Another great exercise to encourage your players to make quick decisions, have lots of touches and practice playing with a double pivot of screen option

Greg, love these videos. Would you mind sharing your favourite white board / game play app? I'm looking to download something to visualise with the players
I don't have anything, just a bog standard magnetic one. I use ppt to make these
What about the 3-4-3 formation. Known as the diamond midfield formation
I don't tend to play with a back 3 but I'm sure it can be a great formation
Interested to know what type of software/ programme you are using? Excellent video thank you
Microsoft PowerPoint
Any videos planned for 3 at the back systems? Or what about 2-3-2-3?
Probably not for the 3 at the back as I tend to not start with this and simply promote either a CB or a WB if we're not under a high press. Other than that I'm not a fan. I do like the 2323 though so I'll do that at some point.
@@hockey4life418 Excellent, I look forward to watching it. While I too am a fan of 4 at the back, my intrigue around 3 at the back systems comes from the fact the majority of international teams seem to set up this way. Would love to know more. Your videos on formations and positioning are the best I've found online (Including some of the subscription based coaching services). Really helping me get back into the sport after almost 15 years away!
Hi Greg, what application do you use to make illustrations of these drills ? It’s simple plug and play , I like it.
Ms PowerPoint. Actually takes a lot of time and animations
Hi Greg, I cannot thank you enough for your detailed videos. They have helped me immensely as a coach and I believe was a massive factor in my school side winning a county championship. Very Best wishes
Thanks for taking the time to write such a kind message. You made my day. Glad you found them helpful! Check out the three rondo videos if you haven't as they are really great for improving your team quickly
Your videos are the best on RUclips
Thisn formation indeed makes the two presses easy to do! Great explanation thank you
I can see the triangles form when you shift the lines on attack, so thats good! At first it looked way to linear to me However, this formation makes the presses quite hard to learn, not easier, due to the positions being all dynamic for that. There is no natural structure to do that press out of the 2-2-2
Yeah you could be right. I personally haven't played it with any of my teams but made it for a team that are playing it and seems to be going well
@@hockey4life418 your video on 4231 seems to solve that issue for us!
@@bavobruylandt2378 that's what I use with my teams
Thanks for the video. Really interesting to see how there are different ways to utilise that back four transfer. Senior players might get the idea of the press better also having the mindset of letting opponents play wide and then compress/ collapse the middle.
How best does a team beat a high press team
Take the ball early so the other team can't press. Or chuck an aerial over the press. Or if your CDM are confident players and can move the ball quickly that can also break it.
Hockey 7 down @ 5 oclock is a back to front by clock garage then becomes a vortex hurricane where the sparrow was suppossed to lift of from by the mcdonalds bill board last week then while i get into sandwell it becomes a enourmous J long skinny handle
Really good videos and drills - best on youtube thank you! One question please - I'm coach for a very small men's club I have only 18-20 players and a goalie at training but the problem is such a range of skills. I have 7-8 really strong players and tbh the rest would be more like your 5th team players or up coming juniors.. If I set rondo up with mix of ability it just falls apart because of a weak link in skill levels the better players want/need intensity - should I put the weaker players all together only, but then they will not progress. (the weaker old players I've got are probably not goign to really improve but the young weaker players need something more. One other thing be really good if you did a few good shooting drills where there is not too much standing around waiting to take shot, many thanks!! Great vids!
Is it just you or do you have someone else coaching. I think it's fine to split them up as long as at times you include them all together (in the same session). The rondos will make them progress due to the number of touches on the ball and when they make bad decisions just ask them if they had the same opportunity again, what would they differently and they grow rapidly
Take a look at Etienne over @fieldhockeyeducation. I've found his videos very useful and he has some great shooting exercises. Also I have a subscription to performance hockey coaching (get your club to buy a membership for you...it's super cheap) and there's tons of good stuff to help you
Hi. What software or app do you use for this? Very useful btw 😊. Thanks

What makes Kookaburras so good at hockey???? 1.Stamina 2.Basic Skills 3.Attacking Approach 4.Intelligent running here and there on the field to create open space.. Do they possess all Qualities???
How do kookaburras manage to play attacking hockey all 4 Quarters??? Is it all about physical strength or stamina? Is it all about skills and good use of the pitch running here and there creating gaps????
Quick Q: what programme/software do you use for these? Thanks
Hi David. Microsoft PowerPoint
@@hockey4life418 Works well. Thanks.
As always great content! Thanks. Looking forward to the next :-) Is your favourite formation 4222? Is it easy to adopt?
Great content as always! Can't wait for the next formation videos. Thanks a lot! Any long corner strategies? ;-)
Long corners are an interesting concept. I'll see what I can come up with
I like the “mega” press as the opposition go backwards! Can I ask what software you use for your coaching board

Good Work looks good🎉🎉
Great videos. Can you do something on 4-4-2 and do you think its still possible to play with a sweeper in modern hockey?
442 for me is more of a football formation but yes the 1333 is a great system which has the sweeper. Pretty much the same as 4333 but you split the CB
@@hockey4life418 Yes, 1-3-3-3 is probably what I meant! The (1+3) is kind of 4 at the back on push back but then on sweeper obviously has more freedom than CB. Maybe you could do something on playing with a sweeper - pros/cons. Thank you.
@@TangibleLife Sorry for taking so long to reply. I would set out offensively the same as I described in the video but for transferring I prefer the 2 centre back options. However, promoting one into the midfield if the opposition are strong there is an option but the mindset of outletting remains the same. For a press though, and the sweeper being a front sweeper check out Field Hockey Education channel and look at latest video on 3/4 press. I really like it and will be moving away from zonal as too easy to go wrong.
Great video, do you maybe have some videos abou 6 (5+GK) a side? Maybe also for indoor hockey?
Sorry Luka I don't. Only ever played indoor once sadly. Glad you enjoyed the video
looks good, which program did you use to make this?
I'm a teacher and it's the software we use at school. A basic version is free to use and its called activ inspire

When we pressing in left side using all our players...if the opponent made a over head pass to right which is empty it will be exposed
Hi Muthu, if they have that in their locker then yes but the idea is only to press half the pitch so would have to be a huge overhead. The press is intense and their player would have very little time to execute. If they have a flicker capable of that they will probably rely on that and I would switch to a 3/4 or half press.
This doesn't make sense. Long corners aren't taken at the half way line...
I know but for some stupid reason at school hockey (when playing 7s) they do this but in reality it's a little further than than the 23. I shouldn't have used that pitch layout in the video. Thanks for bringing it to my attention and I'll redo.
