HOW TO BUILD A STRONG BACK | Strongman Back Workout
Hi Toby.
Hello mate
Good work, those accesories looked heavy!
They are brutal
PB for Will, CNS Dump for Toby!.
Training before lunch is not the one 😂
What is ur bodyweight
125kg
Good one my mate Toby the size which mentioned about Ur elbow 7mm sleeves xL do they fit you easily measured my bicep at 18.4 ordered imported one size bigger to 3XL as 2xL were out of stock hope it would be good too 👊👊✅💥
I have actually just ordered a new set of 2XL because mine were a bit tight so probably will be alright
@@TobyLifely right on my friend good move 👊👊🏋🏼♀️💥✅
Hey man, how are you lifting now in this exercise. I recently started this movement
I have done 140kg per hand as my best
@@TobyLifely that's a huge growth. I'm also working on the same.
How’s the bar?
Great - pulled 285kg on it the other day, have had no issues
@@TobyLifely thanks. still look black?
Yep!
@@TobyLifely ah damn I'll be buying that next 😂
Come on Will 600!
He's been so close for so long
8th times the charm
@@biglifers lucky number 8
Nice work, well done both. Loved the grind for the DL!
Cheers mate
Great stuff.. 💪🏻. 300kg by year end ? Hes got 275kg for sure
That's the plan! We will see if I make it
Great Video Mate 🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Cheers mate
Well done both, that log press PB was great, worth the struggle!
Cheers mate! Had to work for it haha
Great video man! I just recently got the cerberus triple ply elbow sleeves and i saw your review of it. I like them much more than sbd triple ply has that extra pop from the chest!💪🔥
Good stuff man, glad you enjoyed
How is the decline function? Does it not cause damage to the back of the pad due to touching the hooks?
It works well enough, no damage as far as I can tell
@@TobyLifely thanks. I was stuck between the 150 and 250 but think after seeing your review the 150 would be fine, do you ever feel like you wished you’d bought the 250 model? Thanks
Nope the 150 has been brilliant for everything I have needed so far
@@TobyLifely thanks. That cements it for me I'll buy one.
Let them know I sent ya!
270 looked so easy, great control not going for a 3rd rep just to get a rep pb
Bigger things in the pipeline, gotta stay disciplined!
Nice work, looks like you are nearly there!
Getting there mate
Great video, awesome insight into your strength sessions 💪
Cheers! Many more to come 💪
Good stuff, keep it up brother! Algorithm finally suggested a good video
I'm glad the algorithm brought you here! Hope you stick around
Try adding in some dead hangs on the pullup bar for grip
I used to do deadhangs every single morning - fantastic exercise, I still do them, more for a stretch than anything in the mornings alongside my cardio
Look at you getting sent product for review! Moving on up in the world. Full deadlift jacks are amazing but I find single deadlift jacks are worth it for home gyms, just so much easier to store. A little more of a pain to jack up each side individually but can even work on elevated deadlifts if your block is big enough
Yeah definitely mate single jacks are great if you don't have the space
Until I get one I use a 2 1/2 lb plate and roll each side of the bar onto the plate. Gives just enough space to slide plates on without getting caught on the ground
Yeah I used to do that as well but as it gets heavier it becomes more of a pain - the jack has been phenomenal
Nice one. Maybe add grip into other videos. Having fenced epee with a French grip for a number of years my right hand is way better than my left. I guess I should work on evening them up!
I definitely will be adding grip into my other videos as I do it as part of those sessions!
I love the way you grip
😈😈
Damn, Mirafit should sponsor you.
Haha hopefully one day
I like the out of breath poster, it also goes for if you are f ing old.
Hahaha
@@TobyLifely youtube took your reply and had under it Translate to English. I thought it was English but when I clicked to translate it was just haha.
Love your videos btw. It's good to put a face and voice to the online chats.
Thanks mate
Looking good, but I could say, get better pads or a slower drop due to the 110 looked like it was coming for your chin on the right side. Saying this, Loz will probably tell me to shut up, you are doing great.
Yeah the issue there is I have just one Cerberus drop pad - so if it drop it wonky it bounces badly - need a second
That log looked easy, well done! I think farmers carry/frame might be a good all round event to train for?
Thanks mate! Agreed - my farmers handles are crap so that's why I don't use it more - they're on my list to upgrade asap and then hopefully I'll be inclined to do them
If I could only do 1 strongman movement it would be between something explosive like sandbag to shoulder/sandbag throw or farmers carry since they’re easily adjustable.
Great shouts - my farmers handles are rough so I don't do them as often as I should, need some better ones
Watching from the US and absolutely loving what you're saying. Keep up the great work!
Cheers mate!
Thanks Toby. When I was still at work , a while ago, I used to bike to and from, sometimes walk one way ride back, and now and again run. It was only 4:5 miles each way and I worked shifts. On earlies 6 am start I tended to bike in. Getting exercise done in this way meant I did not need motivation as it was just part of my work routine. My main “sport” was walking so if I had a long walk 50 mile + in the offing I would switch to fast walking to get to and from work
That's a really good point Andrew - one I should've brought up in the video, that if you can switch a commute you'd do anyway with a walk or cycle then that's a great way to get it in, thanks for the comment
My go to steady state is a spin bike, easy to do and watch RUclips or whatever you wanna do. When I do more high intensity interval stuff I’ve been doing more KB swings as I feel my posterior chain is lacking anyways. But still do rower, airbike or just jump rope for that too.
Yeah spin bike is great - with my knee pain the last year it's been hurting that so haven't been doing it
nice maiden the trooper flag \m/
It's good right!
Good video mate👏. I 100% agree with the yoke being in S tier. Also happy with where you put the Duck walk even though I know you love it 🤯🤣.
Deep down we know duck walk is S tier 😂
@@TobyLifely 🤣🤣
Hi Toby and Will
Hello mate
love your beard bro, keep going!!!
Hahaha cheers
Good work, solid all round!
Cheers mate - all building towards some big pulls
Well done Will!
He's getting strong now! Just gotta convince him to do some strongman
Nice job!
Thanks mate!
Just bought one of these, absolutely love it even though I’ve only used it yesterday for the first time , great review
Thanks, and yeah it's a great bit of kit, still use it often and I've had it for years now
What is your grip width for standing strict press? Where are your pinky’s relative to the rings on the bar?
For me what works best is about a thumbs length from where the knurling ends - means my Pinkies are about an inch inside of the rings. But the main thing to focus on is to make sure your forearms are 90⁰ to the bar and not angled in or outwards massively
Lovely video! I like your vibe 🙏🏼
Appreciate it mate
This is the definitive strongman tier list. I’d give this video a 500 centillion out of 10. But you should have added the CAR PULL MARATHON 😎
Haha I'm glad you agree with my ranking!
I remember Adrian Smith doing book rips as a demonstration of strongman at a show in Banbury. I did manage to rip 2 but was nowhere near as quick as him.
It's not something I've tried but I want to! Definitely a great show of strength
Man v man tends to cause unnecessary injuries and a bit of a specialist wins event.
Spot on
I’m disappointed that the walking stones didn’t get their own bespoke bottom of the barrel tier 😅 very impressive as its own feat, but god I roll my eyes when it comes up in every single big comp lately!
Couldn't agree more mate love it as a strength feat but god does it make for boring competition!
I did the Cerberus Dinnies with plates in my last comp. It was the surprise event in the end. Was much more fun than I had expected before.
@@CK-iy3hx perhaps it makes for a more exciting event to do than to watch!
@@Paul_Stowell Definetely! And the pain is real 😩 🤣🤣🤣
I agree I bet it's much better to do than to watch
Not sure where you're getting your idea of "science-based training", most powerlifters who are obsessed with the strength science do a heavy single of pretty much every main exercise followed by decently heavy back off sets, and then take their hypertrophy work near failure. I think the most important thing we need to learn from science is that training your central nervous system is an entirely different thing from growing your muscles, if you hammer away at triples on every exercise you're not going to make as much progress as someone who does enough heavy work but keeps growing their musculature over time with higher volume sets. However the science also shows that people who are enjoying their training and believing that they're they're making progress make good progress
Absolutely agree - the "science based" training I was using as an example here was more focused around people overcomplicating their training doing super specific exercises in a super specific way to get the "best" feel from them. I completely agree that good programming and most strength programs are backed by the science
@@TobyLifely yeah I mean I think there's science and then there are different people interpreting how to apply that science and training, I would never train like Mike Israetel says to that obsession with technique stuff seems really ineffective. BUT I follow the Data Driven Strength people and David Woolson pretty closely, they put out information about powerlifting programming mostly informed by the current science and I think a lot of their training principles can be super super helpful and strongman. In Strongman communities online and people I've talked to at competitions it seems like their knowledge of how to get stronger is very caveman mode and I think incorporating some more science like the powerlifters do could help all of us
Yeah I tend to agree mate - it can be very beneficial especially when peaking for a max lift (much like in powerlifting) - I think where it falls flat for strongman specially is that it's very easy to get caught up on the data and making sure everything is perfect, which it is in powerlifting everything is calibrated and very specific rules so it's easier to apply the science to it. You never know the conditions you'll face in strongman so there is a lot of benefit to just attacking everything and forgetting the science because it teaches you to apply yourself no matter the circumstances. But I do absolutely agree that applying the scienced based principles you bring up to a strongman peaking for a max deadlift for example, would be hugely beneficial
Mom. Look. They are talking about me.
Mom Look! A strongman community celeb is in my comments! (Love your content dude keep it up)
Cheers. Consistent application of a progressive programme is the key. So your main thrust is most important, what interests you and keeps you motivated to keep coming back is what matters. That triple looked smooth, well done!
Spot on mate - come in and lift heavier or one more rep than you did last time on at least one exercise and that's how we keep moving. Cheers!
