漂亮姐姐可以邀请你填一份教材使用情况的调查吗?谢谢
A lot of people say Chinese is easier than Japanese which seems weird since Chinese has all the tones.
Do you recommend fighting your way through a textbook as opposed to just reading graded readers instead?
@@paulwalther5237 In my opinion, I love using a textbook to teach me grammar and vocabulary. For me, it’s the foundation of my learning, and I use all the other tools to supplement and reinforce the textbook’s content.
I've never been happy with iTalki tutors unless it's for free conversation practice (not for Chinese for other languages). How do you utilize your teachers? Do they speak Chinese the whole lesson or mostly English or? How often do you meet? I think iTalki tutors are very reasonably priced but it still adds up. I think for beginner/upper beginner I would really really want to take a group class like at a school if at all possible but often it's not for adults.
@@paulwalther5237 I only meet with my tutor once every 3 months or so, but will probably do so more now that I’m in the 3rd textbook and grammar is getting tougher. We chat in Chinese for 5-10 minutes, then I show her small essays I had to write for my integrated Chinese workbook and she corrects my writing. I basically save all my questions for things I can’t figure out on my own for her. I think since I’ve studied other languages, I’m able to teach myself from a textbook easily enough until I get to a higher level. Hope this helps!
Happy 1,000 subscribers!!!!!!🎉🎉
@@magvs_mæstro216 thanks!
Im using both. For now, I can't choose o e overthe other. Also really loving Busuu.
Do u use audiobooks when reading the Mandarin companion books?
@@123456789tube100 No. I listened to one for about one page once but then I thought I liked reading it myself better.
Hello Chinese UI is a shambles
Meetup was discontinued in 2023, I wonder why
@@bluedunn374 It’s still around : )
I have a great experience with Skritter. I learned my first 1200-1500 characters through Skritter and I know people might say there are free options etc out there but I don’t want to muck around too much so it works well for me because it’s easy to use. Making you write rather than just memorising the characters really force you to learn the characters, the ones I learned through Skritters stuck in my mind until now. Like manual flashcards sure you can make your own by making and writing your own flashcards and make it super personalised and cheaper but I don’t really want to spend time making the flashcards rather than using the flashcards.
Whats interesting about your approach is you are learning through reading which is what I am trying to do, most people learn through speaking but reading seems more viable as thats an actual hobby.
It seems hard to learn through speaking if you have nobody to talk to.
@@paulwalther5237 yeah plus u can read on a train or a bus
I want to sound just like you!! Wow!! You are great!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Skritter is brutal, its so hard to remember to write out the characters. I think that my dream is to be able to read a book in another language.
How do u go into so many languages? Also I have found chinese easier than japanese too
I started in the 8th grade with French and German, so many years ago. One or two new languages at a time is all I can handle. I study maybe only 1/2 hour per day on average now.
@@themultilingualmind7296 that's amazing you are making progress with 30 minutes a day, good stuff 😀 Same amount of time I spend on my piano
Oh I have been waitint for this video :0
Hello
Nice
❤Thanks for your video. My tips: 1. Learning words in writing: I take a sheet of paper, fold it thrice or four times so I get sort of 8 or 16 columns which I can bend and hide words I learn or their translation. I write words down the first column, then I write translation down the second column; then I bend back the first column so I can't see words but can see translation, so I can write (translate back) down the third column and so on... And you can easily use the back side of the sheet. So it's both time and paper saving method to learn words on paper. 2. I watch short videos (there're many of them) that give extractions from c-dramas with frequently used phrases with subtitles, pinyin and translation. I can practice pronunciation and learn useful phrases.
Music so loud, hard to listen u
Are you still learning chinese?
Yep! I just haven’t had time to film another video. Probably will do an update this summer
@@themultilingualmind7296 how much time a day
On the "review with native speaker" section, you can write Pinyin with English keyboard followed by the tone# such as "Mao1" to say "cat" 👍
The story about annoying your dog was HILARIOUS! I literally LoL'd 🤣
Now you can practice the characters
I just now signed up for the Duolingo course in Chinese and was very disappointed to discover that it did not ask whether I wanted to learn simplified Mandarin (4 tone) Chinese or some other variant of Chinese that uses more than 4 tones. Which kind of Chinese does Duolingo teach????
Standard Mandarin, simplified characters, although maybe they have the option for traditional? I forgot, it’s been so long since I signed up. I don’t think they offer Cantonese.
@@themultilingualmind7296 They do offer Cantonese courses, but only to people that know Mandarin.
I'm new here. I've subscribed, saved, shared, liked.
Why do I keep forgetting 😢
She is beautiful! I'll learn from her any day! Hello gorgeous ?
It would be great if you kept uploading videos
Integrated Chinese even created some video series discussing the lives of Chinese students, which you can find on RUclips. However, it’s really difficult to understand the conversations because they speak so fast that it’s almost impossible to follow for intermediates or beginners . You need to be at least an upper intermediate or advanced learner to take advantage of that great material
I prefer SuperChinese because it’s quite different from Duolingo or HelloChinese. On the contrary, HelloChinese feels like an expensive copy of Duolingo
The worst thing about Duolingo is that you cannot save favorite words, phrases, or grammar points to practice specific vocabulary, grammar, and phrases that you want to focus on. If Duolingo had that feature, I would definitely consider paying for a premium subscription. Another major complaint I have about Duolingo is the ‘woke ideology’ they promote. I’m really fed up with the LGTBI+ genders and sexuality deliberately promoted in the dialogues. I’m really sick of that. I believe that a language learning app should stay away from such ideologies.
What is the app to learn Chinese writing? I was looking for something similar to screeder or scripter(American pronunciation… 😂) but couldn’t find anything.
No problem! It’s called Skritter
@@themultilingualmind7296 Thank you! 😘
谢谢老师! I actually just started using Duolingo to learn Mandarin, because after finishing my doctorate degree, I want continuous mental stimulation. I also currently already speak Spanish, and can understand Italian, Portuguese, and French and communicate conversationally. I am doing a few lessons to complete the circles each time on Duolingo, and I spend about 30 minutes a night. My goal is to finish Duolingo has on mandarin, and then transition onto something else. in your video, you indicated that there is no way to write mandarin on Duolingo, But as of presently, you actually can do some writing on Duolingo, and there is an extensive library. It shows you how to write and read characters (and you trace them and draw them on your own too), but as of yet, it does not seem like it is part of the lessons that I am on. Hope it’s been going well for you! 👏

Hi nice to meet you I’m trying to learn mandarin what’s your advice to a English person using Duolingo what’s to learn more feels I don’t get enough out of it the hearts restrict me any advice love to chat honestly about this
I liked your accent and i wonder if you have time to see how i speak
If you are a speaker of any language other than English, you are doing the old course. Still in the middle of it, just changed the language of the app, and the option of new and old appeared. The same lessons I completed in Spanish appeared as such in the old path in English.
Good advice.
My problem is not about remember the characters, it's all about recognizing and identifying the characters.
Read more lol
Not being facetious, but just read more. I don't speak chinese but I do speak Japanese and I just had to grind reading. It worked
Hello thank you for your tips..I've got a question..without pinyin how can you know the tone of the character? Thanks again.
The tones just have to be memorized. I’d suggest saying the word out loud with the correct tone while you’re practicing and then it just starts to sound right to your ears.
The "old school" flash cards work for me because writing them down on the card helps me to practice my writing and I actually get the chance to read what I'm writing. So, for me the "old school" cards work.....
For anyone who has finished the app, After which lesson are the HSK checkpoints? Like after the taste lesson it says you have achieved hsk 1, where does it say hsk 2 and hsk 3 etc
For on the fly 'passive' reading you can also try out watching Chinese short form dramas. Many are available here on RUclips with the Mandarin subtitles hardwired to the video, with English subtitles available though your settings. This has several advantages: built-in native speakers in the audio, real-world contexts for the vocabulary and a highly repetitive version format which is likely to employ many of the same words and structure. This is a supplement, but once you are past the first phase of vocabulary acquisition it's a useful addition to the study toolkit.
I found calligraphy so difficult and perhaps was not prepared to spend the time on it . The Maobi has a mind of its own and once it completely threw itself across the room as I tried to write a character , so I now just stick to writing with a ball point pen "Yuan zhu bi ", You have much better control than I ever will have congratulations .🙂
Well done for completing the first textbook ! I've been studying Chinese for some years now and have been studying from Elementary Chinese Reader and now I'm retired intend to try to study all of the books as I have a lot of time now 🙂I did like the piece you had written in Han zi at 3:08 and was able to read and thought the red highlights of the words was very helpful you have clearly learnt a good deal congratulations . For example the first sentence says "I have studied Chinese language for two years ", "le" makes it in the past tense or means you have completed the action . Second sentence reads "2020 year 10th month 18th day ", I must have learnt to read more than I realised . Thanks for the opportunity to practice translating this . Best wishes from England .
Chinese course of duolingo is mandarin? In duolingo don't say if it's mandarin, cantones, wu...
This was a super helpful video and I'm learning a lot from the comments. I'm looking to learn Mandarin but I'm not entirely sure what its utility will be in my life yet. Duolingo is pretty low commitment which suits me at the moment (I'm also using it to learn French and Russian.) Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Is the chinese on duoling same as mandrain ?
Yes, it’s Mandarin. I don’t believe they have Cantonese available.
2 years since u uploaded this and they’ve added the writing practice which is great I really enjoy it. I haven’t checked if they have the stories but that’d be awesome
