One game I'm very excited for is The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy. By the creators of Danganronpa and Zero Escape. Many people don't seem to realize that this game is an RPG. Has strategy like combat with a grid. As a huge fan of DR and Zero Escape, I already know this story is gonna blow me away. Also curious to see how they balance the school life segments and RPG elements.

my top two are Guardians of Azuma - haven't played very much Rune Factory but it just looks so beautiful and enjoyable - and the unmentioned Hundred Line Last Defense Academy! I dunno how gameplay will shake out for the latter but I know the story and general wackiness will keep me entertained.

Trails through Daybreak. Battle system and action mixed turn based done before Metaphor and better imo. However I think Metaphor is a better overall game

Love the list! Lots of games on here I’ve loved or can’t wait to play! Dragon Quest V was the game that got me into the genre a few years ago, and since then, I’ve played just about every entry. I heard they were remaking 1-3, so I’ve been holding off, and now I can’t wait to fill in that gap!

I would love to try dragon quest since you said it’s a good modern rpg.

I love Dragon Quest 11, it's my favorite of the series. I want to try Persona 5 Royal. I loved Octopath traveler 2, it's very re-playable. The Fire Emblem games are my favorite series, going back to my Gameboy Advance, I own own seven games.

Dragon Quest XI is my favorite RPG of all time.

Great games; many of them were also my most highly anticipated games that I enjoyed playing (and continue to play). Some other amazing JRPGs that came out in 2024 that I enjoyed (and recommend) are: 1. Granblu Fantasy Re: Link--first announced back in 2017 and finally released the day before Persona 3 Reload. Updates and new content are frequently added and the best part is: it's all FREE. One of my all time favorites with great story, good mechanics, and everything else. 2. Ys X Nordics--Falcom's new game featuring adventurer Adol Christian. Each entry in Ys is a standalone story (like FF games) so you don't need to start from the first entry to follow events of Nordics. Speaking for myself, I first got into series with Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana and greatly enjoyed it. Monstrum Nox (Ys 9) was even better and Nordics had some more interesting and original ideas that made the game very addictive.

FFX is awesome, and Rikku is one of the best characters ever...... learn to use her, lol 😆

as someone who’s first persona game was P3R, i’d love to play a persona 4 remake, the only thing keeping me from playing it is how bad it looks visually compared to p3r and p5r. i just bought persona 5 since i never got to play it when it was originally on gamepass and im loving it so far. i used to play a game called blazblue tag battle and ive always thought the persona 4 characters looked so cool but i still don’t know if id be able to immerse myself in the P4 world just bc of how bad it looks visually imo. but ill still give it a try since i got persona 3 portable and p4g along with p5r on sale

I Love Atlus and Metaphor ReFantazio and Persona 3 Reload; These Games are both MasterPieces and are in my Top 10 VideoGames of All Time

Wow! Never seen your channel before but I definitely agree with your taste in JRPG's (Trails to Azure is so special to me). Recently got the OLED and wanted to get some JRPG's loaded while traveling. Honestly never played a FF except 14, so I might give 10 a try, as well giving the Atelier series a go!

Metaphor is one of the greatest games i have ever played. I’m just blown away by how they managed to take everything good about Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, and combine them into the perfect JRPG.

I loved this video, especially since I have been deciding on which JRPG I should play next. Since I don't have as much time as I used to, I'm pretty selective about what I play now. Your video helped me decide Unicorn Overlord will be at the top of my list. I'm a huge tactical game fan! Great work on putting this together. Ah! And one more thing: please consider me in the giveaway! I don't expect to win, but Dragon Quest III is something I have been watching all year long. I'm happy it's finally here. And just when I thought my list of games I need to play couldn't get any longer, I see this video. Thanks for making such a good list... Sigh. LOL. I haven't heard anyone talk about Romancing Saga 2 either. So this was pretty cool to listen to. With full disclosure, Dragon Quest III looks so aesthetically pleasing to me. After playing Triangle Strategy, I've been hooked on the art style. More than that, the DQ games are so beloved too. I want to learn why that is the case. I hope I can play it sometime soon. I'm playing through Metaphor: ReFantazio right now, and I agree. It's such an incredible story to play through. I haven't been this engrossed by a game in so long. Great video. You earned my subscription. Thank you for the chance to play Dragon Quest III Remake too! I wanted to try the original, but I was worried it would feel dated. Seeing the art revamped with tons of quality of life upgrades in the remake makes me want to jump into it. I think it'd look great on the go with a Steam Deck.

Seeing Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth on this list is so cathartic. I began playing the Yakuza games this year, because I wanted to try Infinite Wealth... And I can't believe I didn't try them sooner. It's so much to get through, but the newest game deserves all its acclaim. I would've put it a little higher, but I'm biased now. Lol. I'd love the chance to play Dragon Quest III Remake! Dragon Quest VII was my first JRPG experience ever, and I've been a fan of the genre since. Being able to be a kid again and to revisit this series would be amazing.

This is such a good list. Seeing that you ranked Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth so high on it, I can't wait for it to come to Steam now. I never got to play it yet, since I don't own a PlayStation 5. Dragon Quest III's art style is so charming to me! Plus, I hear its story is one to remember, according to all my friends. I hope I get to play it sometime soon. It's at the top of my wish list. I hope whomever you choose loves it!

ATLUS is really winning this year with all of its releases. SMT V: Vengeance, Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor: ReFantazio... With a lineup like that, JRPG fans are eating well! Still, with so many games out this year, this list is helpful for tracking anything we missed. Thanks! Also, I've been looking forward to DQIII's HD-2D release since they announced it. As a lifelong Toriyama fan, I can't wait to jump into the world of Dragon Quest again whenever I have the chance. Thanks for making a community member's holiday!

This was a nice year for rpgs, let's hope we can get more bangers in the future. I stumbled randomly on this video so I'll give the giveaway a shot. I'll like to play Dragon Quest 3 because of how much I liked 11, a good friend of mine recommended the game on a regular basis and I understood once I got the chance to play it. Good video my man, I would love to win this giveaway for DQ3 HD 2D remake because I myself am a fan of this series and love the games to death, having played (snes)dq3 along with 4-11(11 being my absolute favorite having played it in 2021 which got me into the series and replaying it 2 years later), and I love jrpgs in general.
