Playing multiple trick taking games in a single game is such a wild concept and I'm sure veteran tricker takers are going to love this setup! 🤯😲

Interesting! Not sure how exciting the card crafting would be for me personally, looks like it might be a little gimmicky. But that's obviously without having played the game though. Do you feel like the card crafting adds enough to elevate it from a regular climbing/shedding game? 🤔 I do think the card claim is a cool twist that can really only work with this specific component mechanism. Looking forward to trying it out! 🙂 As a side question, what size are the cards? I ask because of how much extra room you have vertically in your sleeves 👀

What a coincidence. Just the other day we played Custom Heroes after not playing it for like 4+ years. It’s still a fun little game, even though the anime art style does nothing for us. Every single time we add a modification to a card we would proclaim dramatically “I’m making a custom hero” and then laugh like dorks. But you’ve definitely piqued my interest in Ruins. I love to see all of the changes. The art style and theme, the removal of the betting modifications and trump modifications, they made games more swingy, and the removal of the useless power that made the hand go down numbers instead of up. Public modification market instead of random variance draws. Being able to hold onto that very powerful card you made with the “dibs” modification (that’s my official name for it). I also like how you have a decision at the start of a round, gives me Scout vibes, but I’m wondering how much of a hassle it is to turn a day card with 3/4 modifications into a night card before a round starts. I know playing Custom Heroes, making a modification was always easy as just sliding a card in, never out, and then after the game is over, everyone helps to clean up and remove modifications. But anyways thanks for selling me in on going all-in on yet another AllPlay kickstarter.

Hi, Taylor. Thanks again for another awesome video. I have been eyeing Ruins, but I am concerned about the sleeves. How do you feel they will hold up with all the adding and removing cards from them constantly?

A little confused. What's the point of the trick taking? You kept just putting the cards to the side. Is this meant to be a How to Play or just an overview?

I’m a huge fan of custom heroes. I don’t see Ruins as a replacement. I will keep both.

Custom Heroes also have a rule to end the game, but at the end of the 6th round, and if there is a tie, tied players play a final round, but Custom Heroes is still probably longer than Ruins. I understand that the game should take a while because the idea is to have more and more modified cards, but 6-7 rounds is too long for my taste, but I don't know about 4 rounds on Ruins... It's hard.. Maybe playing Custom Heroes at 3 the game will take less but you bet points and lose them, so it can still have 6 rounds, but less rounds = less crafting. I have mixed feelings about Custom Heroes. I like some of it, but not the game length and the skipping, but the crafting system is soooo good and I really bought because of the art in the first place kkkkk. About Ruins, I like that it streamlined the game, the length and the market system, but after watching the review, I also have mixed feelings about it. After playing more than 250 trick-taking/climbing/shedding games, some of those games you really need to play the feel the flow of the game, and I think this is one of those.

Incredibly thematic dodgeball moves! :D Dunno if raccoons throw trash at each other (but very funny mental picture). I'm usually not the biggest fan of must-not-follow because of the sudden end when someone is out of a suit, it comes out of nowhere. It can also be deflating to be dealt a hand that's mostly one suit and feel like you've lost before even starting. In must-follow games you at least have the escape valve of playing off suit. But here with the bench mechanism it seems like there's mitigation, which is cool! And I imagine it makes for a much more nail-biting endgame than just counting up points :)

Having played a ton of coiffeur jass as a kid, I applaud the changes loudly. In my experience, 2 teams of two or 2 teams of three were the best variants, I'd like to try 3 teams of two. The variant for counting points up to 100 also makes me curious, I like that it's cleaner than the original 157 pts. And of course, the barrel bet is the biggest improvement! I'll definitely email you to see if there's any possibility of sending it to Switzerland, it would be nice for it to come and visit its grandfather's country 😂.

My understanding is that for 2 players, the 'standard' preparation phase is replaced by the rules on page 10 of the rule book, meaning that players do not discard 1 card each.
