But you can polish it so the scratches disappear? Sell for few thousands more, calculate profit 😂
Lucky find at that price even for a battered lens. I think in overcast conditions you are likely to get away with it, but in a high contrast scene it may be a different story. Good shots BTW.
Well done Tom, I'll be amazed if this video doesn't get tons of views! I bought an immaculate Ricoh 1 as spares because it had a bad case if fungus, I still takes great shots unless I point it into strong sunlight 👍 I bought second spares R1 to swap the lenses over, but that works too!
I'm quite sure if you haven't indicated the flaws of the lens that no one would have ever noticed by the images. Thanks for sharing
And finally, am I correct in understanding that the ratio of 24 mm high, x 70 mm wide is slightly wider than the original X-Pan? I must say, I prefer the wider look.
A very engaging video, throughout, with many wonderful images. Thank you. I will definitely be looking into X-Pan in the 67 camera. I have been looking at a Linhof with a 6x9 roll film back - bit it’s a cumbersome outfit. You’ve REALLY made excellent use of the format. Many congratulations. Liked and subscribed.
Great video lesson for learning to use a IR Film. 😎👍
Thank you 🙂
How does focusing work? Guesswork?
No the Ricoh 500g has a rangefinder to help you focus
Are you scanning your negs, if so what scanner are you using. Great video
Epson v500 thank you for watching
This is not easy, but you nailed it . I like your off centre framing which can add a lot to an environmental portrait. I could see a portfolio of work on the people of Camden Town being very successful for you . Just get the shots, you can decide what to do with them later. Liked and subbed, very best wishes, Jake Everyman.
Hey Jake, welcome to the OA family! That really means a lot so thank you very much! ☺️
You're very welcome. If you want to see a few of my pictures have a look at a slide show of mine on Black and white profusion. Hope to be posting more soon. Very best wishes from Jake E.
Nice work and interesting subjects..I am not a street photographer but I would probably take photos of the same exact people you have because they are interesting. What is the brand of the light meter you are using if I may ask?
Thank you very much! Really appreciate you watching and commenting! It's a Gossen, great light meters.. they can be quite expensive but you can find some good ones on eBay for a good price occasionally ☺️ hope that helps! All the best, Josh
Its a brilliant olace to take a camera and i can highly recommend the fish and chips in beau maris 😋 look forward to seeing more of your shots on the next installment Josh
It really is a special spot! Ahh I wish I knew... We had a fish and chips but can't remember where we got it from now though... From what I remember it wasn't much to write home about though 😂 Thank you as always Richard! ☺️
Well done. The shots are good. I like the way your way of shooting is casual. or seems casual. And yet the effect is also intense. People being themselves rather than performing for the camera. They don't. I think it is because you approach people with respect and somehow you convey that to the people. The Rolleiflex high tonal values are amazing, because you get the whole range of greys, high key I think. Yes, I think attitude is key. It's your strong point and your eye too, of course. So yeah, well done. It also takes guts to do this and not to back off. One guy who has written about how we approach other people and made it the centre of his philosophy is Emmanuel Levinas. The "Other" is the person I meet, the stranger, the one with a story I don't know. But will tell me if only I listen without arrogance and airs of superiority. Can I do that? Dunno. But you can. I'm a lecturer in photography and art history and non Hollywood film, by the way.
Hello, thank you very much, I say it so often but it really does mean a lot! The Rolleiflex definitely packs a punch, I can't get enough of looking at results from this beauty. I really need to take it out more often! I will definitely check out Emmanuel Lewis ☺️ Again, thank you so much! Josh
@@OnlyAnalogue Emmanuel Levinas is his name. He is I think the most important thinker of the 20th century. But only being deeply understood more recently.
The color contrast of the diner is stark. Starting at 8:17, Josh's photo of the diner has blues that pop - they are vibrant. A few seconds later, Tom's photo of the same diner renders the colors, especially the blues, dull and darker. I lost track of who was using Kodak Portra and who was using Fuji, but that is important to know depending on the subjects. I hope you're still making videos. If so, you might want to do a film comparison showing how they render people, eyes, skin, and hair versus structures with vibrant colors versus natural backgrounds with more neutral colors.
buyer beware: my Lomomatic 110 came with a busted flash
Amazing photos! Absolutely worthy for book printing. Will try this on my Pentax 67 (expecting less stunning images but I'm OK with it). Do you recommend any particular lens? I only have the 105mm f2.4 but maybe a wider lens would be better for these. Thank you.
Hey! Thank you so much!!! I usually use my 55mm f4 but even the 105 should do the job! The wider lens, the better it will be in theory as it gives you that really beautiful cinematic look. But I've tried it with my 135 and still had some very useable results. I've seen some photographers create beautiful xpans on lenses that aren't wide by any means, so definitely give it a go and see what you can create ☺️ I hope this helps, best of luck when you do give it a try! Josh
@@OnlyAnalogue thank you for your encouraging reply. Will try. Keep with the amazing work!
While you might be youthful and strong, hand holding a 6X7 camera with 12 asa film ( 100 + 3 stops ) is near impossible. Nice video, thanks.
4:20 That would have been a nice frame too.
Those are epic.
Thank you so much!
A lovely collection of portraits on a single roll - you cracked it. Well done!
Thank you ☺️ I really appreciate it!
Beautiful. Thank you
Thank you ☺️
Great video and photos. The Pentax takes me back; never got to own one but drooled over the prospect of doing so.😄
Thank you so much! They really are the (almost) perfect camera... Just a shame about the weight 😂
Good to meet you this morning. 😊
You too!
Jesus christ josh kept this one quiet this video is so crisp ! Got some lovely shots there aswell well done mate !
Hey Andy, thank you mate I really appreciate that! ☺️
One of your best videos yet. Stunning photos and the lighthouse is stunning.
Hey! Thank you very much ☺️ It really is an incredible place!
Some cracking pictures of some cracking locations. Nicely done.
Thank you very much, it means a lot! ☺️
Really great! Your 67 is much more than a camera, as well as mine
Can't get enough of the Pentax with the 55mm! ☺️ Thank you very much!
The light on the grasses was sublime. Beautiful images.
Thank you 👌 easily one of my favourite landscapes so far ☺️ I really appreciate you watching and the kind words!
God's own country
Good job, some really nice shots especially 5:55.
Hey! Thank you so much! One of my favourite landscapes so far ☺️
Love your work, envious of your people skills. Must find the couarge just to ask.
Thank you so much! Honestly, take the leap 🙂 I've struggled for a long time with portraiture due to some bad experiences in the past but it's always been something I've wanted to pursue. Head out with a strong mind and make the jump and ask the first person... I can't say I don't still get nervous but it gets a lot easier. And when you see great results it only makes it easier still! You might miss the best photograph of your life from not asking someone... And you'll regret not doing it after. At least that's what I tell myself now. But honestly just take it at your own pace and see what happens 🙂 I hope there's something in that... All the best, happy shooting! Josh
@@OnlyAnalogue Thank you Josh. Seems a strange thing to say after shooting gigs / street for the past 10 years. Confidence took a knock 18 months ago, not took a camera out since. In fact have been selling gear off.
Hey guys, what was the name of the light meter App you are using. I just got a Canonet. excellent video! you encuraged me to buy it.
Hey! It's called Light meter if you are on android but I believe there's another good free one if you are on iPhone 🙂 Best of luck with your canonet! They're amazing little cameras! 🙂 Thanks for the kind words as well, it really means a lot!
@@OnlyAnalogue Thank y'alls for sharing with us your experiences with the camera.
Another great video - nice one!
Cheers thank you for watching ✌️
Loved your video guys! I fell in love with the 1961 Canonet years ago and to this day, even though I have a dozen other cameras, it is still my favourite camera to use by far. Your pictures are really unique too - superb actually. Keep up with this high end content with character!
We love the canonet but unfortunately we do dig them out as much as we use to we try to circulate our cameras but when I’m heading out it’s josh take his canon 7 or 120 camera and I take out my Leicas but will head back out with them soon as there fun cameras to use and image quality is always nice stay safe shoot film and of course will try keep up content and the character 😊✌️
Found your channel by chance today and am really enjoying the content. The portraits are really fantastic, I especially liked the first in the hat shop but they are all great. The portrait in the Shanghai video was excellent too. Would love to see more, I also wanted to say how well you came across asking for permission to take the portraits, super friendly and polite. I’m sure that goes a long way towards engaging with your subjects!
Hey! Welcome to the OA family 🙂 That's really kind, thank you so much! I've had a lot of struggle in the past with my photography... portraiture in particular but that really means the world so thank you! 🙂 Looking forward to hearing from you again, all the best! Josh
Hi guys, I really love these shots and this video for the behind the scenes look at how you got them. The first shot especially in the hat shop is a favourite and one I keep looking at on Instagram. Thinking of finally pulling the trigger on a Rolleiflex myself, to use it for street portraits an still life shooting. Do you have any tps on how to get the most out of the image quality? There seems to be a lot of variation online which I think might come down to the lighting/flare control and how the negatives are scanned. I know you two proably develop and scan yourselves but do you have any recommendations for quality development and scanning online services, that I can post, to for similar results to yours? Keep the photo and video uploads coming, would love to see more street portrait work. Luke
Hey! Thank you so much! I'm so happy with how these turned out, Mathew in the hat shop is definitely one of my favourites from the day 🙂 I'd definitely say go for it! They are such a breeze to use, they do all the work and even at wide open seem to have incredibly sharp results! We do a lot of our scanning but will occasionally use a local lab known as Nik & Tricks. They offer a postal service and are honestly second to none. Their quality control and equipment are absolutely incredible and we couldn't fault them! We really appreciate your kind words. It honestly goes a long way! All the best, and do let us know if you decide to get your hands on a Rolleiflex 🙂 Stay safe, happy shooting! Josh & Tom
Interesting video. Thank you RS. Canada

Stunning exposures, love the story told in them. Im keen to try this on my hasselblad swc
Ah that really means a lot! Thank you! Really appreciate you watching and commenting 🙂 Best of luck if you do give it a try! I'm sure it will work just as well on the hassy 👌 Let us know how you get on if you do 🙂 All the best, happy shooting, Josh ✌️
Looks like an interesting film. BTW I never use a squeegee. There is always a chance of a piece of grit getting between the blades. I rinse my fingers in the final film wash and use them.
I've never had a problem with it before. I usually rinse my squeegee to make sure it's free of any dirt or grit but I don't believe I did for that particular roll 😕 it is what it is I suppose... Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
Good morning! 👋. Great video, thank you :)
Hey! Thank you so much! 🙂
Good info here and an enjoyable video.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it! 🙂
Hi there, can I ask which developer you are using and the developing times for the varying ISO?
Hey, I used Euro HC by Bellini for these particular rolls. I used slightly different dilutions (Dilution H and Dilution D) but the developing times remained the same at 100iso Dev times 🙂 Dilution H seemed to produce the best results and gives a lot more control with the developing as well 🙂 I hope that helps. All the best, happy shooting! Josh
@@OnlyAnalogue Thanks Josh.
Love the red filter drama Josh, great portrait too!
Thank you, Richard! 🙂 I always have time for some red filter drama 👌 Really appreciate you watching and commenting as always! Hope you're well
Love the portrait. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Tony 🙂
Love the film and the stills - great portrait, I can see why you were pleased with it.
Thank you so much, it really means a lot! The portrait is easily my favourite of the batch 🙂 Thanks again, happy shooting! Josh
love your shots and the vlog, question i ve started home developing B & W 35mm film fixing with ilford rapid fixer, how many uses will 1 litre mix be ok for before needing re mixing fresh?
Thank you so much! I usually use my fix for 3/4 rolls of film in one sitting and then swap out for a fresh mix. It's wise to add a bit of time on after each use. Dilute it as instructed on the bottle (1+4 for Ilford rapid fix I believe) and then try and do a few films in one go if you can. Then get rid of that after and start again for the next batch! Hope that helps and makes sense 🙂 best of luck with it! We are always here if you need any help at all 🙂
If this helps. I mix up 500 ml at a time at 1:4 (I use both 35mm and 120). The first two films I fix for 4 mins, the next two for 4 1/2 mins, the next two for 5 mins, the next two for 6 mins. I then make up a new batch. I could be conservative on the number of films. But this has always worked for me. So (if my maths is correct) I can fix 60 films from 1 litre.
Great pictures and video. I have shot GP3 in 4x5 and like it and will defiantly be trying the 120 or 220. How did you get on with loading it onto the developing tank spiral, do's the extra length make it any more difficult.
Thank you so much! Oh nice, I'd love to try it in 4x5! How did you get on with it? Honestly it was plain sailing. Didn't have any issues with loading it on at all 🙂 Thanks for watching and commenting, it means a lot! All the best, happy shooting! Josh
@@OnlyAnalogue GP3 in 4x5 is just as nice as your 120, it's not T Max or Delta 100 quality nor is it T Max or Delta 100 price.
Mate ; I have an MX - EVS Rollei / 75mm 3.5 with the 10 aperture blades , I did a few portraits with it in Vietnam 6 years ago the first time I had it out ...was new to me. She performed magnificently , and I am so pumped to do more street traveling again . I am getting use to my newest Rollei , the 55mm F4 DISTAGON Wide Rollei , she has a meter and the meter is accurate though not a " linked " meter , that baby was attended to by Harry Fleenor in USA . Your work is very nice , the first shot , and the shot of the man with long beard ...I like .
Oh nice! They really are amazing bits of kit. I'm so thankful to have mine 🙂 That sounds amazing! My preferred shooting style is wide so I can only imagine the results you will have out of that 😁 Really appreciate you watching and the kind words. It really does mean a lot!
