In my first cook of the year, I wanted to cook a brisket in my brand new Super 55 drum smoker and use my Masterbuilt Gravity Series 800 to hold it at 145 overnight using my fireboard pro 2 drive that I installed earlier in 2023. It turned out AMAZING and now I'm confident that I have a perfect long hold warmer for my BBQ Adventures! Check out the Super 55 here: ...

Must Have Masterbuilt Gravity Series Add ons!
so what rub is best for meatball your SPG or Voodoo ?
God Damit why didn’t I watch your video first 😂 watched someone else and he cut the wires and spliced them together 😅 your way was much better
hah! Non-destructive always first!
Made the switch for all 3 connections as shown in the video, but the fan still won't kick in... suggestions??
Found it!
Trying to find the solar pack and can’t find in the description?
It’s def there!
That's the sound of the auger trying to turn with wood chips wedged between it and the auger tube. You're lucky nothing broke because using _anything_ other than Traeger's own pellets in a traeger grill voids the warranty.
It's clear that the demand is out there. I wonder why companies don't make stronger augers to be able to use wood chips.
thanks for the test. won't do it on my Traeger thanks to you. is there any way to inject wood chips other than through the auger?
Clowns like this burn down houses.
Did you end up leaving your ambient temperature probe in the original spot or did you end up moving it somewhere else
To this day it is still there. Works perfectly fine.
Hey thanks- this put me over the top on buying one, I’d seen some bad reviews surrounding the quality (of perhaps the earliest release). Do you have a video on installing the fireboard?
Sure do! Check out the other videos on the channel.
Does this install on a 560 as well?
I would assume so but I’m unable to confirm since I don’t own one. Same technology. Just a matter of how you install it.
@@Smokingmeatsbbq I figure fit up is potentially the only difference. Do you have any videos on how you made that thing solar powered? I just love all this electronic modding you've done.
yes check out my video titled “must have gravity series add ons.” I talk about it there and have the links needed. It’s just a simple cable and a battery pack.
Saved my Brisket on the 4th of July. Thank you!!!!
Love it! Happy 4th!
Omg you’re a man of the people.
Amen! Smoke on!!
Another testimonial here. Saved a low and slow 12 hour plus butt cook for 4th of July. Will be buying the connectors and bypassing the switches
Love it! Happy fourth!! We have a brisket on too!
@Smokingmeatsbbq I really appreciate your Redneck "in a pinch" solution and then a more professional safer solution.
Wow that worked. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
My Masterbuilt Gravity series 600 came with a detached wire to the ash door sensor this video helped me get it up and running. happy pre 4th of July!
Awesome! Happy 4th!
What is the mod on the handle?
This is a weber grill light. Its a snug fit, but its nice to have light when you open the hood at night. I'll put the link in the description of this video now.
@johnmccaffery5186 5 months ago Great tip on the GST connectors and the 5 V/12 V adapter, was about to spend big money on alternative. was thinking about more probes also.Ash catch mode freat idea too. Thanks.
nice! Glad it saved you some $$
thanks so much - so easy!
You're welcome!
I don't need this toy , I want this toy ....... the Controller that Masterbuilt gives with the grill is in a word a PIECE of sheet !!!! They literally went with the lowest bidder when deciding which chinese company to buy the controller from !
Time to upgrade! To this day, I still love this setup more than anything I own!
How does the battery hold up for longer cooks? Was looking at an inverter but your battery pack looks like a pretty good solution - and less expensive.
I've been using this pack for over a year now. I also occaisionally use a different pack if this one is dead. I typically find that I can get through any length of cook including 15 hour brisket cooks.
This man is a genius.
If you tie the bird up with sisal rope there is no weight shift....that is the main reason you had issues I am sure
You’re probably right. However, it should still work, I did find that the unit is very particular and likely underpowered is the root cause.
I just bought mine already built from Home Depot, no owners manual included. How do I get the temperature computer to work? There’s no way to do it with batteries? I have to use some solar charger and cable? I feel like my floor model may be missing something here, at least a cable for the power?
It sounds like you were missing the 110 V wall adapter cable that you will need to operate the unit. You may want to reach out to Masterbuilt to see if they will replace it for you or you could buy one from them directly.
I have had my Masterbuilt 3 years now. Hands down the best griller/smoker I have ever used. Having said that there is a new griller/smoker on the market I got my eye on......
What’s that?
@@Smokingmeatsbbq The Spider Huntsman.
That handle and the back vent damper. Where did you get those from?
The back damper is from Klotes Mods, the handle? I’m not sure what you are referring to. If it’s the light on the handle, it’s just a Weber grill light.
@@Smokingmeatsbbq I had seen the lss mods for this. Their back damper was great but you have to loosen it everytime to open the lid. Klotes mods seems a much better alternative.
You know there’s really no reason for me to listen to Alicia keys while you’re showing me this
Fair point, but it works!
Just used your code and pulled trigger. Been getting great results on a $99 ChiCom knockoff. Decided to go ahead and get smoker #7. Favorite is offset if time allows. Most used are pellets because time does allow. Barrel seems to fall right into that area in between. Not too much longer to get cooking than pellet grill. And we are short of smokers down here in The Republic of Texas. Lol Thank you
Awesome man! You’re gonna love it! I have full the build video coming soon! Been loving mine! Thanks for the support!
You save my birthday. Thank you for this video very much.!!!
Glad I could help!
I have a camp chef pellett grill. I rarely have to vacuum it as it has a trap door for the ash you just pull a lever when youre done. Id really like one of these gravity grills but i use the pellett grill for everything from pizza to frozen chicken nuggets. Just the ease of being able to hit start and go prep food is nice. And or call the wife and say hey hun will you start the grill. 😅.. I do feel like i can get some better meals out of the gravity but i haven't justified it in my head yet. And space wise id need to get rid of the pellett grill.
I will agree that a pellet smoker is faster to start… however it’s not that big of a difference. That’s where the differences end. After that these things can do anything and more that a pellet can do. And do it with flavor!
@Smokingmeatsbbq I was going to upgrade my pellett grill but I'm thinking about giving mine to my father and getting a gravity. Then if I'm satisfied getting him one.
Great plan!
saved my dinner party! can confirm the tinfoil works. Bought the linked connectors to bypass forever.
Love it!
Great video, I never thought to use my Masterbuilt 560 (especially since I did the fireboard drive 2 conversion as well) I will be doing an overnight hold on it next brisket. Thx buddy
I tried with my solar bank 20000mAh with an outpouring of 2.1A and doesn’t work, when a setup de temperature, my gravity 900 restart. Do I need another thing to transform my Masterbuilt electric in a solar one? Thanks!
Are you using the adapter cable I recommended?
@@Smokingmeatsbbq yes & the battery
But I don’t have the fireboard
With that new controller can you still run it off of a 110 house plug? And also do you lose the Bluetooth connection to the masterbuilt app
I do not run it off 110 as that fireboard operates off its own battery and/or a USB input. However, I supposed if wanted, you could run it off 110v with a usb plug like charging a cell phone.. and Yes you lose the masterbuilt app when you change this out, however you get a FAR BETTER app within the fireboard app which you will love.
Man saved a guy Memorial Day. Thanks brother.
Love it! Smoke on!
Real quick, you said 'Costco picked up back loin ribs" then after a while "it looks like my butcher has taken care of that for me.." Which is it?
It was Costco. Just referring to the Costco butcher haha
Awesome video I just got one today and it’s so sweet that you can set bbq temp vs meat temp and alerts for each channel or bbq temp and meat temp.
Perfect! You saved the evening. Thank you!
Smoke on!
Great Video Thank You. When needed I will be getting and installing the Fireboard Pro 2
Thank you so much dude! This is the best video in that regard so far. Very straightforward and very helpful! Thank again 👌🏽😊
Thank You for the video. Very Informative.
Wish I would’ve seen this yesterday. I will be trying this today. Thanks
I have been using a Masterbuilt electric smoker for 4 years. It's not wide enough for full racks or whole brisket. My question is, when the meat is done, do l just have to burn up the remaining charcoal. Seems wasteful. What's the strategy? How do you estimate amount of fuel and cook time? Thank you
@2:34 He removes slides. This opens the airflow for the coals to burn. So when done cooking replace these slides and it will snuff out the coals and you can use what is left on the next cook.
Can you share the link plz to grind it down
What's that thing on your handle?
It’s a Weber grill light
Yes, its the Weber Grill N' Go light.
You are a life saver! The chimney switch burnt out on me and the lid switch is a pain in the Boston butt. This is exactly what I was looking for. Also thanks for the links! Subscribed 😅
is it common for a brand new grill to have the fan issue? worked once on burn off then nothing $500 dollar machine for something simple not to work. but ill be getting these for by pass thank you
I am super remedial and I wasn't sure what you did with the wires to get them in to that connector then connecting it back to the grill itself. Can you spell it out for me please?
I have an issue with mine.. its like the fan is stuck on low .. i know it used to always go on real fast and when it got up to temp it would shut off or spin at a lower speed.. so i replaced the fan and it is still slow .. replaced the controller and bypassed all switches .. but still only spins at a lower speed .. any ideas ?
That may be an issue with the controller itself not sending full power to the fan. Sorry for the late response, so hopefully you got it sorted out.
