Apparently, Harry also said that the soldiers were carrying round shields rather than the traditional rectangular curved ones. Again, subsequent research has linked this type of shield with auxiliary forces. Also, on emerging somewhat shocked from the cellar he met the museum curator who immediately said "By the look of you, you've seen the Romans!

Two very interesting videos. I have walked the city walls many times and seen the remains of the Roman walls but this gives a coherent image of how they relate to each other.

@@piecesofyork2644 I'm wondering how those working as tour guides (such as yourself!), ghost walkers, tour bus operators etc coped with the lockdowns? Have walks still been taking place? What have been the financial implications? Also how has the Minster fared? I believe it costs £23,000 a day to run the Minster and a good proportion of that comes from visitor revenue. Has the ongoing programme of renovations had to be stalled for example? Thanks Paul.

Felt so bad for the woman lacking necessities but also access to mental health help problems with one surely make the other worse. There but for the grace of God. I was a bit isolated even before and my "copes" then were going to cafes or cinema, now I am accessing help from different organisations or charities which make do things on Zoom.

my friend. lovely to see you on here. and yes we are lucky to be locked down in warm houses, and to be able to access help, albeit facing our own challenges. i felt as we are documenting the changing streets through these times, it was really important to share her story. a sadness is she didn't think her opinion would be needed and wanted to hide the bottle off cam,,, when in fact her story and struggle was the most important of them all.

Thanks so much for your Pandemic Diary. Much appreciated. I love York but can't visit, for obvious reasons. I've been wondering how the second lockdown is affecting all the small businesses and tourist attractions. I hope it doesn't lead to too many permanent closures. Fingers crossed.

hi, not very well i would say. many shop owners are struggling with high rents, many shops have already closed, and with york relying on retail and tourism we are thought to be one of the two worst hit cities economically.

@@piecesofyork2644 So sorry to hear that Paul. I expect that when I next visit many of the businesses I'm familiar with will no longer be there. How sad. York doesn't have it easy does it? Flooding is also a big worry of course. York is, above all, a very resilient city. It's overcome worse than this in it's very long history so let's stay positive! Thanks again for ALL your videos Paul. I watch them whenever I'm missing the place (which is a lot). Great work.

York Minster, the Cathedral next to the statue, is part of the Church of England and therefore Protestant. It was originally consecrated as a Catholic Cathedral before the English Reformation in the 16th Century.
