further for more storage, Kerbal bunks and other facilities like R&D or a ground station. It uses the OSSNTR static mod to ensure all colonies load fast as OSSNTR uses stock textures loaded after game load for all buildings.
Ooh that sounds really interesting!! My main worry about EPLP was the kraken, so a mod that works around that would be ideal! Do you have a forum for it?
@@moonfish1001 i thought i responded forgive me, but, theres alot of help within the old official discord, and the official reddit discord, im yet to actually try myself, but i have witnessed, in call with someone, them putting a barebones launchpad on minmus, then launching from the kerbin ksc VAB straight to liftoff on minmus, as if the ksc was up there, and i recall it being very few steps
You just can't get enough of cinematic launches!
Great video! I love the realism and the editing is incredible.
This is awesome, keep up the great work!
Gorgeous, I'm going to have to update my mods and play some KSP!
KSP beyond safe temperature range
Do you details on the graphical mods you are using, it's beautiful!
The main ones making it look so good are Blackrack's volumetric clouds and scatterer, but I've got a full list of mods on my community section
In the case of Gilly it is very much hinted at being a captured Eve asteroid, heavy incline and retrograde orbit. I think that makes it really interesting as its one of its kind at least in the stock system
I think that definitely makes sense! Tbf I see what you mean, that definitely gives it a lot more intrigue, I hadn't considered it that way before! I think my aversion to it is simply the time and effort it takes to land there 😅
@ you ever tried the brute force technique on good ol Gilly lol, kinda stupid with Kerbalism but it works
Haha as in just point towards it and force an encounter? I don't think I have, I always try and be efficient about things even tho KSP never requires you to 😂
@ Yep, that one. In recent times I haven’t been playing at stock scale so this is just something I can’t do anymore lol
