2018.05.05 Baltic Princess Departing Port of Turku Finland for Stockholm Sweden
Simply a camera aimed at the passing shoreline or small islands aboard the Baltic Princess as she departs the Port of Turku in Western Finland on its overnight cruise to Stockholm Sweden. This 15-minute sequence of the ship's departure was captured during that early evening period when the entire scene is bathed under a "golden light" countries at high latitudes such as Finland are known for. No narration nor musical soundtrack. Simply the sound of the rushing wind (at times loud-no windsock available) past the camera's microphone. Output in 4K (2160p) though master recording was limited to HD (1080p).

Boeing 777-9X First Flight (4K Slideshow)

The First Flight of any new commercial aircraft model is a rare occurrence. On the morning of January 23, 2020 Boeing announced their newest 777 wide body, the larger 9X model, would make that attempt. It was not to be with winds exceeding the maximum speeds allowed. A disappointing end for the many thousands who endured hours of cold, wet and winds. A 2nd attempt was scheduled the following mo...

You're most welcome, Richard. I hope this provided a little insight to what is in store for you. I arrived in Zermatt on the same Glacier Express from St. Moritz the day before. Worth every hour I spent on that train, too. Enjoy your upcoming journey.

ツェルマットではアジア人観光客をたくさん見かけました。 日本から何人が来たのかは定かではありませんが、日本語でアナウンスを聞くことは、日本からの訪問者に対応する必要性を示す良い指標です。 I did see many Asian tourist in Zermatt while there. How many were from Japan I'm not certain but hearing the announcements in Japanese is a good indicator of the need to address the visitors from the country.

We spent 10 days in and near Zermatt as part of a European trip some years ago. It was early autumn, and raining lightly when we alighted from the Glacier Express to be met by a horse-drawn carriage to take us to a very, very comfortable hotel on the town square. Then the rest of the time, we stayed in a cottage a few minutes walk from one of the Bahn's stations - Riffelberg from memory, certainly well towards the top. We certainly needed a fire each night to keep warm. We'd travel down to the town each day for various expeditions, sometimes staying there for an early dinner (the last train back was around 19.30 or so), sometimes buying some food to cook ourselves. Very different to our suburban life here and a great experience.

Just to add - we were travelling independently and not part of an organised tour.

I believe that was Chinese (Mandarin?) instead of Japanese used. Not that I speak either but simply based on the number of tourist I saw in Zermatt. The welcoming announcement was made in 3 different languages: Deutch; English & Mandarin(?)

Wow. From Wiki: "The line is 9,339 m (30,640 ft) in length, including 3,790 m (12,434 ft) of double track, and traverses an altitude difference of 1,469 m (4,820 ft). It is built to metre gauge (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) and uses the Abt rack system throughout. It is one of four lines in the world using three-phase electric power, requiring two overhead conductors, with the track forming the third conductor." Fascinating.

I rode the Gornergrat Bahn in 1991 on a visit to Zermatt. Thank you for sharing and providing a nice memory. I was there in summer and less snow. I was backpacking around Switzerland and wanted to honor my Friend Kevin who Tragically lost his life on a North wall Matterhorn Assent in '88. I spent several days in Zermatt. Beautiful to say the least. Breathtaking squared.

Beside the cogwheel, an interesting point for electrical engineers is that this line is one of two three-phase powered lines in Switzerland (the other one being the Jungfraujoch). Look at the double overhead wire system, and the complexity of contactless crossings above the switches

I just wonder why they bothered have 2 electrical lines going up next to each other. Surely you wouldn't need any power if you are going downhill?
