The villeen that I use is iron on villeen which has a sticky side and the other side has no glue.
@@jenniferyoung8427 thast correct. Only one side has glue. Is it a fabric vilene?
Hi Elsabe. I have found that people bye the commercial patterns and they are your master patterns. When they want to do another size pattern, they discover that they are unable to make patterns from the commercial pattern. I suggest that they buy trace villeen and it comes in two colours which are pink and white.
Hello Elsabe. So sorry you had health issues last year. It is horrible to feel bad. Happy you are feeling good again. I LOVE that blouse on the manniken behind you. Is that one of your SFD designs? I definitely have to know how to make that.
@@Joy4650B The top is a very old pattern Simplicity 1945. I think it’s a discontinued pattern. I want to redesign it using my SFD pattern as I had quite a lot of my customers ask about it.

So wonderful to see you back Elsabe and that you are feeling better. We missed you. Love the wrap top on your dress form.

Dankie Elsabe, so bly om te sien jy is weer aan die gang. Sien uit om al jou videos te kyk.
Hello.. I am a beginner in sewing. I faced the same problem that you explained about, which is ironing pennies.. I have two questions, please. The first is what are the correct sewing steps. Should I do the collar after the sleeves or vice versa? The second question is how do I iron the sleeve after sewing it. Explain the method to us, please. ..❤
@@zinaabd3153 Thank you for commenting. I will definitely be discussing this in the up coming video when we sew a t-shirt
Very thorough presentation. Looking forward to more.

Nice to see you back. Sorry that you have been recovering from health issues. ❤. I’m looking forward to seeing your upcoming videos. By the way, I adore the wrap top you have on the dress form. Hopefully you will have a tutorial on how to draft it. Take care. 🙏✝️🇺🇸
@dimples7334 thank you, it feels amazing to have all this energy again.
@@ElsabeHurn. Good to hear that.
I need to finish my module1 training, this year😢 🎉😂❤
Just work through a couple of videos a week. You will get there.
The interfacing I have says to use a damp press cloth. I’ve long wondered why none of the sewing tutorials use those instructions.
Brilliant ! Thanks so much !♥
The word you were looking for I think is “Anchor ”. The binding frames the neckline and anchors the visual design pattern of the neck area - I am a novice, but I can see that neckline is not visually defined and looks “unfinished”. Well done.
@@mca4u thank you. With English being a second language I sometimes struggle to find the correct word when explaining something. 😁

Learning something new here. Need to slow my process down.
What country is your accent from? (Great video btw)
@@starveartist I’m in South Africa.
@ElsabeHurn ok cool. I wasn't sure if it was a South African or New Zealand accent. (Fun to listen to people from different countries) Thanks!!
How did you decide to add 1/4" to to back bodice width? I don't understand. Should I also add 1/4" to my bodice width?
I always pin pattern pieces. That prevents movement when cutting. I only have scissors.
Amazing. I don't think I need this process personally, but it's incredibly helpful having such a great explanation to better understand what various changes do to each piece of the pattern and how to alter them accordingly. Thanks so much!! Subscribed ☺️ Edit: Well isn't that something...I just went and tried on a blazer that fits almost perfectly but has always felt a little odd in the arms -- I have a slightly forward shoulder! 😲 Same goes for a Vogue pattern I tested out with a mock-up. It's literally only a cm but makes all the difference. This is such a breakthrough, thank you! 🥳
I never have a problem with ironing my fusible interfacing on dry, just have to allow the glue to cool for about an hour before sewing with it to keep the glue set. For me, the simpler the better.
Thank you very much Elsabe for this video. I have the same overlocker as yourself but not used the elastic foot yet but will definitely give it a go now as I want to make a top with an elastic waist band.
@@catherine9708 thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. There is just so much we can do with our overlockers.
Thank you. This is very informative. I've recently purchased the Dress Sloper Kit and I am struggling to get the back right. I don't have enough room to move my arms forward. The fabric strains across the upper back and upper arms. After watching this video, I will remeasure the back and shoulder blade areas--maybe that's where I went wrong. But here is my question: From my initial SF sloper, I could tell that I needed a round back adjustment, a square shoulder adjustment and a forward-sloping shoulder adjustment. In which sequence do I make these modifications? And related to that: So if measure my back from my shoulder to the crease, which shoulder line of the pattern do I use to measure the crease on the pattern? The original SureFit shoulder or the shoulder line that I get after making the square, forward and round back adjustments? Because all those move the shoulder angle and length. Thank you.
@@purplebouquetnn2956 I’m not sure what crease on your pattern you are referring to. When I measure my pattern to check if there is enough width across the back, I measure in a straight line down from shoulder point. It is to establish a point where I can measure the width of my pattern. Do round back adjustment first, as you want it on the pattern before cutting your sloper. Do your first fit and then decide how much you need to change the angle for the square shoulder. When lifting the shoulder point for the square shoulder adjustment, you need to lift the underarm point with the same amount to keep the armhole length the same. When you are happy with that adjustment you can do the forward shoulder. Make sure to measure the shoulder length after the forward shoulder adjustment so you can correct shoulder length if needed.
@@ElsabeHurn thank you. I meant the arm crease. I did ask a convoluted question. . . But your answer and also a second look at the video clarified things for me. Thank you.
I just have to say thank you so much for this video. It helped me tremendously. I spent hours cutting all this interfacing. I bought from Joannes and I tried to iron it. I tried the heat press. Nothing was working until this video. I guess I just needed to add water apparently a lot of it and then I got it to work. I spent all day trying to troubleshoot thisand it’s almost 8 o’clock at night and I finally got one to stick. Thank you so much.
Hello Elsabe, I like you shear cardigan. Is that the Sinclair digital you taught us how to use?
Any posiblity of putting this on Amazon for Canada ,North America?
@@amandarossouw493 contact Janine in the US. She has a distributor in Canada who will ship to you. Her email is info@surefitdesigns.com
What a lot of ppl don’t know about Amazon is that they gouge the seller, and SFD would probably lose their shirt selling there.
Very Helpful.
that was such a wonderful tutorial--your step by step explanations are so easy to follow. I am thinking of doing a v-neck top (have to draft the pattern first) and this will be so very helpful! thank you for sharing this information.
@@dianneunderwood8456 thank you for watching. Let me know how your v-neck comes out
Have always had a button foot for my machine and even tried it once (have been sewing for over 50 years). Yes it has been sitting in my accessory box for a very long time mostly because I could knot off the threads for a more secure button by hand. Now that I have seen your tips, I am looking forward to making use of it again. Thank you.
Great,I’m going to try it on my next shirt. What material did you use for the lining?
Thank you Elsabe for this great opportunity ❤
As a post script to my comment below, I just completed a jacket using your method to adjust the sleeve cap for forward shoulder. (I also adjusted my front and back bodice pieces at the low shoulder the same amount) I am totally amazed at how well everything fits -- besides having a comfortable sleeve and the shoulder seam staying put (not wanting to pull to the back), I no longer have my center front at the bottom hem wanting to pull to one side! Hard to believe one small adjustment could have such a big impact. Wanted you to know how much benefit implementing this change made for me!
@@dianneunderwood8456 thank you for giving feedback after trying the alteration. I am glad that this method worked for you.

Excellent thank you Elesbe. Much needed for my personal use. Love your help & tips. From Queensland Australia. 😊
It is one of the most useful techniques ever. Brilliant solution! Thanks a lot.
Love your method. I am wondering if you find the elastic stretches a bit when it is serged on - do you cut your elastic shorter than waist measurement or the same as your waist measurement? thanks!
Hello Elsabe. Can you send me the link to where I can learn your neck design on this top. I find it very attractive. Thank you. I’m learning a lot from your videos. Thank you. Marilynn
Could you show how to put the pants together?
Once the armhole is adjusted, would we need to adjust the (cup) sleeve? it seemed wider after adjustment...
Thanks ❤
A wonderful detailed video. I was most interested in your methods to determine armhole depth and body widths from armhole creases (as well as how much ease you suggest for front and back bodices). Thank you -- a great help for anyone drafting patterns and wanting to achieve a good fit!
