      Hi there! Well if you can get it for under $300 then I think its a great card It was at $269 in my link from Amazon, I'm not sure if its still on sale. It has the 16gb of vram and plays really nice at 1440p. If 1080p is your res then this will stomp all over that res. But tis is a big card so check the dimensions to make sure your case will fit it. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.

    • @RememberThisTech
      @RememberThisTech 4 дня назад

      Awesome! TY. Well let me know how it goes, Repaste the cpu/gpu while it's open as it's super easy to do. Careful of the GPU heatsink fans though as they are super sharp and I cut my finger to the bone... And if you don't fix your you can probably sell it. I've got an aftermarket Power supply in my and it's not holding up well and even the original power supplies for these go for a pretty penny.

      @@barrycoveney I haven't had the change to fully test this theory but it might be possible to run a full size graphics card through a m.2 slot. Though running a separate power supply with a big graphics car kind of defeats the purpose of this design lol but would be fun to try. Perhaps you can get better cooling for the onboard GPU and oc it to squeeze a few more fps. Cross fingers that your p.s will be ok.. Let me know what you do.

    Very true about resizable bar, but you can enable it with a utility on the net for older CPUs. I tested it with my X99 motherboard and GPUZ does say resizable bar enabled. You first must enable 4g Decoding before running the utility and if you don't have that option then you must mod your bios and flash it. Works like a charm for enabling bar on the older cheap Xeon builds. The A380 has one notable advantage over any other GPU and it's the AV1 encoding. It is fast and produces smaller file sizes with the same quality than say a 4000 series Nvidia GPU. Can't really beat the A310 A380 for a JellyFin or Plex server and AV1 is all I use anymore. I've seen some A380 cards that do have an 8 pin connector, but the GPU itself doesn't need it unless you boost the power delivery within the Arc manager. Those GPUs I've heard can be used with one or without and can run at a higher clock if the 8 pin is connected. I just wish more devices like SOC boards jumped on board and at least included AV1 hardware decoding since it's royalty free, far superior to even HEVC, but not an issue for me as my devices either can decode them via hardware or software without frame drops, whew. Oh well, if you can't get AV1 on everything then that's where the awesome Xe Media Engine kicks in for transcoding to your older client that can't play AV1 smoothly. AV1 for video archives is a no brainer in my opinion as even if transcoding to H264 is needed then it still looks awesome. Thanks for another good vid! You really have hooked this viewer, so I'll be always looking for your next videos. I believe this video helps big time since it's the cheapest A380 option now for many and some may want to confirm they can use it in a NON SFF case which you proved is possible with the included bracket. You covered it all IMO, good work.

      @dont99know Hi there! Tyvm! What do you use for hosting your jellyfin bare metal or proxmox or? Your right I saw the way you can use the nod to enable resistable bar on older systems I just haven't had the time or courage to try it yet lol. Your also eight that these arc cards are beasts in transcoding/streaming etc. and also for exporting videos . The av1 is superior. I'm thinking of doing a contracting video on the a380 in exporting times and sizes for 4k premire pro exporting. Something like that. Thanks again I appreciate it!!

    You should use a 3060/1080/4070/3070 or some other GPU with 16 PCI-E lanes so it won't be so limited by the PCI-E 2.0 Also AMD GPU's have less driver overhead, so they'll run games better with a very limited CPU.

    Is High Sierra secure enough for modern computing? My 2009 is running Ventura. I tried Sonoma on it but that was way too slow, and Ventura is pretty bad also. I think Monterey might be the sweet spot, which was the first one I tried with OCLP and with a ram upgrade it should continue to fulfill its role as a test and maintenance practice machine.

      @RememberThisTech 12 дней назад

      Hi and welcome to the channel. I'd say no. macOS High Sierra is no longer receiving official security updates from Apple (the latest update being released in 2019). If you can use Monterey than use that because it will still get updates through Nov 30th 24. Have you upgraded to and ssd in it? I keep a few Macs with diff OS on them for testing and creating boot disks etc. But dont go on the web with them if at all. I hate to say this but you could also install Linux mint or Ubuntu and they might run a bit better or Libuntu which is lighter weight. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.

      The 8867 will take the lead in some app a and games that can utilize more cpus or threads. The 1660 might have an edge over the 2620 do to it's higher clocks.

  • @dont99know
    @dont99know 18 дней назад

    Nice video and good budget build indeed. I have a similar build but with a E5-2690 V4 since it is a 14 core with almost double the multi thread speed and the single thread speed is almost the same. It was $28, so it's around the same price generally. It can boost to 3.5ghz easily with proper cooling and I have the same cooler which definitely does the job well. It's a great cooler and if you want then you can also add another fan on the cheap. Just make sure to get one with the proper bracket for mounting or make one with some stiff wire. I have tried a 2640 V3 too and it's not that bad considering it was $9, but V4 CPUs are a good amount faster and highly recommended over V3 Haswell chips. I love having the 14 cores, 28 threads since most games utilize multiple processes and should help with more demanding games while background processes are running, but the 8 core is definitely enough for gaming. Both the 1660 V4 and 2690 V4 are great options for a budget build and just ask yourself if you want the huge multi thread boost from the 14 cores or not. Back in the days the 2690 V4 was almost double the price of the 1660 V4 but now are similar when purchased used, woot woot. For me it's definitely been worth it and the lower clock speed won't be noticed. The 2690 V4 is 5w TDP lower than the 1660 V4 140w which is nice. I'm enjoying the 2011 build and it pairs great with both a 5600 XT or a 1080 Ti all the way up to a 4070 if you want. PCIe 4 isn't an issue and bottlenecking is an overrated concern since there will always be a bottleneck to a certain degree but in games it will almost always be the GPU. Those calc websites are wrong and absolute junk making money off new CPU purchases from ads. So for those who would like to have a lot of cores but don't want to spend $100+ for the 20+ core Xeon, I can easily recommend the 14 core 2690 V4 which surprisingly doesn't have a huge performance gap from the 24 core Xeon. I think it's way too much $$ and doesn't have as good of a performance to cost ratio like the E5-1660 V4 8 core / E5-2690 V4 14 core so I avoided it for now. Have fun everyone and thanks for the video 👍

    • @RememberThisTech
      @RememberThisTech 21 день назад

      Hi there and welcome to the channel! Good question. First of all make sure your motherboard's bios revision can support the 1700x if not you will have to upgrade it from the vendor prior to doing so. Second, it's more that Windows 11 wont support the 1700x cpu. Before the last windows 11 patch or tweak you could run a bypass and install windows 11 and it would run fine. Now windows mostly removed the ability to bypass the TPM check etc. so even if you installed 11 using the bypass it wouldn't let you update security fixes etc. Note, What's your current motherboard? Model and maker? It could be that your motherboard could support a Ryzen 3600x and that supports windows 11 and would give you slightly higher clock speeds or maybe a 3700x cpu? And the Ryzen 7 2700X was supported as well. BUT they are enforcing that your Motherboard has a tpm 2.0 module and support now as well... so You will need to see if your motherboard supports that or has it. One of the cheapest cpu and mobo combos to upgrade to support windows 11 I've found is here amzn.to/3AuggEj a better cpu here amzn.to/3yT7106 let me know what motherboard you have and what route you go. sorry for the long answer but it's better to know more than less and buy a cpu thats not supported and not be able to use it.
