Swollen knee and foot since knee replacement on 7th November. What to do?
@@SuesanJones if it were me, I’d do more ankle pumps while sitting and standing. I’d walk and move around until I’d become too exhausted to go any further, then kick my feet up; you’d want it elevated above the level of your heart. I’d put heat on the back of the knee (you want the fluid to move up and out) and continue with the ankle pumps
❤❤hello thank you for your video ❤ i had knee replacement surgery on 10-29-24 and its been 3 weeks since the surgery ❤each day get better and better ❤ 💙 ♥ the surgery was on my left knee and my right knee has to be done in February or March❤I'm 67 and I've had breast cancer twice and I have neuropathy and nerve damage from the chemo ❤ 💙 and I don't know how it's going to be through my recovery ❤ ❤

Had my surgery 10-14-24. Did home therapy and now doing out patient therapy. Still have some stiffness and swelling off and on.

@@BetterWithBrandowell, im going to play basketball again and work on dunking again. Haven't been able to since I was 29. I'm 43 and also had a Total Hip Replacement 15 months ago. My recoverys are quick and I'm In the best shape of my life. I haven't ever even taken a week off of training since I was 14 years old. I'm a trainer and strength coach and Athletic Trainer and plan on living my life to the fullest. I love your channel.

@@BetterWithBrandomight be a year or so but im going to work on it. I also may train for masters Olympics 100m... I ran a 10.38 in high school 11 months after an ACL surgery and never know what I can do in my 40’s.
I was able to do 10 sit to stands at 17 day’s post op. I did a lot of pre-hab Along with riding my bike outdoors. I’m not sure I could do wall sits, but I’ll give them a try! My surgery was 10/11/24 on my right knee

@@BetterWithBrando My surgeon did a great job, I could lift my leg right after surgery, and my extension was 0 degrees right away. My pain was minimal and well. Controlled. I had 2 weeks of i. Home PT and was discharged with a flexion of 110 to outpatient pt. I did the work and balanced it with rest and good nutrition. I’m still sorting out how to get a good nights sleep, but I’ll get there!
@ wow! Yeah… not everyone walks out with that experience. Super happy for your! What are you going to do with that new knee of your anyway?
@ I had 2 goals. The first was to be am able ke to ride my bike longer distances, and the second was to be able scuba dive and get up a ladder to the boat from the water with my gear on!

@@MariaSilva-bo8yk just remember that you’ll be walking out with a brand new knee! 😊 it’s all about perspective The faster you start moving, the faster you’ll recover. Check out some of the videos I have on knee replacement when you get the chance.

@@mithokhan7896 as much as you can tolerate = more is more. When to start after surgery? As soon as you can tolerate. Just no touching the surgical tape or scar. And you’ll do this til you ask yourself, “why am I doing this? My knee moves around just fine.”

@@dewey4th check out the related video. But, while I have you here, 1) stand up 2) turn around 3) put your foot on the ottoman or chair 4) stand as tall as you can. You’ll feel a stretch in the front of your thigh

@@BetterWithBrando I actually dance around the house with fun music to strengthen / stretch. Chronic pain is hard and pre-op anxiety is as well - trying to lighten up the mood. I know I’m lucky to be able to do that in prehab - not everyone can.

I have a right TKR revision coming up. I had a right TKR in 2012. I developed a secondary infection in my knee after a UTI became septic. I have an arthrodesis of my left knee. I appreciate this video because it is helpful. I am doing exercises preop as suggested by PT.

@@cherylhenderson2323 No two people are going to tolerate these stretches and exercises the same. Still, to answer your question, Day 1. Only do what you can tolerate

This was a good video with good tips. I'm 8 months out and my knee is still stiff. Still doing exercises and walking great. My tip for you would be to ditch the music. It didnt add anything to the video and was in fact a bit annoying. Your tips were great though.

I found this video helpful. I am 5 weeks PO and I do have a tendency to want to protect the operative knee. To hear you call it the strong knee is very helpful I'm still in rehab and do my daily exercises at home, but these are very helpful also. BTW, I did Pre- OP exercise weeks before I had surgery 2x daily. PT had said they can always tell when someone has done Pre- OP exercises compared to those who did not. Have a great day!
@@kathystclair9485 Hello Kathy! Pre-Op makes a HUGE difference. Great on you for putting in the work before your surgery. Recovering from a knee replacement, I’ve seen, is not for the weak, but it’s so worth it! I hope that you’re able to go back to doing things you once enjoyed.

@6minutes. That sitting with legs straight position. I used to work all day in exactly that position because I was too tight to sit cross-legged. Oh my! (ACF)

@@dzontravolta3952 might have to work on your rotator cuff and shoulder blade. Quick tip: move your shoulder blade in the same direction the elbow is traveling in

arm circles in both directions. not at once. (giggle) palms up circle back, flip your hands, change the circle direction. "like changing channels" 10-12" circles. (Metric? You do the conversion) It is a magic exercise to coordinate the shoulderblades. go for 40 in each direction. (I tend to do 10 Forward, 10 Back, 20 Forward 20 Back, then 10 Forward, 10 Back. Feel your arms and shoulderblades moging but your ribcage soft and still (not moving - except breathing. ;) I find this works form wrist pain and finger pain. Yes I did say that.

While rehabbing my partial replacement and spending countless hours scouring RUclips for useful suggestions related to pain relief, I discovered your channel. I have found your suggestions to be on point. Not only that, but you get to the subject matter very quickly. Thank you for posting these videos. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience. Also, the low key manner in which you teach is key. Calm, relaxed, confident, and to the point. I’ve been struggling with post-op depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, along with the pain and stiffness. I’m seeing improvement at 5 weeks. I’m surprised at how much of a struggle it is to gain range of motion back. I wrote a gratitude list today to shift my thinking from hopelessness to something positive. These look like great exercises and I will definitely add them to my daily routine! You have a nice voice and demeanor but the video would be better without the annoying music and frequent camera shifts.

If the usa weren't so afraid of helping patients with pain control for two months, they'd be able to move better faster and sleep and have less anxiety and tears
Hello Jennifer! I think the medical culture in the US places less emphasis on addressing patient’s anxiety about recovery from a total knee replacement. A client of mine received manipulation under anesthesia just recently because she couldn’t get a handle on moving her knee enough due to the pain. I’m so sorry you’ve been having a tough time with your recovery. ❤️🩹 Unfortunately, the pain is going to be there. @@BetterWithBrando anxiety can be an issue for some as well. I've had full range, unless it's swollen, since week two. A pain break would be super nice at night
