These are my videos on antique hand plane restoration and sales. I enjoy tuning up and when necessary restoring old planes and other tools. I will post videos of some of my planes here before I list them on eBay. Contact me using the email address below if you want to buy the Stanley SW Tote Decals or the signs for the Hardware Store Sign project, etc. I'm sorry to say I don't sell parts because I need all I have for my restoration projects. I do have a few bench plane bottoms I can sell, mostly 4s and 5s. And despite the popular demand... my blonde wood wig is not for sale. My eBay store is Second Chance Antique Tools. stores.ebay.com/Second-Chance-Antique-Tools?_rdc=1
The Plane Axe
In this video I restore an odd tool that is seldom seen. This would be a nice addition to your plane collection if you want one nobody else has! Definitely a conversation piece. It was made by the Plane Axe Corporation of Providence Rhode Island.

Removing, Replacing and Tightening Lateral Adjustment Levers

Not an easy task but it can be done. This video shows the method I use for Stanley planes. Please keep in mind this takes some practice and my method might not be right for you. Try it on an expendable frog first, don't do it the first time on a valuable collectable plane.

Stanley No. 10 Carriage Maker's Rabbet Plane
Thanks Plane Collector. One thing that helps me is a 'retrieving magnet' from Harbor Freight. It grips those blades like glue and acts as a handle so you can pass the whole thing over the sandpaper without nibbling at the edges or risking your fingers. Cheers!
I love your videos and I hope you are making a comeback. I found your channel not too long ago and went to find your eBay store to buy some of these fantastic treasures you find and was heartbroken to find it shut down. Wishing you the best and a speedy return.
I have one like that with frog adjustment screws, frog is black. Was a rusted heap when it was given to me. Pulled the knob and tote, dropped it in evporust, then took it apart, cleaned it up. Sharpened the blade. works well.
Good Period of Instruction Marine! Thanks!
Hi, I’m in New Zealand and have a small carriage makers plane, it is s No.10, the sole is 8 and 15/16ths in length, width is 2 and1/16ths with the blade width as 2 and 1/8th wide. So smaller than a standard Stanley No.3. I can’t find any information on it are you able to help please? The lever cap is broken and I don’t have the broken bottom. If you know of this plane do you know where I can purchase a replacement lever cap? Thanks for considering this. Ross
I keep coming back, hoping Keith is still around. Anyone know where he is?
Shocked you do not have more subscribers - you are my go-to guy for learning about the Stanley planes - keep at it!
Hey Stanley ❤🎉😂
I have 2. A #4 and a #5. (type 20)? They work fine for me. I hear people complaining the frog is non adjustable. But, seriously, How often do you adjust the frog on a plain? I love mine. They're keeper's.
Amazing content, truly one of a kind source of very specyfic topics of hand plane restoration on RUclips. Got my hands on very rusty and old Millers Falls no14 and just popped the very bent and loose lever off five minutes ago! Thanks to your detailed, step by step instructions I mustered up some courage and gave that thing a few gentle whacks. Thank you and sending love from Poland!
I think Veritas took this design and fine tuned a bit including the ability to unscrew the bottom of the blade for the ease of sharpening
Why didn’t you show the reassembly after cleaning to me? That was the most important part and what I wanted to see
Complimenti un lavoro fantastico! Posso chiederle come l ha verniciata?
Well done.I actually have made latteral adjusters from scratch.Intricate some what but I found it quite easy.I am currently building a N• 1 size plane and its very hard because every thing is so small
no! that's MY plane!
Appreciate it greatly ole Plane Collector
Miss this man. Hope he is well and enjoying life.
The funniest thing I’ve seen is the video where they scrape a plane sole flat with a machinist scrapper to something like .001
Thanx for the video, how much did that ol girl sell for ?
I know this is an old video but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you sharing how you did this
Greetings from Australia. I would give you the Nobel Prize in Plane Restoration for this one..
Hi. I just discovered your channel over the past week and I want to say they are a game changer and a great help. Thank you! I hope you are well.
Some great tips thanks! I already have a couple a decent planes, two Stanley no 4s and a Record 5 1/2. I've just taken delivery of another old Stanley no 4 which I'm trying to restore for my brother. Most of the parts are good, but unfortunately, the lateral adjuster has a major flaw. The metal seems to be too thick for the frog and the front face of the lateral stands slightly proud of the face of the frog preventing the blade from seating correctly. Also the lateral adjuster catches on the back of the blade when trying to adjust to either side. Were the lateral adjusters made in different thicknesses ? I'm assuming someone has replaced it with a new one which is too thick for the frog. Is this a common problem ?
Great to see videos done by someone who knows what they are doing. No BS .You don't go overboard .Your results speak for them selves.I restore mine just about the same way.Well done Cheers Old school Richie
Just bought one, to do a 9 degree angled window sill. Far better than veritas plane fence....as it adds weight and stability and is strong. Will refurb it following your instructions. Thanks.
Looks fresh off the production line, great to see quality, you must be very satisfied. Thanks for sharing.
Stop telling public about millers falls, they are cheaper and better than Lie ?Nielsen when fettled and set up right. 80 grit on a whitehead linisher running fast on silicon oxide is the business
Great restoration now to do the ton of planes that I own.
I compared lie Nielsen number 4 1/2 to the millers falls 4 1/2. After tuning both, The Nielsen was very very attractive and heavier and worked very well but the bite of the millers falls was far superior….it was like comparing a ride in a Cadillac to one in a rolls Royce .
What do you use to cut the slot for the blade 🤔
PlaneCollector8753 (may he RIP) debunked this theory. You may recall PlaneCollector8753 as the mountain of a man that wore the wig made of wood shavings/curls. I am going to defer to his results. Search for “planecollector8753 lapping” to find the video whose title begins with the word “BUSTED”
Thanks for the video. Check out “ Museum of Our Industrial Heritage “ The museum is located in Greenfield,Mass and has a lot of early American machinist tools as well as carpenters tools that were made in that area along with Miller Falls tools.
Thorough and inspiring expertise which I hope to duplicate one step at a time!!
Thanks. I have a #5 with a broken tote, a tote I was going to replace. I'm going to see if I can repair it before I give up on it.
Hi, beautiful work, I bought one recently and it is in worse condition than yours, but you will look incredible, a question, what is the angle you gave the blade?
Give me yellow blue and gold
Thanks for the years of great content. Hope you’re doing well.
Blade was probably from a number 11
i miss this guy
I don’t know what happened to this page, but watching all of these got me through the pandemic. I learned so much from these videos. Thank you for each and every one of these videos.
Hello sir, I have buy one in reaseonabele condition, but the deckchisel has no logo on his front. Does this happen often? There is a number 397 on the back. Have you an idea how old it is? Greetings from Holland.
If they're in decent shape and tuned well I like them. I'm okay with collectors not liking them as much because I've gotten a couple of nice jointer planes for a few dollars apiece.
Where do you get the big sandpaper pieces?
Great vid man!
Lovely job!
Kia Ora & Good Evening from North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand …great video bro …
Completely agree with your video! I simply can not believe that tightening TWO SCREWS, not bolts but SCREWS into cast metal I might add, can have any impact on the surface of the sole.
Anyone knows what happened to this man. He has not had any video for years
Hey plane collector! I really enjoy watching your restoration tutorials and was wondering if you can use a shellack in aerosol spray instead on the knob and tote?
I bought one last year at a garage sale for 5 bucks. I'm beginning the task of completely restoring it to its original condition in the hopes of selling. Appears to be a solid plane.
